Title: Activity: Send a Hero Heroic Get Wells
Post by: Moonfyire101 on September 25, 2012, 08:28:05 PM
So update on my dad. He's checking into another hospital to try to get on some medication that can stop his cancer tumors from growing. He seems optomistic about this after his depression last week. I was thinking since he wants nothing more then to save the game and he's my hero that we could send him hero get well cards.

Now i don't want anyone sending him money or spending money on cards or gifts. I was thinking 1st grade hero cards. So get out those crayons and markers and make your favorite CoH character, scene, or anything you want hero inspired of course. His picture and his main character are below.

...and someone tell Front Lines, my doctor character, to stop gnawing on the inside of my skull. >.>

Ty guys, he'll love them. I really hope we save this game becuase he loves it sooooo much and he doesn't get to see me except on it most of the time. I don't live down the street and havn't had a car in years. This is the world we connect in and where he's a hero not sick.

Having serious cash flow issues. Even postage is proving hard, here, but I'm still committed to this idea. Give some time to finagle.

I wonder if anyone who's done official or fan CoH art would be up for doing an epic comic-style frame of Klack? I would, but I'm terrible at it.  :P

I just saw the post.  I'll write something today and send it.  I suspect that he'll be getting cards and notes for quite a long time to come and more people see it.

Are you sure that's the right address, just "Kenrick"?  Should it be Kenrick St.?

Yes, Kenric is enough. It's a very small city. and thank you Tony, i didn't mean to get on anyones case i was just a little dissapointed last night.

Again, stickfigures and or words are good, it doesn't have to look beautiful. It's the thought that counts so if your not an artist it makes no difference.

I think for a cause like this, bumping is good. I've only just seen it, and I've been trying to look for new posts each evening.

Might I suggest we print out our characters with text in a balloon? The chat balloon will generally last long enough to get a screenie with it.

No need to do that, I'll sticky it through the weekend so people will see it.

Dad recieved another letter today. A post card actually which he described as "cool". I think he said 2 postcards. TY from both of us. He's really loving it and it makes his day better.

Update on his Drs. He went to the other cancer hospital and met with a really nice Dr.which explained that his condition is extremely rare and almost unheard of in adults. It usually is only seen in children. He then told him he is actually in pretty good shape for having it. He suggested that he take the cancer pills (they are supposed to stop the growth) and see if those work. Since there have been no studies done on this type of cancer for those pills he's curious if they will help. He said they should monitor him and if it's not helping give him different chemo. Once they've exhausted all options there are some studies he can join. Also, Mercedes, he (the Dr.) said that he believes you are right about Mayo. He believes this cancer is so rare that Mayo would ship him in for free.

I'll keep ypu all updated and keep the cards comming, thanks a bunch.

Oh, another update, dad said his visit with bob has been postponed to tomorrow. I hope he gets a chance to ask him and he sais yes. Cross your fingers.

Dads in the hospital again. This time the news is worse. He's been battling cancer for 4 years so we all figured he'd beat it as he always did in the past. The doctors this time said they can't do anymore and he has 1-2 months to live. They said chemo may prolong life a little but it won't save him....

I won't be on much for the next few months. As much as i wanted to save the game and still do, it has been my home as well as my dads home and escape but i just won't have time for the next few months. I would like to see it live on as my dads legacy but....

I'll finish the capture videos i was working on for the art team but i really can't offer anything else for a while.

Even if the game is gone, we will still be here, I promise.  You spend every waking moment you can with your dad, and tell him I have an immense amount of gratitude for his support of the game and, more importantly, for having an awesome daughter.  And Moon, this game, it's fun but it is not your dad's legacy.  You are, and the passion I've seen from you and the incredible willingness to step up and help, it says volumes about the quality of the most important job anyone could ever do, raising a child to be a wonderful person.  I'm serious, show him that, I want him to know.  And when the time comes, whether it's tomorrow, in a month, or a decade, he should rest well knowing that he's won the game we all play every day hoping that we can have as much success before its untimely sunset.

Moonfyire, we don't know each other, but I sincerely feel for you. My thoughts are with you and your dad. Don't worry about the game. If it can be saved, we'll save it. If it can't, know that we'll still be here for you. You have us. We are a big extended family and you and your dad are part of it and always will be.

I just caught up on this...oh (((Moony))).  This is just awful and now I feel even worse for misplacing the picture I was going to send.  So I would like to describe it for him, which is probably better then my awful artwork anyway.

I drew klack standing on top of the atlas globe, a figure far larger then life with 33 stick figure heroes below all holding torches.

In light of the situation I would like to ask that your Klack become one of those remembered and honored in Plan Z or a reborn COH in whatever form with a hero who dies passing on his mantle to a beloved daughter and that such an event and a statue stand tall in his memory.  We have the honor to be able to ask him in the living world...but in my faith those that are remembered never truely die....he will never be forgotten...IMO Klack is among the Atlas 33.

So sorry to hear about your dad's passing, Moonfyire.  Hopefully everyone can work out the details without creating more pain for everyone.  We all look forward to your return, but take as much time as you need.

So sorry.  :'(

Moonfyire, my deepest condolences to you and your family. I hope your father has gone to a much better place, and I'm sorry your family is set to pull itself apart rather than come together in such a time.

There's nothing we can do that could ease the pain, but we are all mourning with you... :'(

Be strong.

You have my condolences Moonfyire...he will never be forgotten.  Its not much but I put together a few words

Klack was a hero
Who fell just before our darkest day
He will never be forgotten
In our hearts, his memory will stay

For the hero you were
We raise a statue to thee
If we can't save our world
It will be in plan z

The dead are still with us
Those remembered never die
Farewell dear Klack
Your new world is the sky

You will watch over your daughter
You will ever fly free
Your pain is now ended
You belong to eternity

Ah Moonfyire... I'm so sorry to hear this. I wish I could've met your dad. He sounded like a wonderful guy. I wish I could be there if only just a moment to give you a hug. To take some of your pain and lessen it.

I've had the following squirreled away on my HD for a long time. It's something I've loved ever since I found it. I've had a couple of close friends pass in the last couple of decades. The idea expressed here gives me comfort. I hope it can help you as well.

Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only
slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened.
Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and you are
you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is
untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other,
that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak
of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no
difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity
or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes
that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray
for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it
always was. Let it be spoken without an effort, without
the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever
meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and
unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible
accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out
of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, some-
where very near, just round the corner. All is well.

Moon, I can't think of anything to say that could make anything better, and I'm sorry for that, but know you have a family here ready and more than willing to give you a shoulder and ear when you need/are ready.  Godspeed to your father, may the winds of the eternal keep him afloat and ever watchful to those he loves.

There's nothing I can say to ease the tiniest bit of your anguish. Simply take heart that when you are able, you are part of a community that cares deeply about its members, and when you are ready, there are plenty of people here for you.

I feel remiss in not seeing this until now.  I would also like to add my condolences to those expressed here upon your recent loss.  You are in my thoughts and my heart goes out to you and yours, Moonfyire.  Be certain to take really good care and be patient with things for the next several months.

I had not seen this post until now....so many posts here...it's easy to overlook.

I know what it's like to lose family members. All I can do is post my condolences about your Father..
I have saved a couple of favorite photos of my departed loved ones. I taped one on my washing machine, one in the kitchen, one near the telephone. Typically I save a photo about a good point in time of a loved one. I'm sure your Dad has good memories about you.
Take care.

Hey all, I'm going to unsticky this thread.  I really appreciate everyone who sent cards and I especially appreciate everyone expressing their heartfelt sympathy to one of our community members who has been so actively supporting our efforts.  I have a feeling that Klack won't soon be forgotten.
