Ouch, that's even more messed up than I had assumed. I just did a quick check on Steam's Community page, and the Dev's for the game have posted an info questionnaire there to get data from users having problems so they can isolate the cause(s) and get the game up and running for you. I'm sure the official game page at the Dev's site will have one as well in their game forums.
And on the CoH side of things, I'm waiting patiently for the negotiations with NCSoft to conclude (hopefully on a positive note), so we can all get back to the old neighborhood. In the meantime, I've tried out Valiance Online this week after the open Alpha test was announced. I showed it to a RL friend of mine who also played CoH in the past, and he remarked on how similarly VO's initial area represented Atlas Park's layout. Yep, there's the AE Building, Vanguard Building, Hospital, and even the cross-town tunnel... and look, goons to beat on hiding under the overpasses! Grin!!!
I dunno if you can share (there might be privacy rules with the alpha and whatnot), but how does it play overall? Did you get to try out any of the powersets, or was it more of a "wander around and see what's up?" I'm very curious about how put together it is right now, and at the moment I'm not sure I can access the alpha myself, haha.
Didn't have to sign an NDA in blood or anything... so I assume they want us talking about their successor game.
Right now they're testing basic character types, and I chose a controller type with Ice and Healing powers... you gain XP while using the powers, not just by taking down the Hellion-class enemies. I had fun with it, and within a couple of hours of gameplay had 7 powers in each powerset to try out... and there may be more, just haven't gotten to em yet. Oh, yeah and you can fly from level 1 as well.
Give it a try, you may start having some flashbacks...
Here's the pre-alpha info page:

you gain XP while using the powers, not just by taking down the Hellion-class enemies.
Can you explain this in more detail, please?
While you're using your powers in combat against the targets, you gain XP... when you reach a certain XP level, you gain access to a new power automatically. The target kills count for mission completion, but I didn't notice any XP for taking them down yet. Of course, I assume all of this is the pre-alpha setup, and not the final game configuration.

Enjoyed the Character Creator tool :) entered the game, ran around a bit, tried the /dance emote, and chatted in global. Good fun!!
Would love to join you in playing around in Valiance. But, I've got an issue that nobody seems to be addressing. I've posted about it multiple times both here and at the Valiance site, and not received one helpful reply.
...
If the game is this fun in Alpha, I cant wait till they get to Beta. Hey got a ways to go, but this game is comming along smoothly
Just wanted to say great game so far guys! I've had fun messing around in the city and can see real potential in this game. Keep up the awesome work! 8)
BTW, the snow/blizzard was a nice touch for winter!
Thanks glad you are liking it and we will keep working at it... no sleep til Brooklyn! Er, I mean, no sleep til release (lol).
I found that presing R or F while moving did cause rise and fall during forward or backward motion.

(no offense to those guys, but it's been 2 years now, come on...).Just want to point out that the engine for VO has been in development for seven-ish years so keep that in perspective.
Oh the testing area is nothing compared to the concept stuff they've posted. They were nice enough to actually design an initial testing area that reminds us all of "home" I can't wait to see the new map(s) implemented in the future. Really cool looking stuff!
Also really looking forward to the new patch coming up here possibly tonight, "Soon" at the latest ;) - new models, more stuff to punch, and other cool stuff. Character wipe and start over with moar stuff time! WOO!
I am using an old zip for the program...is there a newer version? Is it possible to post a direct link to the latest version? Thank you! (I do have a forum account)
I am quite stunned by the work that's been done. Frankly, I'm far more excited by seeing actual in-engine stuff rather than the hopes and prayers of City of Titans (no offense to those guys, but it's been 2 years now, come on...).
I downloaded the launcher a couple of days ago, and have been trying to get it going. It starts updating, but, at about 32% of the way done, I get this message where the red progress bar was:
Checksum invalid for http://192.187.108.146/xampp/content/Data/LauncherPayloads/WindowsPlayer/Valiance_Launcher_32bit_Data/sharedassets0.assets.0012.dat.
Is this being worked on? I was last in before it went open pre-alpha, and I'd reeeealy like to see it again.
I was on last night. They have yet another new landing zone and enemies are back.
The server data was apparently wiped as I had to re-register.
This was posted on Twitter on 28 Apr 2015:
"Server should be back up next week with updates! More information and patch notes soon. Thanks for your patience!"
Thanks. I'm not a twit (twitterer? tweeter? - I'm not on Twitter), so I didn't get the message.
lol your graphics make mine look slow. great job.
seriously the scenery models looks very CoHey.
one question I may ask is why the curved warwalls?
It's looking beautiful.

Some time after I posted this, I found that my laptop seemed to be able to download the updates okay (more or less), while my desktop computer had the above problem. So, I learned to let my laptop download it, and I copied the folder to the desktop. But now, neither computer will cooperate.
Looks cool. Wondering what exactly mimetic weaponry could possibly mean?
The images I've seen of the characters, the legs are all impossibly long. For instance, the example dude from the previous post has legs that are nearly 1.5x the length of his torso (including head). That's so outside the scope of human growth....
Exaggerated/distorted physiques are part and parcel of super heroes/villains, at least that's what the great Samuel L Jackson said in the movie Unbreakable...?Just because it's common doesn't mean it's good (personal opinion). All of my regular characters in City were at minimum leg length and 1/2 to 3/4 "weight" - aka believable human physique. (I had several that didn't fit "believable", but it was on purpose and not just a 'style' choice).
Icons for our melee power sets... in Technicolor! :D
Just realized VO was recently active. Any eta on server-up-edness?
Two-and-a-half months with no deliverable: have you guys created a tear in the agile-space-time continuum? ;D
Agreed that it would be bad if you couldn't have a normal looking human as a superhero/villain! I think it should be the default in character creation.
...the MINIMUM cup size was like a C, and the maximum was just porn-star ridiculous...Much agreed.
Just so long as we can make fatties. That was sorely missing in CoX ;DAlso much agreed.
Funny you should ask [about having created a tear in the agile-space-time continuum]...So that's why my user stories have been so achy! I've alerted my boss about the catastrophe, and explained that it will delay some of my work.
The new launcher which solves problems some people were having installing/running the game, is now available!
http://valianceonline.com/play
A browse box on the installer option page would be really nice.
Are you, or will you be, working on a pre-made CoH-type keymapping layout that we can select? It'd be REALLY nice.
Will followup on your questions shortly, but first...
Thanks to an unannounced server migration by our hosting company, the game server is down. We will update with more information when we have it. :gonk:
This would be awesome. I liked being able to use arrow keys for direction if I chose
All current and most of the previous mmos including coh have this functionality so it wouldn't make sense for them not to have this as an option. In fact you can completely bind every movement and ability to whatever keys you want in most cases even print screen (although I'm not going to recommend doing that for obvious reasons). And wow... you actually want to use arrow keys to look around?I prefer arrow keys too
Congrats on getting that new server up and running. :)
Massively Overpowered (http://massivelyop.com/2016/01/03/valiance-online-tests-new-client-to-server-architecture-previews-new-website/) provided a link to the preview of Valiance Online's new website (http://newvaliance.shogn.net/). It looks great--congratulations!
I wanted to let you know that I tried out your pre-alpha on my trusty, aged laptop and was definitely impressed at what you guys have gotten together, as well as how well the client ran on said laptop. It's an old ASUS lappy from 2008 with a Geforce GTX 260M graphics card and a Core 2 Duo 2.53 Ghz processor, and I was getting 25-30 FPS in 1440x900 full screen with minimum graphics options enabled. So, kudos! I'm looking forward to where your project goes from here.
Not Bad!
It delivers that 'flying fix' that so many of us need.
I've been able to get in on my last two attempts.
I'd forgotten how time consuming it can be to run back to a trainer to get a new power.
I tried it this morning, and how far you've come since then... I didn't have to avoid parts of the map out of fear of falling through the floor and TPing back to a origin point.
Has the site gone down for like weeks now? All I get when trying to start launcher is connection refused. Is this because the launcher has changed and won't update online? Can anyone update me on what is happening? Thanks.
AFAIK, the pre-alpha is done and the servers are shut down until the alpha launches. They've been giving semi-regular updates, but they're all "Alpha will begin soon but we can't give an exact timeframe."
Congratulations on moving to the private alpha stage. :D
You know, someone once told me I was VERY INTERESTING... I hope you don't mean it the way they did! ;)
Thanks for the kind words!
Our "Fearless Leader" has posted an update on our progress...

"But stupid."
And yes, now I feel VERY old :P ;)
Hi. Can you track donations from last 3 years ? Can you even apply rewards to accounts donated in the last week or return emails?
