Title: Blood MooooooOOoon
Post by: Xev on October 03, 2018, 05:32:46 PM
I think all my toons have a Supernatural Possession and Nimbus of Force, and, most of them have them in Build 1 just due to they're good team buffs in Alurts.

Deeps' costume which never changes since years (1 aura last year, and 1 kitten pet this year..) has several Takofanes pieces. They're cheap (think I paid 5G for the bracers and looted everything else myself) .. gaudy.. and fit him perfect.

Moar kittehs!

There's a "Catastrophe" perk that gives a Black Cat AF for killing 100 Black Cat ToT monsters. Once you find a spawn location, they're easily farmable. I'm 13/100 so far. If I don't end up getting it, blame the tedium. I got most of those 13 in like 30 minutes, but boredom overcame me.

There's also a Black Kitten AF. Don't know how to get it yet.

Killing the other monsters gives another perk, but I don't think it's very special.

Ut oh...

lol  : )

I can honestly say that I still like Deeps's Anniversary kitten - to the point where it might become a permanent fixture. Deeps kinda evolved into an .... edgelord. It all started with (very few costume pieces...) the basic concept of charred body and flames - especially a flaming head vision which finally got realized with the Takofanes crown, and evolved into what he is today, which, is not Mr. Light and Fluffy.

Soooo.. The kitty adds nice balance. I didn't originally intend for Deeps to be scary... just, flamey. The kitty does a nice job of unscarafying him and dethroning the edgelord thing, plus, I just like it  : )  I mean look (again...) at a snapshot of how cute they are together...!

I suspected as much. The Black Kitten AF comes with 250 Black Cat monster kills. Some people have already gotten it, but it seems bugged at this time.

What's the deal with cats, lately?

Black Cat Monster.. That's new.

Blood Moon used to be my favorite event mainly due to I liked being able to time and run the spawns, and... if no one else was at one when one popped... being able to handle it on my own. I mean, lots of times when those boss spawns pop (Nimbus, etc) no one is there.. So why in the world did they have to make soloing them not worth it.. *shrug*

Haven't logged in for this Blood Moon, yet, but, I better see what all this Cat Business is about! By golly  : )

I guess, maybe, they're still running with the cat theme because 9th anniversary and nine lives? I dunno.

There are Trick or Treaters roaming Millennium City. When you talk to them, they will either say "ToT" and maybe give you gift bags or turn into monsters and attack. The monsters are: Frankenstein, Ghost, Black Cat, Mummy. This is part of the daily mission, so talking to the event guy and killing 10 per day gets you some extra goodies.

There are other things going on. Something in Canada, I think, with wolves/werewolves and the Kiga thing. Also, each week they're going to be adding more. Next week is the zombies and rescuing the heroes missions. There's some PVP thing, as well, but I don't PVP.

So far, the cat AF is the only thing that interests me with the event. Other than the general spookiness of the event, it has never really impressed me. I remember last year I got bored with the hero rescue missions and stop bothering after a few days. The event store has the typical things to buy: vehicles, costume pieces/auras/transformations, etc. None interest me very much. I got the black semi-transparent flying cycle last year, so nothing left to buy.

100 down; 150 to go.

Got the Black Cat AF. Serena is her name. Excellent choice for a name.

I think I may take more time for the kitten so as not to burn out.

Myri-V saves the day, again..

I'd be skipping this! I would.. I just have no CO time.

I'm glad to know what's up!

The werewolf mission is the "PVP thing." The werewolf guy in RenCen gives this mission, and you choose which side to be on-- hunters or werewolves-- then go to Canada and fight other players.

After 100 Black Cat monster kills, there's no visible perk counter, so no way to determine progress. But I estimate I killed about 10 Black Cats so far today. There is a perk counter for total number of monster kills-- mine went from about 380 to 400. The random gods were kind to me and it seemed like half of my monsters were Black Cats.

I think this is fairly new but if I remember right they did this last year, too. Went to Canada last year just to snoop around but I didn't hit the Rencen person first..

PvP is fun in CO! I've done all of the queue's I think and some 1 on 1. Some people, like in STO, are very, very, very good at it. I never felt/feel bad about losing/getting shredded against good PvP players. 1st thing is, that's how they're built - for PvP. Well, and, you have to give them their propers.. Good PvPers ... are good PvPers.

Anyone else out there Blood MoooOOooning? I'm gonna log on today later, probably. Just due to MyriVerse. Well.. and.. I think I heard someone in Trade say Warlord is back in town.. Too much fun in STO right now.. Too much! Ever since I started playing I can't catch up enough to be a fat, lazy, know-it-all uber (as is ever my wish). : )

Yay! Got my kitten this morning. It's the same kitten you could buy at the Event Store last year. "Cinder" the Halloween Black Kitten.

I'm a glutton for tedium. But hey, I "Trick or Treat" in PChat for what amounts to the same thing. Heck, I can tote around my kitten all year long, but you can only use PChat's Halloween costumes for 14 days.

Took her to Canada to show off her blackness against the snow.

Today's patch notes say:

"Fixed a bug where the Unlucky perk was granting the wrong action figure. Players who got this perk can claim the correct one from the fixer contact in rencen."

So... maybe Cinder will change.

Took Cinder to the Fixer contact in the Recog building and had her converted.

She is now 'Mona'.

Who walks around with *exactly* 500 g's and has 1 star... and 59 star refills!

Well, you've got that Disco Ball, Water Balloon, and Taco equipped... soo... your OK on devices..

*snoops further..*

I recognize none of those @'s..

"Oh hey, a kitten!"

500g is the max for a free account. That's why that is there. I never buy anything, so it's pointless anyway.

I don't really care about stars.

I like hitting villains with water balloons, tacos, and dancing with them. I'm trying to get rid of about 100 tacos, tbh. I toss them to any pet I see, especially dinos. I do have the "Mayhem on the Dance Floor" perk for "disco balling" Mega-Ds. Oh, and the "Tacocat" perk for throwing a taco at a kitty.

When there's no room left in hell...

MOAR KITTEHS!

Of course, there's still the Tako drop from last year: Shadow Cat (a black cat with red glowing eyes).

Added this year: Shadow Kitten & Null. Shadow Kitten is just a kitten version of Shadow Cat. Null is a featureless black kitten-shaped thing. These are probably drops, as well.

All of this makes sense to me, except.... how in the world did you GET 500 G's...? hehe. That's quite an achievement with your playstyle.

I consider myself a very sucky player, but the 500g's just came long before I reached level 40. Maybe because I never buy anything, except during events with event favors? The vast majority of my experience is soloing, so maybe because I never had to share loot?

Well, wait... I've used the tailor 2-3 times. But the tailor is very inexpensive.
Title: Re: Blood MooooooOOoon

Very sucky players don't generally walk around with 500g's hehe. that they accidentally accumulated..

The only sucky players in CO are the ones who aren't having fun or are there to complain that they don't know how to have any.

We have to upgrade your account! I mean... if you can get 500g's without even knowing it.. There *are* cool things to buy with in-game currency, you know.. Such as a bigger G limit than 500g. And.........costume pieces. and stuff. You don't have to make it your goal in life, but, it beats throwing the G's away!

For example... what you could do, as a start... is... whenever you see Crates of Q for sale, cheap, and you're in the mood and have the G's.... snap one up. Convert the Q to Zen.. then buy one of the options that lets you carry around as many G's as you want. Meanwhile, your G's never go over 500 and your Questionite/Zen total goes up.

I wish we could buy Dilithium (STO's Questionite) in STO! I'm a friggin' Billionaire in STO..

For 'only', like, 1500 zen(?),  you can fairly vastly improve your CO Experience with that newish bundle they have for sale.. I want to get it, too. More bag slots... more AE slots.. more Bank slots.. no G limit (or, it's really high).. you can custom tint your powers... there's costume pieces.. just about all the stuff one would have when they had monthly Subs in CO.

If you ever see @toonsquad online I'd be more than happy to run some Smashes with you. Most likely, that's why I logged on anyway - to run some Smashes for fun and to save up for that bundle. I've got 100's of resource boosters.. and we'll never lose. You can tinker with your build in a no pressure but action filled situation to see what works/looks cool, and doesn't. That's where all MY G's go... retcons.. It costs ~ ..... 500g to do a full retcon in the PowerHouse iirc..

Other people have other ways of getting G's... and you apparently have Yours..  hehe.

Meanwhile, just buy a crate of Q once in awhile, when you're near your G cap! They're super easy to buy and use and then you'll never waste a single G and your Q/Zen balance will go up.

It's just funny money... but.. you can buy fun stuff with it ... and it seems to be landing in your inventory.. So why not spend it! : )

Maybe I'm overly modest then. If I were to grade myself on tactics and whatnot, I'd give myself a solid F. That's what I meant. I don't involve myself with "gearing up" or getting the right "build" or even fighting well. I die-- A LOT. I think I have all of the "dying" perks.

Heck, I just sorta accidentally made it to 40 without ever thinking about it. I just chose missions and beat stuff up. One day, wham! I was 40.

I also don't really use the bank all that much, because I can't be arsed. Everything you saw in that picture is about everything I have. :P (I do have another bag that wasn't open that has rocks and balloons and tacos.)

The only sucky players in CO are the ones who aren't having fun or are there to complain that they don't know how to have any.
Oh, I agree completely. I'm never not having fun in CO. I hear people complaining about this "grind" stuff, and I wonder if it's some new Starbucks concoction. I never felt like I was grinding in CO. I use past tense because I pretty much consider myself a retired player. I guess I am sorta like a crazy old cat lady in that I'm just around to collect cat AFs and silly things like that.

We have to upgrade your account! I mean... if you can get 500g's without even knowing it.. There *are* cool things to buy with in-game currency, you know.. Such as a bigger G limit than 500g. The only thing I would possibly be interested in from the Zen store are emotes, but I really can't be arsed for that either. The only things I ever do in Champions are the Anniversary and holiday events, and hang out for the rare CapeRadio DJ show (the 2 times I used the tailor were to dress up in costume for a radio show and then back again). Before the recent 2 events, I went months without touching the game, except for DJ Winter's shows. I probably couldn't say that much had there not been kitty AFs. :D

I totally get what you're saying.

Just for the record...

Maybe I'm overly modest then. If I were to grade myself on tactics and whatnot, I'd give myself a solid F.

Well, not everyone was destined to just choose missions and beat up stuff until *wham* they're 40...

Heck, I just sorta accidentally made it to 40 without ever thinking about it. I just chose missions and beat stuff up. One day, wham! I was 40.

*ahem*

: )

Ok, well, let me reduce my point about G's to this... If you have them, why not use them. You'll definitely find something fun to spend them on - auras, costume pieces, emotes, maybe a new vehicle... You don't have to start looking right away, but... for serious.. buy you a crate of Q or 2 and stuff them in your bank. Whenever you get near 500 G's.... buy another crate or two and put them in the bank... Maybe someday you'll want to use them - as-is you don't have that option.

When you start getting a pile of crates, lemme know  : ) Perhaps.... ~ the time you make your Happy 18th Anniversary CO! post... But who cares  : )

I promise I won't bug you about this again hehe. Just hate to see ya toss away any chance to get goodies that I know you'd enjoy should you ever decide to do some shopping. Especially when it's so easy. Players selling stuff like making a sale. You'd make their day too  : )

Oh, I've looked. Nothing really piques my interest enough to purchase or strive for. Majadi has 7 vehicles already. 5 of those just sit collecting dust (you can see 2 in my inventory-- I just walk around with them too :D -- 3 more are about the only things in my bank, and I forgot I had those). They're just a means to get around town fast. She's got about 7k questionite collecting dust too (I know that's not much).

Majadi is a Behemoth build, but I never really put much thought into building. I still don't even know what all the mechanics of the game do. I just picked whatever felt right for the character at the time. Maybe Behemoths are just tough enough to coast thru to 40. /shrug

Oooo... anyway... new toy!! Ghost shark drop off Deathlords this morning! Rawr! Jabberjaw! Nyuk! Nyuk! Nyuk!

Behemoths used to be considered one of the better AT's. Probably still are.

I went through some phases with vehicles.. like, when they were 'required' to run Forum Malvanum.. I mean, people were real vehicle snobs! As in, if you didn't have one, you couldn't get on the team. I didn't like using vehicles because.. well.. *shrug*..

They're just a means to get around town fast.

I didn't spend all that time in the Powerhouse just to float around in an OP .. car.

Then Deeps got his Demonwing...

It's like the perfect Deepsmobile. So I started liking vehicles more. But still, it's just for getting around in style.

I never rank Flying up, if I even have it.. so I use my vehicles to get around, too, sometimes, if it's a long trip. They were decent for spawn jumping in Blood Moon  : ) And for getting across both Andriths - the original, and the newer Purple one.

That's cool. I just don't think most of the vehicles fit Majadi, other than what I've got. She's never really been much of a flyer. I don't even like flying her in PChat.

Trivia fact: I've found that RP heavy players are usually into flying. The power, that is.

Travel powers are one of CO's strong points. Teleport is good, fly is fun. I think I tried superspeed and jump.. once...in the very beginning. Obviously didn't impress me. CO travel powers Look good, some more than others..

I think ground combat is where CO is really great. Athletics Rank 3 on allll my toons.

I'm just now getting to where I can clunk around in STO ground combat. I mean, STO Ground is an acquired taste with lots of options.. and I'm kinda into it now that I'm not used to regularly playing CO, and, my STO expectations and knowledge have changed.

CO Ground is pinnacle. Fast, fluid, lots of action and flash. I got tired of re-rolling and rules changing (zero build security and way too much wasted time in the Powerhouse) otherwise I'd still be playing I'm sure.

None of which is interesting if you play just to *be* in the world and throw tacos at stuff  : ) In my defense, it's still somewhat early for a Sunday, and I wrote this before the realization.

I wonder if it's possible to get the mega-cosmic-shadow cat of ultimate power for obtaining X amount of felines.. I think the odds of you finding out are wayyyy better than mine  : D

Spying your inventory, again, reminds me that the consumable version of the disco ball used to be a fairly uber crowd control device. Even Alert bosses would stop and dance while the team pounded away on them. I think that stopped, though, around the time the perma-disco ball (purchasable with G's, btw!) became available.

I think you're right about the disco ball.

That thing was so great when it was new. I was getting pounded on harder, then. It seems like I was leveling at the time, too. Those Grab Alurt bosses would just shred a newb team. When that time came... out came the disco ball!

Boss mobs still dance under the influence of Disco, huh? But they attack, too  : /

Man I couldn't wait to get my first perma-disco ball but wow what a disappointment when it 'didn't work right'. An understandable one.. But still  : )

Bought a Tako throne from the event store. It was maybe the only thing I would want. Wonder if I can piecemeal a Tako throne in PChat base builder. Hmm...

Um... well... after years of playing this, I'm only just now discovering the Auction House. Uh oh. Shopping! Might actually need to get more money, after all, Xev. Bought a few AFs and clothes. Sold a few things too. But still, my playtime will drastically fall after these events are done.

Um... well... after years of playing this, I'm only just now discovering the Auction House. Uh oh. Shopping! Might actually need to get more money, after all, Xev.
And you're just poking your nose into ONE store! The Auction house.. There's also the Zen store.. the Q store (who ever buys stuff, there...?).. the Drifter... Recognition Vendors,  where there's some good devices, both consumable and perma, that can be had with easy to get Until Rec (or did I get my Gadroon-whatsits perma device with Silver Rec... I know there are some decent consumable devices I always stock up on with Until Rec.. ) - and then there's Gold rec stuff for people that have and are not avoiding Gold Rec... out of protest. I'm probably forgetting some vendors.. The PVP vendor.... Nemesis vendor.. CO has a *lot* of currencies.. People used to post here, all confused, on what currency was what. None of these currencies have to be purchased with rl cash, either, it can all be picked up or traded for in-game.

I'm glad you got the bug! There's all kinds of cool stuff to buy and use in CO. People *will* buy your stuff, too.. I sold stuff I never thought ppl would buy. Like (cheap.. but, still) costume pieces from Rampages.. that there are billions of in circulation.

But still, my playtime will drastically fall after these events are done.

Nuuuuuu! That is not allowed. You're elected as the new head of Titan/CO  : ) It needs one! It's a great job, you'll love it. One of the things I miss most is having people nonstop telling me I wasn't having fun  : D

The Christmas Event I might actually participate in at least a little. Blood Moon used to be by far my favorite Event before the whole Boss Mob (Nimbus, etc) change thing.  I do still like that run to the big toy soldiers at Christmas.. with that creepy, twisted Christmas music playing all along the way that just kinda haunts you. I used to always say I thought the Christmas (Winter.. whatever they call it..) Event was creepier than Blood Moon. I have no idea what the rewards are I just like running the queue and I don't look forward to the creepy music but it is memorable.

Well, I've looked in the Zen and Questionite stores. I'm not that interested. I did buy about 30 Zen a while back, but there still isn't a lot of incentive for me (not enough for me to devote much time). For some odd reason, I just never read the big sign on the Auction building until this week.

And yeah, I've been to the Recognition stores a bunch. Except the UNTIL vendor, I'm not interested in anything. I bought Majadi's grey wolf puppy pet AF there a long time ago.

The only times I talk to the Drifter are during events. I'm not interested in him or his currency. I don't really like the concept of "lock boxes," so I'm never going to bother with them.

Well, I've looked in the Zen and Questionite stores. I'm not that interested.

They added a bunch of stuff to the Q store since I stopped playing regularly. Stuff that I was upset about having to buy all the sudden after 4 years of playing, I think. Powers? I forget. The Q store has never really interested me.

The Z store on the other hand.....

The Z store is where all many of the best goodies are. FF slots.. That 1500Zen pack that basically transforms you into a subbed player of yesterday. Slots of all kinds..

Saving up Q to convert to Z used to be one of the more engaging parts of playing CO. I was weened on EverQuest... I have losing myself in the farming process, deeply ingrained. The Z store is like a modern EverQuest... quest. To me. Used to be!  : )

I don't really like the concept of "lock boxes," so I'm never going to bother with them.

Never is a long time. Can be, one day, you're sleeping on mattresses stuffed with G's or Z with nothing else as interesting left to buy.

That'd be about when I open my next lockbox  : )

I pity ppl who play with a gambling addiction, often. On the other side of that - some people really seem to know how to work the lockbox market and make it work for them.

Anyway, yeah. The AE and Z store were always what I used to save up for. Still am! I need like 200 more Q worth of Zen to get that bundle I mentioned earlier.

Many of these things would just require too much of a lifestyle change for me. I don't intend on ever making another character other than Majadi, and many things just don't fit her. Tako's Throne isn't really her, either. I imagine it would become another Kitty Condo in her townhouse/base. I just felt a sorta "use them or loose them" thing. I'll probably buy a few more things before the store closes just because I feel pressured to do so.

I just scanned the Q store -- All of the "gearing" stuff is right out. Vehicle mods are out. Only the hoodie seemed to really fit as far as costumes. Auras are out. I have sorta been eyeing the shadow dragon AF/pet in auction. Most things I can just wait till I see them in auction. I don't care that much. I don't really have the "bug" as you put it. If I see it and have the cash, I might grab it... or not.

Even irl, I'm not much of a material person. My car is 12 years old. I always buy one of the cheapest computers available. My phone doesn't even do text messages. What I loved so much about CoH (other than community) was it lacked the loot mentality.

As for Lock Boxes: I never was a fan of paying for randomness. Never got into baseball cards or any CCGs mainly because of this.

lol I'm not trying to talk you into any kind of commitment  ..  : )

What I'm saying, is... the same thing as before... and then you found the AE. There's cool stuff to buy in CO.

It allllllllll starts, with, say...... you going into the AE and buying a Tako throne...

Then, maybe you get to 500g's again at some point and buy some Q crates....

At this point, the possibilities open up to you in the Z-store - the best store. To me. Maybe you find another! You play other parts of the game completely different than me, soooo, why is it not possible that you find one of the other stores more interesting than I do? So I tried to bring up all the names I could think of.

Actually... the AE takes the number one spot as my favorite store, often...

To me, the Z-store is kinda the holy grail store, and, AE is the plunder store. And who doesn't like holy grails or plunder.

Anyway... yeah. No lifestyle changes. I think you're perfectly fine on a Tako throne, carry on  ; )

People buy strange things. I just sold a Kabuki Hair piece for 400g, so I'm back up to 500. :D No offense to anyone who liked the Kabuki Hair. I only sold it because I already had one.  :P

I really think that Shadow Dragon AF was the only thing in the whole Q store that interested me. But someone is selling it on auction for 300, so maaaaaybe... if not, then I don't really care that much. I'm gonna sleep on it. Point is that I have no incentive to acquire Q. The only reason I have any Q at all is because of Q specials where you earn Q for killing everything.

And there's nothing in the Zen store that I want. Nothing at all.

When I talk about lifestyle change, I'm talking about things like gearing, vehicle mods, and getting altitis where I have to feed and clothe more characters. I'm never, ever going to be interested in things like that when it comes to CO. I'm just not that type of gamer anymore. Majadi is it for me, and she's pretty much set for life. I participate in events, and that's pretty much it.

See now, I, would call that a pretty worthy sale. I've made wayyyyyyyyyy more 5g sales than 400g sales and the most I ever got for 1 thing, was... under 2k. It was probably much closer to 1k but I *know* I sold *something* for over 1k and I have some Valerian Scarlet tights and .... something else from her that used to sell for 1kish that I just got (finally.....) before I got  out of the market.

So, coming from a person with that perspective (a relatively newb AEer), 400g's from something you didn't expect to sell sounds pretty good. Sounds like 2 Q crates to me *cha-ching*.

yeah, I know.. I get it...

buuuuut...

you weren't into the AE, before, right? and then you found stuff.

all I'm saying, is.. don't assume this:

she's pretty much set for life.

and this: when you get to 500g's don't let the overflow *poof*

OH and... Captain I-have-no-use-for-zen..

Buy that 1500z bundle from the Z store and your overflow will never poof due to you won't have a 500g cap anymore. And you will be able to color tint all your powers. And you'll get a ton of costume pieces. And you'll get more bag slots for carrying around stuff that doesn't really matter to you, but, if you had more slots with which to store and sell... you could have moar dough to blow! There's gotta be other stuff in that bundle, too, that's good, I haven't looked at it for awhile. It's a great bundle! You'd take it if it were free  : p

Or just buy the cap increase.. but.. I wouldn't! no way, nuuuuuu. But, that's me.

No lifestyle changes. Play however you want, whenever you want. I'm just trying to .... be your..... finance manager and.... shopping advisor - for stuff you already have or will already get just by playing however you play. I mean you got the first 500g's on your own and 400 more for some hair, already! Just keep doing whatever you're doing. But with more toys and color  : )

Until you lose interest, tomorrow.

And then maybe we talk again next year  : )

or whatever..

No lifestyle changes  : )

Yes, but that requires a lifestyle change. Under my normal gameplay, I've amassed 30z... in years of playing. It would probably take the better part of a decade for me to reach 1500. I really don't think CO is going to be here. I'm very doubtful it's going to make it past 2020, tbh.

Almost none of which I would ever use. This is part of the "set for life" thing. Majadi's the only character I ever intend on creating. She has the only costume she's ever going to use, except for exceeding rare instances. And I've looked at all of the offered costumes -- I don't want them.

I think there's not one person following this that wouldn't say we both have said our peace. hehe.

You can send me your extra stuff if you ever get in an overflow situation again. @toonsquad! No donation is too small or large. And I don't even play! I'll still take that lewt. I may never use it either but why pass it up  : )

I think maybe we can be a benefit to each other .... after all....! *evil comic book villain laugh but made funny*

Anything noteworthy currently going on with Blood MoooOooon? I'm just having more and more fun in STO or I'd play CO more. I don't have time to do what I want to do, there, already. I always feel guilty when posting here I'm not playing CO!

Everything's winding down now. It ends after the Thursday patch. There have been a few costume pieces this week: Set monster head, mad scientist hair (looks a lot like Doctor 12 hair), and a witch's broom weapon piece. A new emote: hunched over idle zombie. Tako's chair, in both power and vehicle forms (I don't think they are new though).

You have to figure out about what parts!

My last private message was from.... Brou? Who's that..

OK so after finally remembering where to open mail with attachments... (I never get those! except for auction rejects and it's been awhile) I blew some people off their feet in the AE with my new party cannon which nearly made me spit dentist gauze.. and then reluctantly put Tuxedo Kitty away to get a look at Shadow Cat and Kitten, who, I like a lot, but.... who could separate these two...?

Chair... corrupting... argh! Feeling very Blofeld.

Awwwww its over, already?

Yeah. I ran around RC 100 times looking for something that said "Mail." Had to Google how to get mail attachments.

I made the RC circle and saw Nemesis and Socrates and then Until, and thought, 'why am I clicking on this, just to click everything?' and then my mail opened up and I scooped up my goodies. Of course! Because everyone knows that Until = Mail. And it also makes perfect sense that there's no Until rec vendor, there, or anything Until related. (Maybe I missed something.)

I was going to make a new post and I thought about a private message, but, I didn't.

All I wanna say, is, MyriV and anyone else - if you want some variety in play and it appeals to you at all, I would highly recommend trying STO. You can keep all of your custom chat channels including your Friends list and you can at least observe what is going on in CO Trade.

Also, it's just a huge game. There's lots to do. The costume creator is actually really good. One thing it has in common with the CO cc is that, the more costume pieces you have, the more you can do.

The Ground portion of STO should seem... unintimidating to a CO player. I mean, it doesn't move as fast, but, there is still plenty to do and plenty of options for builds.

The Exchange is very active.. there's always new stuff going on.. the Random queue's are super hot, and there's a ton of mishes and patrols and battlezones and and and.

Sci-fi and comic books have always appealed to me. So has fantasy stuff and I want to finally, some day, finally, play some NWO.

I can't speak for NWO, but of the Cryptic Trio, STO, like CO, is pretty great and I would highly recommend toughing out the learning curve and trying it out, if, it appeals to you at all.

That's okay. Me and STO did not get along. I found it a chore to even get to the level to hang out on Risa (10, was it?). I got that far just because DJ Pheo was having a show on Risa (Majadi has a permanent furlough on Risa). Missions seemed dull. I get it-- you're in the military, but starting costume choices and hair styles were not appealing. Even the available colours were drab. And I hatehatehate flying starships.

Furthermore my current computer gets along with STO even less. Play 30 minutes, crash, play 20 minutes, crash...

Post by: Xev on November 12, 2018, 02:22:18 PM
Awww that's too bad.

If you can't run the game you can't run it. There are plenty of tweaks to get it to run - like turning off the newish lighting feature. But. Yeah. I hear ya.

I can't talk about mishes much due to I never run them. The first STO mish I ever ran had me crawling around with a flashlight trying to find my way through tunnels. Very King's Questy.. King's Quest was great for it's time, but.. all that STO mish did was annoy me.

I stopped being a mish person ~ the time I came back to video games and started playing CoH again. However.. There are some really good STO ones. The Iconian series, about the entire series, is very good. I was there when they made the Original Series Intro - with Kirk's butt (you never see his face), and some fine performing by Chekov and Scotty's rl son, and, we get to see Uhura's legs as I recall. There's some other mishes I liked but nothing sticks out right now.

As with mishes... With costumes you may have to experience more to get to the good stuff.

When you first start out in STO your costume choices are very, very, limited. Even if you already own more costume pieces! (and there are plenty of ways to pick them up). For example, when I make a newb, the newb can't access all the costume pieces I have available to me until they reach a certain level (never paid that close of attention what level..) and then they can wear the rest of the pieces I own. You don't own many pieces in the beginning, either.

There are people wearing all kinds of stuff that I have no idea where they got it from. and I tell you, there is some cool stuff to wear! You won't see it when you make a newb..

Well, and... I think you can actually have more customization than CO does, when it comes to body proportions and details. I mean.. I set out to make a Dr. Zachary Smith from Lost in Space.. and I did it. He has the nose, the chin, the shoulders, the hair, the belly... It's not a bad representation considering that's usually not my thing.

Anyway, yeah. Bummer. I had my newb gear tradeskiller standing at attention! (He always is, though...  : ) If STO doesn't play, it doesn't play. If it makes you feel better.. I think STO crashes on every single player's machine at one point or another. Some just have to play with settings more than others and some have less crashes than others due to STO likes their PC more for whatever reason. STO does seem to try to take advantage of current tech so you may need to play with the many settings available (just dump them all to lowest, and turn off the new lighting - as a start - and then work your way up) if you (like me!) don't have it.

On the subject of costume pieces.. I would say, don't give up on finding more for Majadi! I just found a new one for Deeps this year..... *meow*. (The kitty qualifies). Deeps is doing good if he finds one new piece per year but he usually does. The only thing that is the same about Deeps, now, as when I first made him, is.. his tights, chest emblem, and head. He looks very similar but I've fleshed out my concept for him more over the years with finding new pieces here and there.

Edit...:

I get it-- you're in the military, but starting costume choices and hair styles were not appealing. Even the available colours were drab.

Had to add - there are many toons playing STO that don't look like they're in any military that I'd imagine. In RP terms they could be smugglers, renegades, or just space weirdos/citizens (Orion gurls..). There's a lot of far out, and, plenty of sexah, options for creating a toon's look that don't look militaristic.

I think there are 2 kinds of costumes, too. 1 is like what you'd wear on Risa and the other is considered your uniform or formal. I think.. I haven't spent a whole lot of time on learning what's possible in the costume creator, but, I thought I'd try and pass along what I could due to when I did spend a lot of time with it - it was pretty rewarding, and, I have seen a lot of non-uniform type costumes/looks that range from sexah to far-out to weird to just kinda normal.

The 'starting' pieces that you get as a newb, even when you have more pieces available to your account but can't use them yet, get boring real fast - I agree. They did even for me. But there's tons more available and you can really customize your look as far as proportions go - it was real helpful when making my Dr. Smith homage.

At the lowest graphics settings my computer still doesn't like it.

I wasn't saying they look military, but the choices are all horribly limited and drab. The hairstyles, for instance, none of them I liked. I had to settle. You shouldn't have to do a bunch of stuff to look good. No other game I've ever played is like this. CO gives you a ton of great choices right at the start, and on a free account. STO? Hardly anything at all. And for some reason, the colour palette is stunted to drab colours. Give me total access to colours at least. And I'm talking about your off duty selection. I get that uniforms are what they are.

It's way past time to turn me around on this. I've explored the game quite a bit of what's available for a level 10. What it offers is really my worst MMO experience since I ran screaming from Ultima Online 20 years ago.

It's way past time to turn me around on this. I've explored the game quite a bit of what's available for a level 10. What it offers is really my worst MMO experience since I ran screaming from Ultima Online 20 years ago.

So what I hear you saying, is.... you don't like the game..

Up to level 10...! but .. apparently that was plenty enough! The game does change, exponentially, from level 10, however..., if you don't like the core of what is going on in the game - you don't like it - and, I wouldn't want to play if it had problems with my machine, either.

OK OK OK ! You've finally driven it home.. No more STO. hehe.

CO gives you a ton of great choices right at the start, and on a free account.

This is true, and, I would add a point that I helped bury: There's way way wayyyyyyy more.
