I'm sorry if I get a bit of feels right now, but listening to the music alone actually makes me cry. I remember back when my dad had the game we each got a server he got Liberty and i got Champion, at the time it was still on issue 1. A bit of backstory in my old house we had a big attic and we had the desktop up there well it had CoH on it, I remember coming home from school and the deal was I did all my homework and I got to play on CoH for a few hours until dinner and then a little after until i had to go to bed. Well as I said my dad played it as well, and remember racing up to the attic after my dad had played for a few hours and asking "Can I play Can I play?!" his response usually "Yea just let me finish the mission I'm in, I'll let you know when it's done". So I would go down stairs and watch Tv or whatever to occupy my time, and then my dad had an excellent way of letting me know i could play, we had pretty good sized speakers for the desktop, well he would go back to the login screen and crank the music up all the way, take into consideration this was a 3 story house and the living room was ground floor, and I would hear the login music playing and i would race upstair and hop in the computer chair and play for what felt like minutes turned into 3-4 hours. That is but a small amount of my experience with CoH. If anyone wants to know more about my experience i would be happy to share it. :D
And I apologize for the typos in advance.

Sharing COH with your dad sounded wonderful, Backneedle.  :)

I grew up reading Marvel Comics, started reading them in grade school with the Fantastic Four & the X-Men.  I had to walk half-a-mile to the nearest drugstore to buy them, then bring them home and sneak them in through the bedroom window to my sister, so I didn't get caught carrying them into the house!

So, when I found COH -- my first computer game ever! -- I was enchanted with the possibilities of not only creating and playing my own superheroes, but of running them with Other Players!  I played with my husband at first and then also with an amazing SG on Virtue, up till the very last day, and loved every minute.  The gaming community was fantastic (and I honestly think it's because they were playing heroes, and so in a way behaved like them.)  I marveled at not only how creative the game itself was, but in the creativity it fostered in those who played it, in RP, in fiction and in art.  It was lightning in a bottle, and I've never encountered its like again.

To this day, I grieve the loss of the game, but console myself with Paragon Chat, and am looking forward to when the successor games come out!

Thankyou, heh, well my dad has been reading comics since he was 3 and CoH was my first Game ever, and I would just read all of his old comics. Dc Fan myself although with what they have been doing in the cinematic universe i'm not too sure

Thanks for sharing your story! I know the feeling.

My oldest introduced me to the game, and we shared a lot of time playing around on it together. I personally still enjoy exploring and spending time (and messing with the AE- even though you can't do anything with it yet).

Even now, when I fly into Atlas Park and the music wells up... so many feels...

Had been a very casual gamer until I found "City of Heroes". Started in late Beta and was a subscriber till the notice of the shutdown came. There was a definite feeling of betrayal and shock. I had a Super group on Virtue from the time that you could form them. I remember all the time doing missions, task forces, respect trials, Hamidon Raids, and even just Base Building. It was a fantastic and engaging experience. I was a little old compared to most players, 40 when the game launched, but felt at home in the streets of Paragon. My brother and I treated this game like most people treat Golf, it was a routine part of our lives. What I wouldn't do for another few hours on the back nine....
