"Real World Point of View"
« on: October 15, 2014, 10:13:50 PM »
Just a thought: Memory Alpha (the Star Trek wiki) has some articles designated as "Real World article (written from a Production point of view)". This makes sense for a TV show wiki that has pages for actors and writers, and behind the scenes sort of stuff.

Would a similar tag be useful for Paragon Wiki? There was a couple of pages I recall looking at that were a bit mixed up with real world stuff and in-game stuff, and I thought maybe for some articles it would be good to note that they are specifically for real world stuff, whereas everything else is in-game only.

I guess Editor's Notes cover this sort of thing pretty well, and if I remembered which article I was reading I imagine a clean up would work, but what are people's thoughts?

IMO EdNote works fine for that kind of thing.

We already have plenty of "real world" articles. A handful of quick examples:

http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Cryptic_Studios
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Statesman_(Developer)
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/City_of_Heroes_on_Linux
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/PIGG
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/City_of_Heroes_Collectible_Card_Game
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Disc_Releases
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Paragon_Market
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Player_Versus_Player_Event_Committee

So if there's an article that has lots of real-world and in-game stuff mixed together, and it would make sense to have two separate articles, I think that's fine. If it makes more sense to keep them mixed together, that's also fine. I agree that EdNote works well for that.

For articles that are fully real-world oriented, I don't really think we need a tag or banner for it. It's usually pretty clear what's real-world and what's in-game.

If we start a trend of using "FBSA" instead of "FBI" in our day-to-day correspondence, perhaps we can blur the lines enough that the tag is needed!  :P
