I have to re-run house of Pegh and I will soon enough due to that nice reward if nothing else. The Iconians seemed to talk less, and impose more. Wouldn't mention it if I didn't learn there was a different author. The whole series is good I just thought the Iconians seemed scarier and more mysterious earlier on which is what made the cowardly lion turning into the inspiration of his people (instead of what could have happened...ha!) all the more impressive. *shrug* Maybe I was just in the mood for a good surprise ending that delivered..

Iconians just seemed to talk too much after that.... explaining their feelings and situation just a lil too much vs. being this mysterious power... maybe it's just me.

Time to try some Future Proof(?). Lucky me, it's all been new to me. I still have Rom and Klingon mishes to do too neener neener!  : )

Hey I'm no Siskel and Ebert.. I'm not savoring all the nuances. I spacebar through lots of stuff.. They have to work to get my attention long enough to tell me a story. So far, so good. My frustration level has been pretty low throughout, too.

~~~~~
Ooops! duh.. I hadn't done the Iconian War Finale. Nice movie : ) Decent set gear rewards. I snagged and am using the Space Trait for now.
Bad Rom man-chick, bad! But there's still time for her to change her ways according to the prompts I had available  : D Nice job on the Iconian city. I'm glad they turned out to be mostly nice folks at heart. Watch out for Lefty, tho!
What kind of ships do Klingons and Roms have?
I want another Escort type ship and was thinking maybe there was something similar in a Klingon or Rom flavor. The Klingon ship I flew in a recent Fed mish seemed Escorty but that was a mish ship *shrug*.
Do Klingons/Roms have anything that's significantly different from Feds?
Romulans use a completely different warp drive, instead of warp cores they use singularities.  So there's a gear difference when it comes to starships: you cannot slot warp cores you have to slot singularity cores.  But there's also an ability difference.  Romulan warships have special singularity powers that you charge up by attacking and then can discharge when you have enough power.  One of the abilities fires a shockwave that is basically a PBAoE around your ship, another buffs weapon damage for a short time.  It is vaguely like charging up Domination, but you can choose different effects.
Romulans also by default have cloaking devices that have special properties; in particular you have a damage buff as you come out of cloak and you can recloak while in combat (this kind of cloak is, I believe, called a battle cloak to distinguish from other less versatile cloaks).
Romulans also have interesting signature ships; specifically the Scimitar class ship is supposed to be an offensive monster (i.e. the Romulan weapon from the movie Star Trek Nemesis).
Klingon ships I think are less distinct from Federation ships than Romulans, although there are some differences.  Their battle cruisers in particular I think are a bit tougher.  But they aren't a radically different kind of starship like the Romulans.
I deleted the tutorial mish (that I was in the middle of..) for my Klingon, thinking I could just start up wherever else I wanted. Also thinking, hey, they wouldn't let me delete this mish if something bad would happen.
Now he seems perma on The Edge of Klingon Space..
So I made a Rom... T'hee (Formal name: MR. Higgle Giggles)
As soon as I could I went directly to the first Shipyard to check out t5 ships but I didn't gather the info you gave me.. That makes it more interesting. He stays. On the surface, the ships look pretty similar to Fed flavors. I'll have to play T'hee some more! I'll see if I can do anything with that cloak.. I'm already kinda enjoying pbao'ing so that part interests me.
There's not nearly as many Roms or Klingons as Feds.. Besides pvp, does this ever matter?
Oh hey! Chekov makes a comeback at the end of Future Proof, I didn't know that. And jerky face - SPOILER - (Daniels) spaceplants  : (
----
Had to add... I didn't finish the final Future Proof mish yet, soo.... maybe things turn out different for ^.
Oh! And! .. Why don't I ever use the wiki? Good question. (A good question because the wiki is visually kinda awesome, so, why not use it?) The answer is, due to they pump out tons of data. Tons. I can play in PVE's and use less bandwidth. It does look nice and nicely organized from what I saw of it.
I'm not sure if this is sufficiently helpful, but one thing you could try is to browse STOWiki (and for that matter lots of other things) using Chrome and its text mode extension (just search "chrome text mode").  When you activate that extension, the browser stops downloading or rendering graphics, flash, and plugins, and just puts big empty boxes where they would be.  I just tried to browse STOWiki with it on, and if I switch from white background to black background (right click the big T for options) the site *seems* to be basically readable.  This may significantly reduce the amount of bandwidth you use even in day to day browsing.  Since we've established you are paying by the bit, this might help in other areas as well.
'By the bit'... hehe.
I should do that. I've gotten to where I don't switch browsers anymore but I probably should. IE has an option to not download pictures or sound that keeps me from having 30 meg downloads whenever I check the weather but ever since I mentioned that option here those switches don't work anymore in Outlook to block ads and they never worked with STOwiki that I remember.
Down to the wire again this month. I stopped getting messages telling me how much data I use a couple of months ago (they still ping me at 90% usage..) but if my math & record keeping is decent I should be running out soon.
This isn't anywhere near the most ridiculous thing in my life at this time....  : ) But it's another thing I won't miss about this period.
Thanks for the tip. I (should) might try it next cycle. My normal surfing does OK with those IE switches but it would be nice to use the wiki.
I think it was the right time for me to try a Rom.. So far I am liking them anyway. I guess I have to delete my Gorn and start over to try Klingons due to the being stuck thing and no slots left. I just didn't want to lose his costume but I want to try those fast ships - my newb one was fast anyway.
Man, here is a newb tip worth repeating: Check what battle mode you are in - in Space..
Smitty was getting to the point that I wanted to tweak his dps because it just wasn't there. 'Oh hey, what's THIS button'.. *foreheadslap*
I can't tell you what mode he's been in up until now. None were highlighted. All of his stats shot up when I hit Attack(mode)... He's level 55 .. *whistle*
*eyeroll*
I'm not a Cruiser guy anyway, I think. They are cool (they must be decent, I got to 55 modeless and didn't even realize..) and I'll still level/play mine but I think I'm more Escorty.
Anyway... yeah... check your Battle mode... newbs...
Think I goofed again. Why did I pick Fed alignment? I'll get Fed mishes(?)... the same prices for Doffs...
There's fewer KDF fleets, but... so?
: /
I'm gonna reroll. May as well see how the other half lives finally, too.
*sigh*
Ah well.. I was only lvl 12 and just now thought to start crafting purple newbie gear so I wasn't too deep in..
I re-rerolled but used a different slot. Kinda missed my old name (New name T'hee D'snicker'r was just too long). Deleted them both. Rerolled again...
On my 3rd go I decided to tradeskill twink with all Plasma including Ground weapons but excluding torpedoes. And I'm going to choose KDF due mainly to I haven't before.
I have a good feeling about Rom ships. Do Klingons get anything cool at all like the Rom pbaoe? Or are they Roms sans pbaoe? Rom dps seems to favor beams over cannons at this point but *shrug*
Instinct said go Antiproton but Plasma seemed themey for Roms and I haven't tried Plasma yet.
Well, T'hee (KDF) is going to have to work harder for his Fleet Marks due to no fast Fed Fleet Alert queues but oh well.
I really like my Rom ship already. They look good, have a built in toy, decent dps and maneuverability. And.. *shrug* cloak..
Speed. That's what Klingons have. I just browsed their ships last night but I saw some fast ones in there. Have to try that for sure..
So, from a dps perspective, Feds have cannons, Roms have Singularity, Klingons have speed. And, KDF Fleet mark only queues are barren. Is what I've learned so far this past week.
My Rom newb mishes are bugging but are still decent although not overly exciting so far but the new ships more than make up for that. I can see 3 main alts coming out of what I've seen from playing this past week or so. Can't get enough playtime lately... Just too fun.
As far as not being in a battle mode in Space.. I think this happens when you first get a new ship? Maybe you're in some mode but it's not highlighted. I noticed it again last night. Then I hit Attack (mode) and watched my stats shoot up.
I think you are referring to energy balance.  You can balance energy between shields, weapons, auxiliary, and engines.  There are presets that prioritize shields and weapons, just engines, and a couple of other versions, or you can fine tune them yourself (which I never do).  The amount of power you divert to those systems affects you in obvious ways - more power to engines means you are faster, more power to shields means they regenerate faster - but power to weapons is singularly important.  The way energy weapons (but not torpedos) work is that the more weapon power you have at the instant you fire, the more damage you do, and it is a big difference.  "Base damage" is when your weapon power is at 50%.  At 100% your weapons are doing twice the damage.  Depending on ship and equipment you can often go past 100%, to something like 125%.  At that point, you are doing 250% of base damage.  That's like the difference between totally unslotted City of Heroes attacks and almost fully slotted attacks.
There's the complexity of the fact that actually firing weapons drops weapon power for a brief time, so the actual damage you pump out is a complex varying thing, but weapon power is something you should in general always have set to maximum when in space combat.  The interesting exception is the torpedo boat.  Some players deliberately put nothing but torpedoes, or nearly all torpedos, into a ship and then specifically build to optimize that.  It is not easy - think a petless mastermind in terms of how odd it is - but it has some very interesting advantages when you can make it work.  Consider that if you have all torpedoes, you don't need weapon power at all.  And that means all that power can be diverted to shields and engines.  Or if you are using exotic powers, shields and auxilliary (aux power affects things like, say, gravity wells).  A ship running with maximum shields and auxilliary that drops a super-strength gravity well that sucks everything into a tight space and then unleashes a chained sequence of AoE torpedoes on that spot can be devastating.  If you can make it work.
I was about to start up some more Rom mishes when I felt (punished..) compelled to mention how much I don't like them. I would say that I don't like them equal to the amount that I *did* like doing Fed mishes with Smitty.
Tasha Yar is the shining star of Romville so far. That mish where she makes you do evil stuff (that I think I dropped.. Borg implants? nahhh), she just seemed into. At least they have her to kinda 3d things up.
Those AoY mishes, although few, are pretty good newbie mishes. I'm really glad we have (more of?) those sound effects in game now too. Every time they fire off I smile at least a little bit. Now we're playing Star Trek! I'm thinking... ha. I want allllll tos sound effects plx.
Anyway... back to the mines... *kawhip!*
LOL!
thanks.
I don't know what to suggest other than shared bank slots and the EC cap raise. If you're going to be subbed then you don't need either of those. Haven't really shopped much beyond that.
I can think of 2 of my toons I would get 400 extra Doff slots for,
I saw a level 20 ship in the shipyard earlier when I was leveling that I could buy for like 200 zen that I would probably snag if I had zen to burn just due to it has 1 extra Boff slot and 1 extra Console too I think vs. the freebie.
Hrrrm I have to look what else's for sale that I would buy if I could.
A T6 for sure if I saw one that said Buy Me. I would definitely snag a T6 or two..
---
On second thought.. I don't know if I would get all those Doff slots or not. My eyes glazed over the first time I saw them for sale when I first started playing (I can buy WHAT??) but now I am wondering what I would do with them all. I 'only' have 100 per toon now and half of them or so are still not purple on my tradeskiller. How long would it take me to get 1000 purples on the two toons I mentioned...
I would surely snag a T6 ship if I saw one I liked, though, May as well be all you can be. I would max everything with slots, too.. Banks, bags, whatever. If I had infinite Zen I'd grab everything from ToS, too. And XP boosters. Those things are expensive in STO...
What else... hmmm...
