New power: Recall Friend. Somewhat experimental, but seems to be working in limited testing.

OMG!  Best news *ever*!  Taxibots, Unite!

So, started the race but the timer never stopped.  Was that expected? No badge I'm guessing?

Thanks!

How long did you give it? The expert (easy) course times out after 2 minutes, the advanced course times out after 3.
Title: Re: Paragon Chat Patch Notes Discussion
Post by: Korbian on January 18, 2017, 11:41:55 PM
D'oh.  I can confirm that the timer is not running out when it's supposed to.  I had both of them going at once for a minute there.  Expert finally stopped somewhere past ten minutes, and Advanced is still ticking away at over nine.  Which is strange because they seemed normal before.  I'm not sure what I did differently that might have affected them.

"Controlled Falling Practice."  Hah!

Post by: Codewalker on January 19, 2017, 02:22:21 AM
Bah, the zone script was using a static variable to count ticks so that it didn't check the state too often, but the same function was ticking for both instances (each instance using separate data for each course). Because it checked every N ticks and N was divisible by two, in practice only one of the courses was running the cleanup of old races.

Fixed in bugfix release 1.0.12.2.

I do have two questions; Is there any plans to allow Warshades to use Shadow Step and whatever their version of Recall Friend is called? How difficult would that be now that Teleport and Recall Friend are both in Paragon Chat?

FYI: Internal Badge Names for the /set_title_name command is available on the Paragon Wiki under the page Badges known to work in Paragon Chat (https://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Badges_known_to_work_in_Paragon_Chat).  Total credit for the internal badge name contributions goes to Pengy.  Seriously, applause.

That's all.

You need to add an obvious download link to ParagonChatBootstrap.exe somewhere, people coming here from Reddit can't figure out how to actually get the program.

Point them here (https://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php?topic=12479.0), or use chat.cohtitan.com, the forums link will take them to Announcements by default.

I think I found what they talking about. The wiki page was pointing at an old (since removed) URL for 0.9x. I updated it to point at the bootstrap instead.

Should probably also put a download link on https://chat.cohtitan.com (where the button on the main cohtitan page takes you). But we really need somebody willing to do some HTML work on that page and flesh it out. Hit up Sekoia if interested, I think the page is using some system to automatically generate stylesheets and such.

Rule of thumb is that if the 4th number in the version changes (the patch level), it's a minor fix or tweak and nothing to get excited about.

Quick Question:  Is there any way to transfer Candy Canes from one toon to another?

If you can run more than one instance, the easiest trick is to use one toon to purchase Holiday Cheers and then gift them to the toon that needs Candy Canes.  They usually spit out more canes than the 5 it costs to purchase Holiday Cheer, so barring receiving temp powers and junk (which still gives at least one candy cane, I believe) you can conceivably make a profit.

If you can't run more than one instance, I'm sure you could find a willing soul to trade Holiday Cheers with.  I'd be happy to help you out, for instance.  :)

They usually spit out more canes than the 5 it costs to purchase Holiday Cheer, so barring receiving temp powers and junk (which still gives at least one candy cane, I believe) you can conceivably make a profit.

The long-term average candy cane acquisition rate for opening Mystery Gifts (what you get when somebody uses Holiday Cheer on you) is 3 candy canes per box*. That was taken into account when determining the vendor prices.

If you're lucky, you might be able to get ahead in the short term. If you try to turn it into an infinite candy cane machine, you'll find that the house always wins.

Code: [Select]
GiftShop wgBoxGifts[] = {
    { 10, GIFT_JINGLEJET },
    { 20, GIFT_SNOWBALL },
    { 10, GIFT_JUNK },
    { 10, GIFT_BOXMESSAGE },
    { 20, GIFT_CANDYCANEHIGH },
    { 1, GIFT_LKT },
    { 10, GIFT_FRISBEE },
    { 5, GIFT_TOYBAT },
    { 0, GIFT_NONE }
};

* It's 3 per box if you already have all of the various winter event powers. If you don't have them yet, the average candy cane drop rate will be a little lower while those powers are still in the pool. Once you have them, they are ignored, so the drop table looks like this:

Code: [Select]
    { 10, GIFT_JUNK },          // Spawns physics object
    { 10, GIFT_BOXMESSAGE },    // Dialog box, gives 1 candy cane as a consolation prize
    { 20, GIFT_CANDYCANEHIGH }, // 4-7 candy canes

I stand corrected.  However I only had personal experience to base my hypothesis on, and not actual maths.  Darn maths!  They get me every time!

I was just having a lucky night though, and by no means trying to cheat the system.  Christmas will roll around in no time as it is.   I mean, it's already May?  Noooo!  I'm not ready!  :P

Any zones that still spawn presents?
Title: Re: Paragon Chat Patch Notes Discussion
Post by: Tahquitz on May 13, 2017, 01:58:52 AM
You can get them from other players who have charges of Holiday Cheer left.  They hand you a gift box, you open it for a chance at Candy Canes.

Otherwise, next December the event returns.

If you participated in the winter event this past holiday season you probably already have it (and I know you did because we traded lots of presents  ;D ) but newcomers won't be able to get it until December.

Mysterious Disconnection Upon Zoning

I have noticed that occasionally I get a 'Mapserver Disconnected' upon completing a Zone move.
The odd thing is, when I type /xmpp_connect  to try to reconnect, I get 'Unknown Command'

EDIT:
When I log out and come back in, I'm sitting at when I zoned from.
Title: Re: Paragon Chat Patch Notes Discussion
Post by: Codewalker on May 23, 2017, 08:52:10 PM
'Mapserver disconnected' means that the client lost connection to your local Paragon Chat instance, it has nothing to do with XMPP.

It could mean that Paragon Chat crashed, or that your computer is overloaded and the process is taking too long to respond (swapped to disk). But none of the PC-specific commands will work.

Patch Notes - how about putting the current version of Paragon Chat at the top? You can edit the top post, and still create a copy on the bottom of the current version. I don't know that if you're an administrator of the forum if you can create a new post at the top or re-organize the order of the posts.

This would be a help for me to see the current version as soon as I get here - I think others may want this too. However, I'm not concerned about them, it's all about me.

You are just a figment of my imagination.

As it stands you can already access AE and write missions and such.  However, the ability to play or test said missions still depends on combat and mob spawning mechanics that probably won't be possible in an XMPP client.  That being said, codewalker has already worked miracles in creating what we do have, so he'd be the one to have the final word on that.

Though it may be a bit out of date now, you can find a list of stuff he is/was planning to implement eventually here: https://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php?topic=11126.0

Maybe not the best place to ask this but:

I recently reinstalled Windows and Paragon Chat on a new harddrive and my badge collection character from before is no longer in the list of characters. As he had over 400 badges, I'd like to continue using him.  I still have access to the old harddrive.

What files need to be copied from my old harddrive to the new one to get my badge character back?

Thanks!

Title: Re: Paragon Chat Patch Notes Discussion
Post by: Codewalker on October 20, 2017, 04:17:16 PM
On the old hard drive, look under \Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\ParagonChat

Go into the "Database" subfolder. The file you're after is ParagonChat.db. Copy it over to the new computer. Make backups, preferably onto a cloud service like dropbox/onedrive.

If you installed PC somewhere other than the default location, you'll need to search for it. Since it sounds like you're no longer booting off the drive you can't just use the folder button in the login window to find it.

I was only skimming the patch notes. I totes overlooked the tentaport line item. It got me today. I really wish that had been on live. That was so much fun. I mean, imagine a whole group tentaported to different places on the map! How funtastic would that have been?

Guess I better get at it.....
Title: Re: Paragon Chat Patch Notes Discussion
Post by: Codewalker on October 24, 2017, 07:06:19 PM
It started on the 17th. In subsequent years it'll start on Oct 1.

Don't worry though, there will be a 1.0.14.1 patch before the end of the month that extends it Nov 16 for 2017 only, since we'd otherwise lose two weeks. That should give a bit of time for people just hearing about it to give it a try without being rushed.

DYING IS SO COOL!!!

Never thought I would be happy to see the " Go to Hospital " pop up on the screen, lol. Best update yet. If you get any inspirations on other ways we can meet with grisly, gory, horrific, stinging, embarrassing Death, BRING EM ON!

A Few Deadly Spawns here and there peppered around the City would add a great deal of spice to an otherwise Totally safe environment. Half the thrill of COH was getting your butt handed to you by Jack in Irons when you rounded the wrong corner in Croatoa or didn't notice that crowd of Knives of Artemis until they had diced and sliced you into a photo-worthy Deli presentation.
Not that I'm a sadist or anything, ahem, but a little risk of losing life or limb can make badge hunting a challenge and wandering the city exciting.

Great work on the event CW.

Not everyone would want to do this.  Perhaps the outdoor areas of PVP zones could be made dangerous in some manner?   Provocative Violent Participation?   Use the PVP indicator to indicate that it only happens in those zones?   Or put something in AE?

I wasn't really thinking of regular city zones, but mostly Hazard Zones. It's just a little sad to roam through the Hive or visit Monster Island and there is nothing there to make you be Careful. Croatoa was always one of my favorites because it was sorta always Halloween there between Eochai and Jack, Sally and the witches, it was spooky.
I Miss seeing Adamaster, Jurrasik, Babbage, and Luska, you know the guys who could one hit you most of the time, absent from their normal stomping grounds. Seems weird standing on the Rickti Mothership and there is nothing to worry about.

Well done Codewalker.

As if  having a working TP with cool aura wasn't enough.  We get recall friend too!  Which I've had fun using in...

The Halloween Event has been fun to take part in. :)

I have all but the last fashion badge and a bucket of salvage.  (I guess that's the one I have to delete temporary powers NPC costumes to 're-collect' enough of them to get to 50?)  I even got my rock.  (Prized possession.)  Though if I could have one request would be to have the stone mallet spawn in my hand...  (It's a guy thing...)

This is an interesting patch:

Tasks.  Somethings to do.
Temporary NPC spawn powers that you can transform into...and be affected by.
A Zombie npc that 'spawns' and walks around?  (Did I see that correctly, he comes out the ground and/or emerges from or goes into a door?)
An 'easter egg' in Croatoa (map design...at work...)
Powers that affect the PC.
Working hit points from those environment spawn powers.
A working hospital.  (Never thought I'd be glad to see that working again...or feel the existential 'joy' of dying in game...)
Care of the instant death Orbital 'nuke.'
Salvage that you can collect from the environment.
To be...traded in later...from a vendor for...'other stuff.'
Badges.

...these may seem like subtle additions to some under the cloak of an 'event' but I think they are significant.  They demonstrate another test bed of functionality that was previously 'missing' from Paragon Chat...and that we have working hit points in Paragon Chat (and a working Hospital!) is tantamount to teasing.

It suggests that the 'team' are intimately connected with the inner workings of the CoH client and 'arcane sorcery' to plug into said client.  The list above begs the questions we all want to ask but daren't.  it's just best to enjoy the bricks of functionality being 'sensitively' and 'diplomatically' restored to the CoH community.

Rightfully under the 'radar', this patch finally demonstrates the further potential functionality of the Paragon Chat and Client combo with the quiet suggestion of more to come.  A quietly confident release.

And if that wasn't enough...

We get Peacebringers and Warshades with transformational powers 'right after' the event release.

And this is 'only' 1.0.15.  (Can we imagine what a 2.0 release would have?)

Well done to Codewalker and his team.

The CoH legacy is in safe hands.

Azrael.

None of the damage dealing Tricks were significant enough to defeat me.

Interesting.

By design, the Mot chompers should not be enough to defeat a player. Including the final big tick, standing in the patch the entire time should take you down to about 20-30% HP.

The blue patch from the sword, however, should do enough damage to defeat a player who stands in the patch for about 6-7 seconds (varies slightly depending on AT).

And the orbital strike does more than enough damage in a single tick to defeat a player - there is no anti-oneshot code in Paragon Chat.

I honestly can't think of anything that could cause such specific weirdness without breaking everything else in the program.

Thank you, Codewalker! You and Null the Gull made my dream come true. Now I'd like to have that as a costume power, however....

(Is leveling up a thing? I got a notice about being able to level up but it seems that doesn't work, right?)

Halloween salvage is basically a placeholder right now. It exists (both now and in the past) as something to fill in the gaps when you had acquired all or nearly all of the costume powers.

Candy canes can be taken to the Candy Keeper in the ski chalet and traded for winter holiday goodies.

Specific emphasis here: DO NOT DELETE Halloween Salvage if you have it (Halloween Masks).  A shop is coming in the future that you can spend this salvage on temp powers, badges and similar goodies like the Candy Keeper offers over in the Ski Chalet.

Hihi, for test I deleted all SALVAGE but when you re-obtain the same salvage name all the stack acquired respawn in your bag.

HELP!!!

I can't log into paragon chat after I got the latest Windows 10 update.  It gets 3/4 of the way to logging in and then fails.  I've tried the repair function but I get an error message that says "there is a problem repairing paragon chat.   Check that you have completely exited Paragon Chat before attempting to repair".  I am all the way out of Paragon Chat, task manager confirms this.

What can I do to fix that that doesn't make me lose all of my badges?

Before you do anything, backup your character database to a flash drive.

It's located here:
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\ParagonChat\Database\ParagonChat.db

Everybody should really be doing this frequently. I do a lot of db hacking for costumes, so I backup at least once a week. I also backup other things like demos.

Not sure what your main problem could be. I'm on Win10, as well, and haven't run into problems.

Open the side panel of your PC.
Your will find little black boxes with white switches.
Flip the little white switches one by one until your problem is gone.
This procedure comes highly-not-reccommended by anybody who knows anything about computers.
Enjoy!

And as always, don't try this at home, or on your own PC.

Agreed! I'm still amazed that it's necessary to stress this so often. Computers are machines. They do break. Your backup is the only thing securing the data.  The OS can be replaced, it just takes time. In most cases, the data can't - especially photographs!

Whenever I change *anything* remotely important, I shoot it up to Google Drive as an off site backup, then I copy it to another internal drive and once a week I archive the lot to an external drive. It doesn't take long using one of the multitude of free tools available out there for doing just this sort of thing. It may seem like a lot of messing about but if you lose those once in a lifetime photos or important financial data or anything else you've spent hours or weeks working on, you'll be kicking yourself!

Anyway, getting off my soapbox now :)

I agree that backups are very important.
I have a separate directory on my c-drive just for backups.

Windows 10 has repeatedly rolled back drivers for older graphics cards back to their "Microsoft Basic Display Driver". Which is newer than what most older cards have, but is also garbage and doesn't support OpenGL. That might be your issue.

Is there a way to fix that?
Title: Re: Paragon Chat Patch Notes Discussion
Post by: Tahquitz on May 11, 2018, 03:21:29 AM
In the past, I'd say in Windows Update, click on details and uncheck the Microsoft Basic Display Driver, then right click the update and choose Hide Update.  That would knock it out until the next time Microsoft revises the driver and pushes it under a new KB Article Number to make it reappear as a new download.  Under Windows 10, that's not possible.

Press Start and type "Device Manager".  In Device Manager, right click on your video card, go to Properties, then the Driver tab and "Update Driver".  Pick "Browse my computer for driver software", then "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer" and see if Windows 10 replaced the old drivers with the Basic Display Driver or not.  If it hasn't, re-select your good one and click Next to bring it back.

If the Microsoft Basic Display Driver is the only option, I'd download the driver you know that works from your manufacturer and reinstall it that way.  Unfortunately, you'd have to reinstall it every time Microsoft gets a hair up its behind and replaces it again.

So, just what content can we put into an addon-blah.pigg file?

How does content in an addon interact with pre-existing content? Judging by addon-map-pack.pigg, the contents of the addon currently replace or override the pre-existing versions?

If multiple addons are loaded, what order are they loaded?

Anything you would put in the data folder as well as files that aren't normally loaded from the data folder, like geobins.

How does content in an addon interact with pre-existing content?

Override. The game client only sees the last version loaded. All the files in all piggs are loaded (you don't need to ensure some things are loaded before others), but only the last one loaded is used.

If multiple addons are loaded, what order are they loaded?

Piggs in the game client's piggs folder are loaded first; then ParagonChat.pigg, finally any addon-*.pigg files in alphabetical order.

Looks like Leandro answered it.

The functionality is extremely barebones and was quite literally thrown together on Friday as a stopgap measure before the stream. Needed to be able to publish the files for the map pack without having to put them multiple places or in the Issue 24 files (which I'm trying really hard to treat as 'read only').

It will probably be modified or replaced entirely once a real addon system is done. Features I want complete at launch for that are:

The important requirement at some point will be a way to merge .bin entries without replacing the entire database. That's the real stickler when it comes to hosting multiple addons of custom content. Mod makers should only be including defnames or tricks or whatever for their custom content rather than replacing the entire defnames (or whatever) database with their own version of it.

I had Guy Perfect's "Classic Atlas Park" mod still installed when I installed the map pack, and the "Classic Atlas Park" defnames.bin played merry havoc with Kallisti Wharf. I deleted all of the "Classic Atlas Park" files, but even if I packed them up as an addon, it would still be a case of choosing one addon or the other to be useable at any given time because each of them expect to have their own version of defnames.bin installed when, as far as I can tell, the only custom element "Classic Atlas Park" actually needs is the Atlas statue defname and object library entries.

Yes, some new hooks will have to be created for specific elements that can be added/replaced. PChat already does some of that on the fly -- it generates a new costumes.bin with some of the store requirements removed, for instance, and adds a few new things to fxinfo.

That ties in with some other work involving a more flexible database format and a shard requirement system to ensure everybody sharing the same virtual space has the same extra content enabled, but there are pieces of it that can be rolled out in advance of all that.

He intended it to show off how Icon could do custom maps. It worked just as well with the patched game client and Paragon Chat, except for the whole client/server desync thing.

With this new addon tech, the desync issue goes away.
