Title: Avira Antivirus Premium 2012 reporting titan sentinel as virus
Post by: Magik13 on March 08, 2012, 07:25:36 PM
After booting up this morning I am guessing my copy of Avira updated its profile and suddenly started reporting titan sentinel as being infectd BDS/Backdoor.Gen7.  I downloaded the latest copy to make sure mine hadn't been altered somehow and rescanned it with both malwarebytes antimalware and Avira. Malwarebytes shows it as clean, Avira still shows it as BDS/Backdoor.Gen7.

I can add it to the exception list on Avira and am fine with that, since I trust malwarebytes more than avira, but other folks might see this as well, so I thought I would post about it.

Well, the current program up there on the server hasn't changed since, what, September? So it's likely a false positive. If no one else is having Avira flag it, you might have a compromise on your machine.

What Guy said and you might want to find how Avira lets users submit known clean files so they can adjust their scanners.

I also got a warning from Avira on this file today. As for Magik, Malwarebytes did not show an infection.

I get Skype showing up on some programs at times, such as HitmanPro, and it's completely clean.  It's gotta be just a misread.

Avast! marks it as malware as well now.
Or better:

We did not find enough evidence to identify the file as malware. However, you should use extreme caution when accessing it.

Time to identify Avast! as malware, then. I mean, we don't have enough evidence for it, but that never stopped them! (-:

Eh, I'm always skeptical of low budget security programs as they're likely easier to punch through/corrupt anyway.

Well, I submitted it to Avira as a false postitive - will see what they say, hopefully they will fix their signature files.
