Reorganization!

Howdy Titanites!

As you may or may not have noticed, the forums have gone through a thorough changeup. We've moved things around, retired some things, added some things, and just generally made a nuisance of ourselves. We hadn't had a good cleanup since before the game closed, so it was long overdue! If you can't find something, speak up and someone will show you the way. Even stuff that has been hidden is still available to mods and admins, so we can go digging for a favorite thread if you like and bring it back into the light.

PLEASE NOTE: as a side-effect of retiring forums, you may notice that post counts went down, or there are missing pieces in posting histories. Posts that are affected by the retired forums are no longer counted in either process. If you're looking for a specific post or thread, feel free to PM me or Eabrace and we can bring it back for you.

Minor quirk that has always puzzled me... The "TITANNETWORK" in the upper left corner of the forums links to the forums. There are no obvious links to the Titan Network main page anywhere on the page. Every so often i forget that it links to itself and click it expecting to be taken to the main page. Then i remember and either use the bookmark or delete everything after http://www.cohtitan.com/ in the address bar and hit enter. Maybe it's just the way my brain works, but i think having take you to the main site instead of the forums makes slightly more sense.


Edit: Upper left, darnitol. LEFT. i don't even have the excuse of dyslexia. The best i can do is claim i was still drinking my first coffee and maybe distracted.

Suggestion: Make the Paragon Chat link on Cohtitan.com go here instead of where it goes currently. Too many peeps around FB etc, have already been told they can take that main link to get to the FAQ, Tequila, Rum, etc.

Woo, OK, that explains it.  I was like, "Dang, I know I don't post often, but only 4 posts?!"  Well, 5 now.

I would like to suggest a "technical issues" section of the Titan Projects forums. For example, lots of people are posting their individual difficulties in the Tequila announcement thread; I think that thread should be more informational, and that a dedicated area for tech support would help. Perhaps a separate forum for Tequila & Island Rum as well, since right now they're in the Icon section, even though they are separate programs and now work with PC as well.

Well I just noticed this as I had been living in the comics and games boards. 

I didn't think future proofing meant wholesale deletion of an entire board.  Locking and setting aside and achieving it is one thing but tossing years of posting history into the bit bucket is another.  With the destruction of Massively's archives with the exception of posts from staffers that moved to Engadget the history of our attempts to support the game post announcement are now lost.

If we can't even preserve our own history who will?

I am quite angry now.

Despite the hysterical tone and lack of reading comprehension, you make a sound point. I made the Save Paragon City forum publicly-viewable again, though it's still read only. It can be found in the "Graveyard" section at the bottom of the page.

Delete ... hide, same difference to us since we can't access them.  Are we ashamed of what we said during our attempts to save the game?  Are they Harry Potter under the stairs now?  Going Mr. Norrell on us?

As I said, you want to reorg, no problem.  You don't want old infrequently commented boards front and center then make an archive section at the bottem, place them there with all threads locked so they can still be referenced.

A) Because they're hidden. B) Because posts that are in the Graveyard don't count toward post count. Both of those questions are answered in the first damn post, FatherXmas.

If you're not going to read the post, you need to back off. Being unreasonably combative without even reading the post is completely unnecessary.

I read the post.  There is no difference in my mind.  You, meaning those involved in running these sites, decided to hide some unpleasant history of these forums.  And since we can't search and it's not like we kept our own records of the thread names it puts us at a disadvantage at requesting their release.  I'm old, I rely on search on forums to dredge up my post history to find threads long forgotten.

I was simply shocked to discover this got done when I went to post in one of those long running threads only to not be able to find it and then discover what happened.  I apologize but I don't remember this ever being done on such a wholesale way on a private fan site.  It seemed to "corporate" of an action and I was taken aback by the turn.

And please don't fire back until I'm finished with my post.  I've lost too many posts so I tend to post something short and then go back and edit on serious topics.

I had not seen your post when I went back to edit it.  I commonly hit post and then immediately hit edit.  Writing isn't a strong suit.  It takes me some time, more so since the stroke, to express myself properly in text.

And why be hostile toward me?  I have no power here, you have it all.  Have we clashed in the past?  I certainly don't hold a grudge against you and I hope you realize that my comments were directed at the decision and not you personally.

You introduced the hostility to this thread. Instead of pointing out the valid concerns you had in a calm and reasonable way, you lashed out in anger.

We're volunteers. We like helping people. But if you abuse that by lashing out at us, you don't get to then turn around and question why we're hostile. Maybe we should be perfect and respond to everything in a calm and reasonable way, but sometimes we're human and unreasonable attitudes tick us off.

Where did you get the idea we were trying to hide "unpleasant history"? As Eabrace notes, the idea was to reduce clutter -- not hide skeletons.

And please don't fire back until I'm finished with my post.  I've lost too many posts so I tend to post something short and then go back and edit on serious topics.

If you post it, it's fair game for someone to reply to. It's your responsibility to make sure your posts represent you well, not someone else's.

If you're worried about losing content, use Google Docs. It autosaves on every keystroke. Then copy-and-paste your post back when you're done.

I didn't think my original post was hostile or hysterical, I was simply voicing my feeling about what I saw as a lost of our history in trying to save the game.  First Massively which gave us the most extensive coverage was now gone and then I notice the loss here so yes I became upset.  What I did not expect was a RTFP as the official response to my concerns (I know it didn't say that but that was how I read it), I did not see yours Sekoia at the time and if I did I probably wouldn't have responded at all as yours was the kind of calm response I expected.

But I didn't and was upset by Aggelakis's original reply so I fired back both barrels.  But once I read what I wrote I decided my response was overly hostile, which is out of character for me, so I went back and edited it.  I did NOT see Aggelakis's response to that original post in 36pt red type at that time.  The edit was not an attempt to make Aggelakis look like a bad guy but to take my reply down several notches.  I simply don't expect a response within a minute of me hitting post on these forums, ever.  The threads I had been involved in recently normally aren't near real-time conversations.

And then things escalated.  Honestly I still hadn't seen your post after Aggelakis's until I started to read this post.  So instead of seeing this as a way to clean up an infrequently used board I started to rationalize more nefarious reasons and voiced those theories, which oddly was the opposite to what I did on that board back then as I tried to defuse wild theories and preached calm response.

Again, I'm sorry for my actions and truly appreciate the addition of the graveyard.  I hope we can put this and my shameful behavior behind us.
