Title: Scenic Locations -- Maps, Coordinates and screenshots

So, we've had a pretty expansive library of demorecord maps, models, and actions, and it continues to expand.  What I would like to do is use this thread for compiling the scenic highlights for everyone so, if they so choose to use it, they can.  If you're posting here, I'd prefer if it were one location per post and you using the following layout:

FYI, if you're not editing the screenshots, they contain your location and coordinates in the metadata.

Really good to know, especially as we need to produce some valid coordiantes for the maps, although these are Fraps screenshots, not dumps from the client.  Plus, I wanted to make the information accessible.  ( ' :

Heya gang,

So I have noticed a lot of archiving and posting of unique places but I mostly see zones here and there. Unfortunately I didn't have a chance to snag some of the special mission maps from the game before it went down and was wondering if anyone else may have? Such as the Incarnate Arc where at the end Ouroboros is up in flames, AP destroyed, etc etc.

Maybe they could be posted like therain93 suggested in another thread if possible? Pretty please?

Awesome, thanks guys. I know there were a ton of unique maps out there that I didn't get a chance to grab. I noticed some others putting some up in another thread but I didn't see the one where AP is destroyed (I think that was Statesman or Recluses TF) and the first mission to the Incarnate arc where Ouroboros is destroyed, there are others where zones are in ruins or have a unique aspect to them but I can't remember more off the top of my head. Been up for 32 hours straight working..

Don't be fooled by the names; that's just for which part is "walled off" and set up with spawn points. Of those, IOM_Stadium probably contains the most complete version of the zone, though the central area is unfinished in all of them.

Heya gang,

So I have noticed a lot of archiving and posting of unique places but I mostly see zones here and there. Unfortunately I didn't have a chance to snag some of the special mission maps from the game before it went down and was wondering if anyone else may have? Such as the Incarnate Arc where at the end Ouroboros is up in flames, AP destroyed, etc etc.

Maybe they could be posted like therain93 suggested in another thread if possible? Pretty please?

I've tried the Lava-filled Grendel's Gulch map and the Destroyed Steel canyon map as backdrops, and in each case I get just orange sky.

What am I missing?

I'm just using the basic demos created by DEMOlition, and swapping out map names and coordinates, if that knowledge helps.

I'm just using the basic demos created by DEMOlition, and swapping out map names and coordinates, if that knowledge helps.

Maybe the coordinates you have set are causing you to be way out of the area for the Kallisti Wharf maps and such?

Far out as in, you can't see anything but sky.

Just took a quick look at the maps I've posted and I didn't have a problem. Even so I think I'll start adding in the CAM PYR so that the demo doesn't start with the camera poking through a wall or something.

I think I might have figured out the problem you're having.

You might be deleting that MAP in the demo. If you do that you'll just end up with the generic sky with clouds and depending on the time selected it can appear orange. Hopefully that's the problem.

Actually, I just got one working by taking the demo-code snippets that were posted earlier in the thread and swapping out the map name, as opposed to using one of the DEMOlition files.

So I may be golden now :)

Unfortunately I think that's the majority of the unique maps I have as I lost a bunch of demos when my old computer had a melt down last summer.  :( But I shall keep looking and see what else I can find.

So, you guys ready to really be mad?

Remember a while back one of the devs (WW I think) was talking about a new office tileset? One that looked more like an actual office rather than the architectural disaster that is the current set of "office" maps. On the savecoh channel on Nov 30, whichever dev it was lamented that they didn't think it was in the beta build yet so we'd never get to see it.

Well, they weren't wrong, there are no new office maps in the last beta build. However, I did some digging, and some of the pieces of them are there -- the chunks that the actual maps are built out of. As it turns out, not only is the geometry there, but so are the textures, and what's there is quite finished.

Since I've been working a little with Leandro on map editing (he has a very ambitious project that I won't spoil for you guys, but I think you'll like it), I decided to try my hand at putting some of these pieces back together again so we could get a peek at them. I've got a very simple map built to show off the tileset.

To see it, you'll need to download this pigg file and put it in your Issue 24 Beta client's piggs directory. I don't think the components are present in earlier versions. Once it's in there, you can use this demo file and the F2 feature to take a peek around:

After doing a fly through of Fautline to get to the developers' rec room, a thought had occured to me if the collective coordinates of all the zones were mutually exclusive and reasonably relative to each other.

I have an exercise for you: measure how big Terra Volta is from "outside" (in IP) and how big it is from "inside" (in the Terra Volta zone).

Also, see how you can fit Even without colliding with Faultline. Let's not even talk about The Hive.

If you try to place the connecting zones to IP without War Walls, you'll find that Brickstown, Kings Row, Galaxy City and Steel Canyon use the same space.

The War Walls are there because the zones just don't fit when placed next to each other. Even in the map, you have buffer space between War Walls:

I really want to contribute to the list here, but I've got no idea how you guys are getting the screenshots and the locations... How are you getting that? and, is the only way to get screenshots in demos to alt-tab and paste? Because I haven't gotten any in-demo shots pretty much ever, as far as I can tell.

I got the Pwn Shop map a couple times I think, and some others - the Vaults of Mu, and Sirocco's map (gorgeous) but the Vaults don't have the destructible goddess door as I'm hitting it in one of them.

I'm not sure what your problem could be with the goddess door, except maybe that you started recording with it at less that full HPs? See if setting it up like this helps:

Well what I was doing, was taking multiple demos rather than one long one, since I'd seen something about commands getting wonky on large records.

I don't have any console on my demo playback, not sure how I'm meant to take a screenshot without one. Is a console available normally with hitting `? Obviously I'm used to using that one in source and other games, but I wasn't aware that it worked in coh.

For screenshots, I'm actually using FRAPs when I post there.
Regarding coordinates, I'm typically pulling that from my toon's POS from the demo and the camera comes from either a: the demo, b cameraman utility, or c: I cheat and set it to the same as my toon and let people deal with unhitching the cam and flying around  ( ' ;

I have some excellent screenshots, like all of you, atop atlas, the donut in Faultline, but am not a demo shot pro.  In any event, I do have the Easter Egg in Faultline, too.  One of my characters logged off there.  January I should be out of hideous deadline and able to post.

There are 3 maps in particular that stand out as usable by demo-peeps.

Saved the best for last. READ THIS  You can watch (on youtube) Matt 'Positron' Miller unveil Nova Praetoria using this map at the 2009 HeroCon.
However, everywhere else but this street is borked. I.E.- Cole's tower is 30 feet in the air to make it look taller.
But... this map has a GLORIOUS perk - EVERY ZONE LOADING SCREEN!!! Woohoo!!
For some reason this map doesn't have a zone associated to it, so when you load it, the game grabs any random zone loading screen.
I now have 3 versions of Faultline. Yes, I meant it when I said EVERY loading screen.

Interesting bit of trivia: e3baseraid and Events_HeroCon were set up as actual zones on the servers for some unknown reason, both beta and live. Both could be reached through the long range teleport exploit.

e3baseraid was best to avoid since it has a nasty habit of crashing the mapserver when you zoned in, and a character could easily get stuck there, unable to leave without having a GM move them. I did manage to get it to load once without crashing. Not really much to see there, just some stuff that they should have given us as base items but didn't. :P

Events_HeroCon was a good place to hide, since the zone name showed up as Nova Praetoria in the search window and global friends list. It's got a very very early proto-Nova layout in the unfinished parts if you look around, and on the live server had some level 20 Praetorian Clockwork spawns around the sculpture.

Yeah, it's a tray, so it's invisible unless the camera is "inside". Try 365.5 0 -29, that should be the spawn point for zoning in from Steel; front door probably.

Yep, that was it. Dance Party was before my time. I  Only played for 4 years. ;D Still, I didn't know about the exploit until the last day. Didn't know you could hit these zones with it either, musta been sweet.

I started around 4 years ago also (maybe 5, lost track once vet badges broke), and always felt a little intimidated by the "played since beta" vets. The best part about the LRT glitch was getting to see the places I had heard about but never seen -- old pre-flood Faultline, and the original Rikti Crash Site.

I'd like to thank you for sharing the LRT glitch with us, Codewalker. I used it over on Beta to demo fly-thrus for Old Faultline and the Ritki Crash Site. Good times. Glad I did it over there, though--put a copy of my main into the PDP, but it timed out every time I tried to long in with him. Had the same happen to a second character I ported in there.

Any you, of all people, shouldn't be intimidated by vet players. As someone who followed the game for a year or two before beta, I'm sheepish about pigg-diving in the same files frequented by the Codewalker. ;D

However, I have a demo file recorded during the Winter Event at the D.  Same map name, but when I play that back, I get the ski chalet

You entered a cave that was iced over on the inside. You could slide all around in it, and there was an awesome blue bloom effect in the whole cave (with fog too, if I'm not mistaken). From the door you'd go maybe 200 feet to an ice wall with a female figure carved into it. You'd destroy the ice wall and wave after wave of ambushes (redcaps and tuatha) would come at you from beyond it.
Am I the only one who remembers this mission? At the time there were several missions that added blue, pink, and other bloom hues to the whole map that made them really stand out.

I don't know the mission, but I suspect it might have been the baby new year map with a strategically placed destructable door/wall that had hitpoints, which means you would need both the map and the object.  Ideally someone has the demorecord (I'm betting Chaos ex Machina might since he was inventorying it all) since that would be a bit easier than trying to place the door maually.

Nope, not even close to the BNY map. Kinda like frosted up tuatha caves - 2 large round cave-lobbies right after each other, just inside the door. After which was the ice wall/door/thing. It broke in stages like a bank vault door and was the same size as one. It was elevated on a stage like it would be a backdrop for an altar. A VERY unique map.
I'll bet there was some original fog effect to go with it too. The whole map seemed to glow (And yes, I was totally sober when I ran it  ;D).

I'll bug Chaos and see if he knows about it. If so, I'm posting screenshots to vindicate my sanity!

Leandro posted the solution for that problem you have with Pocket D, I'm pretty sure.

The DYNGROUPS DYNARRAY command takes care of the visibility of layers. If you want the Ski Chalet to show up in a Pocket D demo, add it near the beginning of the demo, after the "Time" command:

Since the rest of the map is your standard Longbow base, I've just focused on this room. I edited my demo down to just the room where you deliver harsh vigilante justice to Frostfire. I've put the doors on the cells, replaced the SEQ computers with the destructible models, and left in the fireworks that take out the cell doors about 10 seconds in. So, you guys ready to really be mad?

Remember a while back one of the devs (WW I think) was talking about a new office tileset? One that looked more like an actual office rather than the architectural disaster that is the current set of "office" maps. On the savecoh channel on Nov 30, whichever dev it was lamented that they didn't think it was in the beta build yet so we'd never get to see it.

Well, they weren't wrong, there are no new office maps in the last beta build. However, I did some digging, and some of the pieces of them are there -- the chunks that the actual maps are built out of. As it turns out, not only is the geometry there, but so are the textures, and what's there is quite finished.

Since I've been working a little with Leandro on map editing (he has a very ambitious project that I won't spoil for you guys, but I think you'll like it), I decided to try my hand at putting some of these pieces back together again so we could get a peek at them. I've got a very simple map built to show off the tileset.

I'm sorry to ask a stupid question, but what is the actual map name? Is it possible to load it in Icon?

1. Download that linked file and put it in your beta/pigg folder.

2. Go into Icon 1.5

3. jump to maps/OfficeTest.txt by pasting that string into the box after hitting F1

4. Hit F3 to edit position and put in: 0 18 -100 into the xyz coordinates.

Finally got I24 reloaded and figured out how to use the maps, way fun, though sadly incomplete with everything empty. Still though, thank you very much for the opportunity to fly over the city again!

Quick question - is there a way to load a functioning "Holiday Rocket Pack" (Jingle-Jet?) while in the Ski Chalet map?

Sure.

1. Make a costume in the character creator.
2. Save the costume to a file.
3. Open the .costume file in a text editor (Notepad is fine). It will be in your COH install directory under a "costumes" subfolder.
4. Find the 12th CostumePart section. You can make it easier by picking one of the backpacks in the character creator and looking for something that looks like it, or just count sections.
5. Replace it with this:

Thanks, Codewalker.  I managed to alter the costume file correctly, and to load it in the character creator - but the character creator wouldn't let me proceed, stating it was missing a couple of the shoulder features.

Since it would have only been cosmetic anyway (no chiming music or snowflakes), I'm fine with just sticking with flight.  But thanks for the info.

Don't load it in the costume creator. Use some other costume to get into the game (anything will do), then type in the chat box:

/loadcostume YourName

With YourName replaced with the name of the costume file that you saved / edited of course (without the .costume on the end). /loadcostume doesn't check for validity like the creator does, so you can use anything you want in the files it loads.
