Title: Call to Action: Positron's Ally Event
Post by: TonyV on September 12, 2012, 06:58:32 PM
Hey all, it's time for our next event!  The coordinators at the Titan Network have been discussing what we can do to keep fans engaged and having fun, and I think we've come up with a pretty good follow-up to the Unity Rally this past weekend.  I'm going to let Maressa, purveyor of our last project, announce and give the details of this one as well.  I know I'll be there, and I hope you will be able to come, too!

Ever since our Rally last weekend Tony and I have been working on what our next in game event should be. Rallies are great but we wanted to something a bit more active and something that non VIPs could get involved in. We also wanted something that would be a nod to the developers without whom we would have no game to play. With all of that in mind I would like to announce:

Positron's Ally

Two days of Task Force fun.

On Thursday September 20th at 9PM Eastern/ 2AM GMT

And

Saturday September 22nd at 12 Noon Eastern/5PM GMT

Join TonyV, myself and the entire Titan Network team in running the Positron Task Forces, part one and two. In the world’s biggest synchronized Positron Task Force group across all the City of Heroes Servers.

Come with a team already formed or make yourself a PUG while you’re there!

Take screenshots, chat with old friends, make new friends and listen to your favorite server based radio stations.

Hmm ... will try.  I may not be home in time Thursday night, and the Saturday one is a bit early here in the Pacific time zone.

I'm going to try to make both. The Thursday one kind of depends on (a) how much homework my kids have and (b) how good they are at procrastinating.

Protector: GET READY!

That's actually why we're holding it twice, and why the one on Saturday is a bit earlier.  We know that some people work on weekends, and European gamers especially miss out on stuff that takes place too late.  We wanted to make this one as all-inclusive as possible.  Obviously, if you can come to both, all the better!  I plan on being at both and will be leading teams through.

To our friends in Pacific countries, sorry, but man your time zones are hard to plan around.  :)  (Still, if you're at home on Friday morning or want to stay up really late Saturday night, please do come!)

Much as I love y'all, I'm not staying up until 4am for you, but I'll do my best to be there for the Saturday one.

By the way, thanks for noticing that not everyone playing the game is in America. It's been great to be able to be a part of events, instead of sleeping, like I usually am when fun stuffs happening :)

The Iron Eagles, that crazy hardcore supergroup on Justice, meet on Thursday nights regularly.  We will answer this call!  (Particularly since it's hard for us to do high-level stuff, so this is tailor-made for us to put the most heroes into play.)

Hm, 9 PM eastern is 5 PM Pacific.

We will *attempt* to make it. The Horde may interfere. (By which I mean my kids.)

I suspect that if someone wanted to step up and run it, the official message could be modified to include offset times for players in other timezones.  Everyone understands that it's hard to have one person run everything, but it's hard to volunteer people a third of the way around the world.

If you can run a TF, you could lead a horde of them!  :)

Don't think I can make Thursday (isn't that 6pm Pacific, not 5pm?) but I should be okay for Saturday.  Sounds like fun!

Posted it as an event on a SG site I have access to!

:) Great idea, I will most likely be on Sat.

Have to make a suggestion here however as well, I have been seeing post from Villians saying (for a lack of better words) they are feeling left out of these events. Most of the post seem to go something like this (or at least close to it) "I think it's great we are having the Rally / CC but they are always in AP or hero zones, why not do something on Mercy or Grandville (other zones have been mentioned as well)"

So I thought I'd bring this to your guys attention

Are you sure about the GMT bit, here in the UK we are on BST, so would that be 3am and 6pm? (sorry to be an arse :( )

That's a good point. Why not do a double event? Posi for heroes, one of the SFs for villains?

I will try to be there Thursday, but, definitely on Saturday.

I just discovered this sight and have been relying on posts to the CoH Discussion Form Threads, but, will definitely be here to keep a closer eye on anything I can do to help.

I did send an email to one of the news anchors at Lexington, KY News Channel 18 in hopes of rallying some TV news support, of course, I don't expect to hear back from her, but figured I would give it a shot.

You know, up until just a year or two ago this sort of thing was never an issue. The time posted is for the current time in the UK. So 2AM is 2AM in the UK, 5PM is 5PM UK time. As someone in UK's timezone tis important for me to keep these things straight too :P

Awesome pic!  I'm the Titan Weapon guy doing Taunt.  I was wondering what the screenshot was for.

As for the event, I'll be on both Thursday and Saturday, but I'm not 100% sure what time.  I'd like to run this on several characters so I'm down for running Posi several times over several hours if others are willing.

I've mostly played Villains in the 9 months I've played this game and I'm not really familiar with this.

Am I correct that this is a level 10-15 task force in Steel Canyon? I do happen to have a Hero in the right level range.

Should I try to go to any specific servers? (Due to unfortunate timing of holidays I'm not VIP right now, but I do have plenty of character transfer tokens - I know I still would need to unlock a slot on the right server).

Correct.  Part One (http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Positron_Task_Force_Part_One) is 10-15.  Part Two (http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Positron_Task_Force_Part_Two) is 11-16.  Minimum team size for each part is 3.  Completion of both parts grants the Positron's Ally badge (http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Positron%27s_Ally_Badge).

No particular server.  The plan is to simultaneously form teams on every server to run this event.

Good idea for an event; like most of you, I have been heartbroken since the announcement, and to be honest, haven't run a single mission let alone taskforce in the last two weeks...

I was there for the Unity Rally (Atlas Park 25 on Virtue) and am going to try to hit the Guardian rally next Monday night (September 17, 7:00 PM in Pocket D, IIRC) -- but, I'll DEFINITELY be there next Thursday night (September 20) on Infinity!

Cheers!

I will be there for both!!!  Cant wait :0)

A few ideas to bounce around so our villian friends dont feel so left out.

I think the ultimate show of true unity would be heros and villians ,,fighting side by side.

1. Rikti War Zone missions and/or Mother ship raids on all servers all at once,,heros and vills fighting together to make a stand.

2. Not only a great way for heros and vills to be together in the same zone but to maybe even fight together (not sure if possible never tried it) as well as show off the awesome job the devs did ,,but what about we have an invade Preatoria day? Theres a few zone events that can be done,,and not only can heros and vill go there ,but thanks to the tunnel system,,even free never vip folks can go as well.

3. Call it boring and me old school,,but I say we need to have a Pocket D night ,,PERIOD!!!  A place we can all go,,have all the different stations broadcast from there.I can see it now,,the crews from thedarkradio.com,,paragon radio, and the cape,,all up top with DJ Zero. And have a sneaky dev slip in and spawn some serious drops to help keep us busy and the mood lively.  I miss the days when pocket d was the jumping point for many groups or just the place to hang out.

This is exactly why we've planned two events. I'm on the same side of the pond as you. This is the best way to accommodate the most people as possible. Though I do feel bad for Asia/Australia. They're impossible to plan for :P.

So, I was there early...  <awkward>  Misread the date.  :-\

I will probably be on Champion, as that's where the one friend who has committed has characters (his VIP account lapsed while he was chaperoning a trip to China, and, now, well...)

I would like to play on one of the less traveled servers, tho.  I have playable characters on Pinn and Prot, but the others, besides Virtue and Exalted, are at level 6 and below.  I'll see if I can get something up to level on one of the quieter servers for Saturday.

I only just got a computer that can handle CoX after being out of touch for a year.  I unfortunately missed knowing about this until just now, which I assume is too late to join in.

I will be watching this forum closely to see what comes next and for updates to this situation.

I've been playing this game for a long time.  Years when my typical attention span for a game is measured in months.

And who knows, maybe I'll make it on Thursday, if not to participate, then just to see you guys off.

Nope.  The intent is to run the event on every server, all at the same time.

I'm re-downloading the game right now... Prolly won't make it on time for tonight, so count me in for the 22nd.

we're up to three teams now!

We had a nice team with our three teams on Liberty.  We ran both parts and ran the teams as a league so we could chat about our favorite CoH memories.  (Yes, you can run separate TF instances as a league!)  I'll repost a quotation I gave before we started, when we were all standing around doing /e holdtorch, slightly tweaked from its original form in my first Kid Eros CoH comic, "One Light":

"The world is a vast, black abyss, a place of cruelty, misery, and pain.  Against that endless night, each love is one light, a tiny flame struggling against the dark.  We are heroes.  We uphold those lights.  Together, they light the world!"

Ten Iron Eagles lined up on Justice to help Positron and TonyV.

There were two deaths -- Nine Lives 8, a Dominator, fell in Posi I -- the final mission in Atlas, rescuing the heroes; and Bloodrage, a Blaster, fell on the steps of City Hall, in an epic melee that went on and on.

They will not fade into the ServerDark!  They fought like warrior-poets and fell in a blaze of hardcore glory!

There were numerous other teams -- a good turnout.

Save COH!

On Infinity we had 5 Full teams running in a League, it was amazing! Tony V made an appearance, but was only Level 9 when he appeared. DOH! After a brief pause to get Tony where he needed to be, all five teams went forth to finish Posi 1. And even with the delays and late hour, we had four reconstitued teams make it though Posi 2 as well. Our team even stayed to clear-out the good Doctor's minions after we took down his Frankenstien-behind. A really fun evening with an fabulous group of heroes! Can't wait for Saturday to do it again! Look for Diversion Girl and Orange Ember.  :)

Ooh, I got pictures!  Here are some of mine:

Infinity heroes waiting (mainly on me) to start task force:

My first team.  Most of them stuck around for part 2, but there was a little bit of shuffling between parts:

Another shot of my first team, on our way to save Atlas Park:

We took a few screenshots between part 1 and part 2.  This seemed appropriate:

And this was my team on Infinity facing off against the big baddie himself.  I tried to convince them that maybe Dr. V isn't so bad, that his ideas might have merit, and I think that being an Eidolon wouldn't be so bad, but unfortunately, they wouldn't have any of that.

TonyV!

It was a real honor to be on your team during the Thursday night Positron's Ally run on Infinity server.  I've respected all the help the CoHTitans site has given all of us over the years, and to be honest I almost freaked out when I heard you call for some help to get some quick levels so your new character would qualify for the Positron TF run.  The DFB run and follow-on Steel Canyon street sweeping was fun, (even though I suggested a quick dash around Perez Park for old times sake.)

I happened to be running Ataru Moronboshi, the Kin Melee/Willpower Stalker boyfriend/'husband' of the first character I ever made for the game Ramu (who I got to 50 last week), an Elec/Elec Blaster.  For info on the manga/anime series which inspired these characters, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urusei_Yatsura

But as always, when the damage-heavy team thought it might be a good idea to get a healer, it only took a second to decide to switch to what the team needed even though my main character Sugoi had already gotten the Positron's Ally badge.  I had a lot of fun helping out, and managed to get Sugoi to 45 during the run.  Sugoi/Infinity is the first incarnation of the character (who occupies a slot on all servers) and she'll be the 5th Sugoi to hit 50 before I'm done with her.

I joined a random PUG on Freedom for a Posi Pt 2. One of the players announced he was here with his 8 and 10 year old children and asked if anyone minded...of course we did not. Then we had one spot left open and he asked if he wife could join... well Yeah! Made me smile realizing I was playing with an entire family :) We prolly weren't the best team make up... 2 controllers, 3 defenders, 2 blasters, and a scrapper....but we had fun :) We had 12 deaths...and took awhile...but hey... we all got the badge in the end and I think everyone (except me) got a some levels; I was on I FORGOT MY PROZAC...my 50 Rad/Psi defender.

18 people in all. Considering many ran last Thursday already, not bad at all.

I think people knew it was going on, but it seemed that not that many people where on Pinnacle during that time. Some of it I chalk up to apathy and some to despair, but I hold out good hope for the hero's of Pinnacle as I still see the ones logging in holding the torch in Atlas Park.  Many that I messaged where busy with with work life or couldn't stay for the event due to meat space concerns.

I discovered that a couple of days ago, this is indeed very helpful !

I joined a random PUG on Freedom for a Posi Pt 2. One of the players announced he was here with his 8 and 10 year old children and asked if anyone minded...of course we did not. Then we had one spot left open and he asked if he wife could join... well Yeah! Made me smile realizing I was playing with an entire family :) (https://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/IBurntTheToast/PosiPart2_zpse207f955.jpg)

Yeah, that was my family in this team on Freedom!  Some of you will know me better as ColTech.

The group was a small concept for my family called Stormm Front.  My wife and I created these toons years ago, and have been waiting for the day that we could team with our two sons.  They are now 8 and 10 years old, and it is only in the past year or so that we have finally been able to team as a foursome.

It kills me that this may soon come to an end.  We were just getting ready to start training the 4 year old as well.

These boys have grown up sitting on my lap while I play, hitting the space bar and saying, "Jump, Daddy, Jump!" while I ran around Paragon City.  SInce then, they've grown into major fans of the game, with worse cases of alt-itis than I.

Thanks again to all who joined us on Saturday!  We appreciated your patience with the Stormm Front clan!

Any attempts to get an article in the news sources?  Considering how well the dinner event went you should emphasize the 'Positron's Ally' purpose.

Just be thankful it wasn't a Synapse Rally LOL!

(GRR I hate that TF!)

In general I always found TFs the least enjoyable part of CoH. Well, until they added iTrials. (delicatge shudder) those are just plain awful.

I LOVE the itrials!...and most of the task forces...I find Citadel boring, Dr. Q is rough, really, rough, but other than that, I love the task forces.

Eden is probably my favorite, after that Mother Mayhem.

Hi there, ColTech & Toasty/Prozac!  I'm in there with my main, Wind Wench.  (I didn't get any XP either!)  Emerald Panda is an alt of an SG mate of mine; we're both long time Babes of War!  We were happy to have the whole family there!  I've run with parents and their children before, but it was always just 1 parent and 1 child.  I've never run with an entire family!

So many sad and bittersweet stories coming out of this shutdown.  ColTech, you are not the first parent I've heard of who is saddened that they won't get a chance to share the game with their children or move beyond the "jump, Daddy, jump" phase.  SO many families play together.  We had SG mates, a married couple, who would play on a different server one night a week to play with the Dad of one of the spouses.  I've seen people do the same to team with assorted family that was scattered across the U.S.

We've always been a family friendly SG; we have bunches of couples, RL friends and even parent/teen players as I'm sure many SGs do.  We had some young teens many years back and we made a few adjustments for them.  We kept all talk and jokes PG until 1am.  We tweaked our SG uniform for them.  And we made sure their parents were OK with everything.

There are so many things I dig about the game.  My SG became family and made this game feel like coming home.  But one of my favorite memories took place about 6 months into playing back in 2004; I was on a lowbie team running back and forth between AP and Perez or the Hollows.  Got to talking with one of the players and it turns out it was a Dad helping his 5 year old daughter run her first toon.  I started talking to her about how she liked the game, being a hero and spending time with her Dad instead of talking to her Dad about whatever.  The response time increased significantly, but reading her responses was amazing, heart-warming and touching.  It was awesome.

For that Dad and his daughter (who must be about 13 now), for Coltech and his family, for all the families spending time in-game together and for all of us who have made family out of the friends we made in this game......I hope we can save it.  If not, I hope someday we all get another game that has so many things to see, things to experience and ways to play.

Finally getting around to posting this.

My Task Force at the climax of the adventure.

Only got to run through it all once, since I was still somewhat preoccupied with that 'other' thing.

I was very happy though because in the middle of it my La Fae Verte dinged and I was able to buy her Phantasm Summoning, the last crucial power I really wanted to see her get.

I got to meet Mids.  It might sounds like of dumb since we maintain the character builder utility that he originally wrote, but I'd never actually met him.  Cool guy, we're really lucky to have him in our community!

Some pictures from Union (I don't know what team number we were :P)
We were team 3 when we formed, but moved to team 4 of the league when we were the first to begin the TF.  Ours was the team of the full 8 players.  Ours was also the fastest team on Union, and proved that you don't need a tanker (or brute acting as tank) for a good TF run.

Our league on Defiant. There were at least two more of us who left before the picture was taken.
