Well, it's been live for a little while, so no more surprises: on December 31st, 2016, badges arrived in Paragon Chat. And avid badge hunters have been busy filling their badge counts again. This thread is here to help if you're having trouble with a badge that isn't granting for one reason or another.
Some of the below might be met with "I already know how badges work", but it's been over four years since we had badges available to us. A brief reminder on common issues with collecting badges can't hurt. Here's the basics:
- Exploration Badges: If you know the name of the badge you're hunting for, or you're hunting in a zone, please search in Paragonwiki.com (https://paragonwiki.com) first and verify the following:
- The correct loc coordinates are found. (/loc shows the coordinates of your current position. There's a page explaining how this works (https://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Coordinates) if you're new to it.) Be aware that there are a few badges (https://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Badges_known_to_work_in_Paragon_Chat#Modified_Badges) that have been modified from the live game.
- You can see the badge marker in the screen. The marker has a narrow 'pop-up' distance and only shows if you're within 20 feet of the object. If it's one of the handful of badges that has a obscured marker as indicated on the Paragon Wiki page corresponding to the badge name, you can disregard this. (Screen shots posted to the boards are not necessary to prove a badge doesn't work, we'll take your word for it.)
- If you don't see "BADGE EARNED!", check that the badge does not appear already in the Collect menu (Usually "Badges > Most Recent" category shows 50 or so of your most recent ones) OR in the Menu, "Personal Info" window in the Badges tab which will show all of your collected badges. Just mouse over them to see the title on each badge pic.
- Accolade Badges:
- Only accolades tied to badge collection (such as collecting all the Exploration badges in Atlas Park granting the "Atlas Park Tour Guide" badge, for example) should be working. Accolades that grant powers, for example, do not function.
- If hunting for a particular accolade, check the "Badges > Closest to Completion" category in the "Collect" menu. You should see a progress bar and description text identifying the badges you need to find in the list. If you didn't get the accolade and the progress bar on it isn't full, there's your answer.
- Event Badges: The only four badges every player gets have not changed. The 9th-14th anniversary badges should be on all toons, regardless of who they are. Other event badges may or may not appear, but they're not tied to collection activities but participation, you either get them or you don't. (With Toy Collector, if it hasn't appeared after January 5th, then you didn't open 200 presents in city zones during the event. Try again next December.)
- Accomplishment Badges: All seven of these are in Pocket D. Six pertain to Ski Slopes (the three medals for both the Beginner Slope and the Advanced one.) One is found in Pocket D itself by talking to NPCs inside.
At this time the following badge types DO NOT WORK in Paragon Chat: History, Gladiator, Veteran, PVP, Invention, Defeats, Ouroboros, Wentworths, Day Jobs, and Architect Entertainment. Most of these should be self-evident as they're tied to the combat, crafting, and character progression aspects of City of Heroes. Therefore, badges in these categories will not be addressed here. This isn't a wishlist to get other categories of badges (or their associated components) working again, since we already have a wishlist over here (https://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php?topic=11126.0).
Don't just read the Wiki. Edit it. Finally, Paragon Wiki is your friend. Not only can you look up badges on the Wiki from the live game, you can also see a list of Badges known to work in Paragon Chat (https://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Badges_known_to_work_in_Paragon_Chat#Modified_Badges) (extra special thanks to Pengy for the bulk of the Exploration Badge contributions) so if a badge you are looking for isn't there, players have not been able to collect it yet. This page is maintained by the community, so if new badges have appeared recently, it may take a few days or weeks to update it. If you find a new badge and don't see it on the above linked page, feel free to add it in!
