Title: External Editor for wiki
Post by: taosin on August 18, 2012, 03:54:51 AM
Hi guys,

I presently edit the wiki in Firefox, using Cameron's add in dictionary. I sometimes copy out to Word 2010 with settings like straight quotes and all, and paste back. I have a notepad document in my start menu that has lots of code I use all the time.

I'd love to be able to edit directly in Word, and in a month or two this may become a need.

I'm lost at the external editors page, and am wondering if there is a way to accomplish this?

Have you taken a look at Microsoft's Add-In? It should let you save your content as wiki text, which you can then copy-paste into PW.

Setting up the external editors thing is pretty advanced. I've never done it and my impression is that there are issues with using MS Word for it, even if you do get it set up. You can read more about it here:

The bottom of the above link seems to suggest that things might work better for you if you used LibreOffice or OpenOffice. Is that viable?

EDIT: I think this is more designed for plaintext editors but it might also work for MS Word: http://www.listary.com/text-editor-anywhere  Might be especially good alongside that MS plugin for wiki text. Unfortunately I don't have MS Word so I can't test it.

I've always just used a combo of Notepad and the regular Wiki editor for everything I have ever done.  Then again, I use Firefox at home so it notifies me of spelling issues.
