I don't remember the name of the new PVE queues... but, the one with Chekov's voice....? Why no Chekov?? They have Scotty with no Scotty voice (luv ya, R.I.P.) and Chekov's voice with no Chekov.

Oh, and, Chekov Voice! I thought that was cool, Missed it the first time, somehow. He did his own voice nicely, I thought. Well read. If that was not Chekov voice I heard then someone did a great job of it.

Effing patches.....!!

Good Lord...

The only reason I've been able to keep up with them until now is ... I'm not playing. I just keep imagining this Winter when I normally look forward to having more playtime...and having no bandwidth to play with.

Blah  : /

I'm finally starting to get halfway good at this game but these patches stress me. Yay that they are making the updates, I know....

Ah well..

Thanks..

Now I don't have to go kick a kitten. In my mind.

Back in my day we used to type programs into our computers from printouts in magazines.  I dunno about you, but my typing speed doesn't quite make it to 300 baud.

Baud rate isn't the problem it's wireless data limits. And weekly 1 GIG update totals. Bleh.

I spend a multiplicative amount of bandwidth downloading patches vs. actually playing, with STO. Every single month.

I can't see myself playing STO this winter  : / Gaming is pretty much 99% of my indoor entertainment and my work is mostly seasonal.

I'm even having a hard time downloading this latest patch.

Life goes on, huh  : )

STO free, possibly  : / Why torture myself.

When you consider that back then most games came on < one disk and that one disk was 360k.... 300bps wasn't sooo bad. For downloading patches. It could download those ascii bbs menus well enough... line by line.. hehe

Back then smaller was better. The smaller, more efficient your code, the more elegant it was. Now we have dvd's and broadband and multi-core processors and video cards that cost and compute as much as a pc. Bloat that code!

No laptop, otherwise that would probably solve all my bandwidth probs. The only thing you can leach from where I sit is maybe squirrel gossip.

Pokemon Wha...? *snicker*

This is one thing I like about CO's compiler. They can have a '500 meg' update but I only download 100meg. In STO a '500 meg' update is > a 300 mb dl.

To make things even more entertaining I don't have a meter on my exact usage anymore. (Don't ask...)

But I haven't been online so much so I figured, why not download the patch. May as well play while I can. At the end of it I got dinged with a 'you have used 90% of your data' message from my ISP. Yes, this is the first and only message I get from them now. Usage resets next Tuesday.

The next big patch they have is probly going to be my last. Even when my meter was working I had a hard time staying within data limits with the barrage of multi 100 meg downloads that STO likes to lay down. Matter of fact I feel dumb for downloading this one. I was kinda looking forward to playing with more than 10% of my bandwidth this weekend. My situation is so screwed up I don't even know if I'm sharing my bandwidth so I probly should turn off Internet pictures and just stick to checking the mail for the next few days.

Lord.

I keep clicking my heels but here I stay..

I've heard of bad ISP caps, but this is the first time I've heard of an ISP that appears to charge by the electron.

Now that I think of it, who knows when they dinged me with the message. I got it at the end of the download but there are delays, ya know. So, pretty much I'm done playing online until next Wednesday at which time I guess I will be in CO. (Edit: due to it's the only other game I've downloaded and am playing, and, I know I can play, when I play CO, and really, I just want to play. Something. Online. That I can download and yeah the good ftp is important too, I'm a dirt poor bastard in the making for some years now. Many will not be able to relate).

Such a great decision it was to download that 750+ mb patch! My last. Had too many STO weekends like this already. What a drag! I was really enjoying this game.

Ah well, have fun. Carry on. Sorry to interrupt. (edit: rly! hehe)

550 meg patch day.. *stomachgurgle*

Well, I just couldn't go cold turkey.. Having too much fun. I just made a GREAT newb, too.. (Screenie, inc.. eventually).

This doesn't have to be black and white with the STO playing.. Up until now I've managed, barely. Soooo I could play for just two weeks a month, for example, and all my woes would probably go away.

CO could be my fix for the other two weeks to get me through the month of renting cyberspace.

Two weeks STOing is better than nothing!

STO doesn't use much data outside of teamplay. Doffing, tradeskilling, Fleet stuff, all use relatively tiny amounts of data, Teamplay isn't so bad either. Those patches are what's killing me. I have to find a way to get them from another source and then all should be golden.

I suppose you could find someone that plays STO, wait for them to patch, xcopy their STO directory to an external hard drive, and manually sneaker-net the updated game client back home.

Although now you have me wondering what's the most expedient way to get game patches on limited bandwidth.

Specializations: Strategist vs. Intelligence Officer
Context: Space oriented dps

Thoughts..?

I like the defense bonus from Intelligence Officer and the tier 4 shield/armor pen. I like about everything from Strategist to some degree. They came out with Strategist after I put 6 points into Intelligence Officer otherwise had I started playing a little later, I may have gone Strategist. Still not so late to swap.. Nothing says I can't eventually get both, and use what I want when I want, either.

I've got time to think about it. I'm a few skill points away from maxing my active secondary Specialization. So I thought, hey, why not see if there was any kind of strong opinion towards one or the other..

You can choice both, as a primary and secondary. I do agree with you though Intel. has some nice bonus'

My main has strategist as a secondary, and if I recall correctly it can *only* be activated as a secondary.  So even if you like Strategist, you still have to pick a primary to go along.

I've been playing long enough to pretty much have everything unlocked on my main (except for temporal, because that just came out), but I'm currently running Command/Strategist.  I used to run Intel/* because I liked Intel, I'm only running Command as a primary because it was the last one I fully unlocked and played around with.  I'm actually thinking of going Temporal/Strategist, because I'm liking some of the stuff I see there (and I have about 20 spec points to burn on unlocking it at the moment).

For example, if you're currently getting blown up a lot in Advanced queues like Crystalline Entity, I wonder how well Continuity will work out for you.  Continuity is the tier 4 Temporal ability that causes you to be teleported out of danger and drop all aggro if you drop below 10% hull.  Sort of like an Omega-13.

,,,Does it matter which specialization is Primary or Secondary? I see there are bonuses for the different Specializations being 'Active' but I don't see any advantage to having a Specialization as Primary vs. Secondary. Now that you mention it, I had forgotten Strategist is Secondary only.

Pilot is my current choice as Secondary and I've almost maxed it out. I worked on it first due to it seemed to be the best fit for this toon (Tactical) and his Escort. Finally got shield scraping which gives me a great excuse to sideswipe..

I could use some more survivability as a priority, and moar dps is always nice.. This is what made me think Strategist (+ Pilot).

Intel is a nice bang for the buck for only spending 5 points in it so far (I thought it was 6) but the rest of the trees in it aren't super exciting except for that tier 4 shield/armor pen.
