There was a major bug in the PS4 version (and, I think, the Xbox1 version) where every character was inadvertently marked as being from the other faction.  It took them nearly two days to figure out what was wrong and fix it.

So I couldn't complete or even start my KDF missions, because the game thought I was with Starfleet.  I got Starfleet missions, but unless they auto-completed immediately (like the "Promotion" ones), I couldn't do those either.  I couldn't even beam down to Qo'noS (I'd beam in, and immediately be beamed out again), nor could I beam down to Earth Spacedock (the option didn't appear).  Currently, I have an auto-completed Starfleet mission that I can't turn in.

They didn't even run an update to mess it up.  It was a maintenance that did it.  Then, when they finally figured out what was wrong, the game had to download a full 1GB+ update to fix it.

It's working now, though (I spent a good portion of the day yesterday playing it), and I'm now the very model of a modern Major General.  Or maybe Lieutenant General.

I'm kinda sorry I didn't choose a Carrier for my T5 ship.

Now I'm level 51, and for some reason, the missions have gotten a lot longer but are awarding me only half the amount of XP they used to (10k vs. 20k).  Instead of gaining one or even two levels after every mission, it's taking me three to five missions to gain one level (and those missions are very long, taking a half-hour to an hour each due to being composed of literally dozens of steps).

I also can't seem to figure out where to see how many XP my captain needs to level.  I found it once by accident, but I can't seem to find it again, or the list of what perks you get at various levels (which was in the same place).

Nor does "Scan area" ever reveal elements I can pick up.

The PS4 version is also missing the Foundry and Duty Officer missions, which is disappointing.

Edit: After three missions, I went from level 51 to... still level 51.  Yeah, leveling has become a LOT slower.

Pffft my notifications for this thread aren't... notifying.

I dunno about the PS4 version but in the PC version, XP vastly slows at level 50.

The best way I found to XP, as a person who likes Space battle and doesn't mind grinding to get his levels, is to instance hop. I picked a part of the map in the Beta sector that seemed to have the easiest/best XP random space battle ..thing.. and if it wasn't up, I would instance hop until I found it.

The idea is to park yourself next to where a 'Random' space battle will always randomly occur on the map and instance hop until it pops and then run the thing and collect your XP.

For spice, always run Borg Red Alerts when they pop. Borg cubes can cough up 1k+ xp if you can solo them. This Alert is probably the best xp in the game but it has a cooldown of course and sometimes you'll pop in right as it is ending.

I don't think the Tholian Red Alurt is as good and don't even bother with Temporal Mauraders unless you just haven't been frustrated or wasted your time in the recent past and would like a good opportunity to do so. TM can just drag out foreeeeever in a too low level team (which I invaaaaariably end up in when I'm trying to xp) and nearly every time at least one person will bail without a word before it's over. I shred it in my level 60, geared, repped and spec'd out Escort and it's an easy way to farm any rep I want - it's not been good for leveling, though..

There are some mishes that give items that are just nice to have. I sprinkle those in as I level.

I was getting into full time mishing there for awhile but then I started breaking them over and over and over again so I stopped. Plus, the Rom mishes kinda turned me off. I'm really really glad I ran the AoY and further Fed mishes before making a Rom. That, was actually fun. But I still couldn't make it to 60 just by mishing. I went to the grind..

You may as well queue up for all the bonus Rep you can handle when you log on, too. That rep can really help out, and, the queues not only have other people to play with in them but they give that XP.

Would be my tips.

My Warbird finally made it to 60 this way. It wasn't too bad. But yeah, it's a definite gear change after level 50. Things move lots slower.

Good time to get started on that Rep (if you can already..) and get that out of the way for the buffs and gear. Not a bad time to start stocking up on Fleet Marks either if you can do that for Trait slots and extremely nice gap filling gear.

That sucks that there's no Doff mishes!

I think the main reason the CoH foundry was so successful was that it was highly farmable. (I didn't mind fighting huge crowds of sexah mobs, either...). Errr.. I mean... Some of the mishes had nice themes, too..

I just don't see those rewards in STO's foundry and I think this is one reason why it seems to be a lot less popular than CoH's was. I personally wouldn't miss it and never have used it since I first started playing and just wanted to run annnny mish.

There are farmable missions in the foundry, but you have to hunt for them and I haven't in a while.  But there are people who make, say, missions that just spawn a megaton of high value ships in basically ambush waves and if you have the moxie to take them down the XP, and more specifically the drop rate, can be very good.  As in CoH, the actual value of individual kills is not bad, but what usually makes progress slow is that you are only fighting a few, or even one at a time, and there's significant time in between fights.  Farmable CoH missions tended to have giant swarms of herdable critters.  Herding is not as profitable (or survivable) in STO, but having waves of attackers is the STO analogy.  At a rapid clip, fighting a lot of "boss" ships can rack up a lot.

Also, I don't think people even tend to farm XP per se.  Once you reach 50 (or 52 really, to unlock stuff) getting higher XP is not as valuable as getting a lot of EC, dilithium, and valuable drops.  60 doesn't unlock as much as 50 did in CoH.

Megatons... Ambush... Farmable.. STO...?

Huh. Go figure.

I thought Foundry mishes were all kinda long and drawn out Space/Ground combo Sagas that went mainly unused and didn't reward anything special. You have supremely piqued my interest.

My interest needed a good piquing in general.. thanks.

The final Starship and Ground Trait slots are unlockable at 60. This is the main thing I wanted when I was grinding out my last levels and it's not That big of a deal that it makes the grind that urgent. My dps/survivability Feeels stronger at 60... And I of course must be 60 if it's a toon I like. But yeah, the Trait slot thing is the only tangible thing that comes to mind about dinging 60. Before that the most important stuff to me is Admiralty and Rep which is well before the main grind to 60.

Well, I have to try the Foundry out again... I could seriously get into some shades of CoH farming. I loved the CoH Foundry and playing the market. Right up to the last days when it was in Frenzy. I made a fortune.. Spent it.. Made more!  : ) *bzzzt* then they unplugged us  : / They actually, really did it.. And it's STILL unplugged.. Actually, really, still. Crazy world.

Anyway...  : ) thx for the tip & sorry about your PS4 growing pains TG. The PC version didn't have Doffs originally either. I dunno about the Foundry.

I don't like to go on about patch sizes, but, I will.....

I had to download 520 meg, for ... this?

https://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/10201933

Seriously..

I just updated my CO client earlier this week. Since I last logged on they have added a sluuuuue of powers and power changes and A...Whole...New...Zone.. and whatever else. I downloaded like... oh... just over 100 meg?

These patches are going to be the death of my STO career. Patches! Sheesh. I don't even want to Guess how much they are going to try and shove at me when that update on the 25th hits.

I must be the only wireless STO player. Who else would waste 2 gig+ every month just Updating A Game Client.

So.... after stomping off in my virtual huff over my crummy Internet situation I tried some Foundry mishes.. At first I thought I found a whole new world but even before my smile could fade... so did my xp! I got maybe.... 30k max?

Ah well, it sure looked like the Foundry was going to be my new home there for awhile!

They could make some of those contacts easier to find, too...  "A potted plant next to some npc in all of Starfleet Command that you will never find" type stuff.. oi..

I never did get the hang of the Foundry as far as getting XP.

So, I decided to kit out my Escort. The result's a mish mosh of Rep/Fleet/Mish gear that I'm pretty happy with. Nothing storebought is left. Some of my Fleet stuff I really like, some Rep stuff I like, and a mish that I would recommend checking out is Stormbound from the Future Proof series. It's level 60. The pieces are nice, the bonuses are nice, and the mish is pretty nice too - mostly Space battle and the Ground stuff goes fast. Just thought I'd pass that along since I like my (2) pieces from it so much and the mish is nice to run too. I have a good Admiralty ship named after a ship in the Mish... not sure if I got that from the mish or somewhere else.. The first time I ran it was awhile back.

If I could customize difficulty to press the limits of my build while farming phat lewts/Spec xp I think I would be spending a lot of time in the Foundry. The material seems to be there but it's either broken or I don't know how to use it.

Sooooooo you think we're going to get a gig's worth of patches in the next two days? Then another gig at the end of next week?

Even if we don't I'm tired of stressing it. I am totally enjoying the game but it's sucking all of my Internet.

I leveled a Warbird and (almost...) a Cruiser just to confirm I was happy with what I already had...  : ) That was a tough first toon to level! Tactical/Escort. Tactical/Cruiser was a cake walk in comparison and Engineer/Warbird *seemed* downright OP but I prefer my Tactical/Escort at 60. I didn't make any Science builds... That was going to be next.

I have to think about these next patches. The game is being a lot of fun but they just shove too much data at me. Blood Moon is going on in CO, which I neeever miss, and I can't even keep my CO client up to date lately.

Lawdy...

I just have to ask...

Did anyone download the latest patch yet and how big is it to download, actually?

I actually managed to save up 2 gig of data this month, which, is phenoooomenal for me, but then I (finally steel myself and) log into a .... 4 gig Patch?

Holy geez, now I know who owns the Internet.

You know, even Microsoft can manage to patch an entire operating system for a full year for under that.

lol..

Anyway, actual number, please? I just want to consider my options, and thanks..

The update looks very nice btw and so do the disrupters.

I downloaded it and logged in, it is around 4 gig to 8 not really sure though. It shouldn't be the patch you should worry about, it is the graphic, it will make the original NES games look like a PS4 game.
One day the Phoenix will rise again.

Tyvm. Had to check, ya know. Thanks for All the helps and adviceses.

Very fun game. Great theme. STO feels very Space Game and is an excellent example of this gem of a genre that is one of my all time favorites. it's equally good to see Star Trek getting luv and living on and I'm glad I got in on part of the 50th anniversary experience.

Holy cow do I have withdrawals already...!

I started this game with a barely functional mouse and a screen the size of my behind and now .... I'm in techno heaven and I can't download the dang patches. This is the time of year for me to play, too. Monsoon season.

I've been trying to get back into CO and there is plenty going on but I've been unable to find the old magic up to this point. They even managed to screw up Athletics (<3) while I was away by giving even newbie zone mobs Nailed To The Ground - which pretty much does what it sounds like. It's like they've gone down a checklist since I left "Xev used to like This, that's next".

Miss you, MegaPatches Online!

Well, I'm having weird issues of my own.  Somehow, STO causes my TV to shut off, and it won't turn back on until I shut the TV entirely off (rather than putting it on standby) and wait a few minutes before turning it back on.  No other game does that, just STO.  It's something about the cutscenes in particular that does it.

So, once again, I'm STO-less.

Sucks, huh!

I'm really looking forward to seeing the updated graphics and playing with an unbroken mouse for the first time. I was like 100k XP to get the last Pilot spec point needed for Pedal to the Metal II.. finally. Got a promotion from the first Fleet I joined just ... because. I thought that was nice of them. They had those disrupters up for grabs that I missed! And some more TOS material.

I felt dumb for not downloading 2 gig of that 4 gig patch that kicked me out of STO last month when I had the data. I saved up nearly 2 gig again this month but then when I thought how they patch 400 meg+ weekly and I've already missed a few patches all I could do is picture that guy pushing the rock nonstop up the hill.

This is a very fun space game. I'm glad I got to play when I did, during the 50th anniversary stuff. If I had to choose that would have been my choice of when to play and I'm glad I got in on some of it.

Santa did a neat trick and showed the patcher how to slide a months old 4 gig update (so, add some 400 meg+ updates to that too I would imagine) down my 2 gig chimney. Matter of fact he only needed 1.5.

I was then left with Too Much Internet on my last day of billing which led to panic and then gaming frenzy.

It's been so long since I've seen a graphics update attempted for a game I can't even tell you what kind of game it was. Is it me or do graphics updates never seem to work so well? It's probably me. Anyway, yeah. The STO graphics update was pretty successful, huh? I was perfectly happy with how my space battles looked already but they did manage to kick things up a notch AND they didn't even up the system requirements as far as I can tell. I still have everything cranked up on *pats luvingly* Old Bessie and it runs smooth as silk.

Anyway, yay. : )

So, I probably never had to stop playing. Or the download has somehow drastically shrunk (Santa).

I'm glad for how things turned out. I was really into STO and would not have gone back to CO anytime soon. Had I not been forced to either play CO or nothing at all, basically, I probably would not have *stuck* with playing CO long enough to .... forgive it. Which would have been a shame.

I'm still in my 'main' Fleet! That's cool. Made sure to contribute so they know I'm alive and maybe I don't get kicked for awhile. Wolf Pack is a good Fleet for me and the U.S.S. Arrewww.

I don't know how much STO I'm going to be playing in 17' but I know I'm going to keep saving up for a new ship. I think that's where I'm hitting the wall right now on my main. I hope, anyway. My gear and specs seem almost as good as I can get them and I'm happy with my Boff abilities. Normal queues usually seem too easy but Advanced queues are still making me explode too much, basically.

Awwww we have to sit in a queue for Borg Red Alerts now.. I always liked being able to pop right into them whenever they were available. Oh well. Probably works out better for the newbs that used to unwittingly pop in there solo and be real unhappy with the results.

I got the impression inactive people were getting kicked from Fleets if space was needed and I also got the impression Fleets were always needing space, so, it's probly a good idea to at least log in long enough to contribute to something or say hi.
