I can't even get into Earth Spacedock.  My main is a Klingon...  And accepting the first blind invite I was offered was how I got into this mess of a Fleet in the first place.  Dropped out of it now, though, once I was sure I'd keep my Fleet Credits.  Maybe I'll get more blind invites next time I'm hanging around Qo'noS.

Hit up the "CoX" channel (case sensitive) on chat.  Someone will let you into Paragon Expeditionary Fleet or Paragon Vanguard Fleet, and we can help you. (Used to be Paragon Fleet, but the original owners fell silent.  Expeditionary filled so fast, Vanguard was made for alts and new folks.)

Others:
Task Force Fenrir
Virinat Detachment
Paragon Dawn
(They have a website: paragondawn.com to gain entry to their SG, I think they have a group in STO too.)

All of the above are ex-CoH players, and would love to have another veteran among their ranks.

I'm also playing on the PS4, since they discontinued the Mac version last year.  Are those groups also on that version?

After additional reading, I just learned that PS4/XBox players and PC players are "firewalled" apart.  There's no LTS/Subscriptions possible on Console servers, and I don't see it explicitly spelled out, but it seems there's also no way for us to talk to console players if we're on different servers.

Damn.  That sucks.  I'm sorry, Thunder Glove.  :(

I made a few other characters, one of whom is a Romulan.

Interesting that it's pretty much analogous to City of Heroes - Starfleet is Blueside, Klingon is Redside, and Romulan is Praetorian (where you start out on a third side, but eventually have to choose Blue or Red).  I think even the colors are the same.

Frankly, I'm not sure which side to pick.  Maybe I'll just quit playing that character for a bit until I decide. :D

Yeah, huh!

Ouch... I dunno what it's like on Console, but, I had a more difficult time getting into a KDF fleet. And it is the least impressive one I'm in. Console... Klingon.. You started the game on Hard Mode! Some good battle hardening. Starting as a more difficult for beginners Klingon, and, the I-was-there-firstness of Console.

You'd think from all my complaining that I'm not enjoying the game.  I am really enjoying it, more than any other MMO I've played since CoH went down.  Just some of the more esoteric ways to get more powerful ships and other items are frustrating at times.  And this topic is as good a place as any to vent :D

Still coming down from the Obelisk Carrier high, I checked the exchange to see if there were any there, and I instead wound up buying the Mirror Universe Vo'Quv Carrier, which was going for surprisingly cheap - only 190k - so I figured it was worth the risk to buy it.  (Now that I remembered that the Tour The Galaxy daily mission exists, 190k is pocket change) It feels a lot sturdier than the Battlecruiser I was using, with a higher base hull, an extra Science console slot (in which I put a +Max Shields console), and the launched ships acting as distractions.  Unfortunately, it's also T5 and can't be upgraded to T5-U, either.

There's a bunch of them on the Exchange for 200k-ish (which is a pittance compared to the tens or even hundreds of millions other ships on the Exchange go for), not just the one I bought, so I imagine it's not in high demand.  Maybe it's that abysmal turn radius.  Or maybe not a lot of people play Klingons.  Or maybe the ship is just old and everyone who wants one already has one.  But I still like it a lot.  I'd meant to try out a Carrier earlier, but I didn't have a chance until now.

It sounds like you're on your way, to me. I started off with Exchange T5's too. I know of (1) T5-U on the PC Exchange (dunno Console prices.. they sound like they're pretty decent if you got a 200k T5..) and I think I got for under 2 million. It's a Carrier. It's boxy. But the overall shape of a smallish box seems to make it turn easier than other Carriers and I like it. I'll have to look up the name and see if Klingons can pilot it.

There's plenty of Zone auctions for Fleet members on PC in Beta quadrant. Not as many KDF Fleet auctions, but there's enough of them. I should probably swap fleets with my Rom but I haven't been playing him much anyway. Not because he's Rom, just been more focused on other toons.

I wrote a post that I need to re-read, on ship pricing.. I can't remember right now how much more a Fleet T6 is than an Exchange T5-U. I've barely played anything this week. Big new irrigation project for a neighbor has kinda wiped me out.

(Now that I remembered that the Tour The Galaxy daily mission exists, 190k is pocket change)

190k is pocket change... hehe. Yeah, sounds like you're progressing. Wait... How much does that thing payoff, anyway!? I never bothered with it. I know a lot of other players do because they want that buff that makes them travel faster for running it.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll be rolling my guy tonight.

Oh hey btw... I might be able to shoot you some newb gear and/or a Fleet Invite if either of those things would be handy. @toonsquad. I'm so used to TG being on Console... I didn't even think to offer until now.

Wait... wha? That's CHEAP! It's 4.5 *million* on PC....

I found that T5-U... But it doesn't say who can fly it in the description and I gave it to one of my Fed toons so I dunno if KDF can fly it but on the Exchange it's called .. APU Cruiser, and, on PC it sells for half what your Vo'Quv goes for.

~~~~~
Also.. The Starship Upgrade modules to make a T5-U upgradeable ship into a T5-U cost 15 million on PC.. I think the cost for a Fleet T6 ends up at ~ 60 million on PC after buying Fleet Ship modules.
There's some more expensive Mirror Carriers in the Exchange - they start at around 200k, go up to 500k, and then there's a huge gap before you hit the ones that are tens of millions.
And the Fleet Ship Modules on PS4 are ridiculously expensive.  I'm in a new Fleet, an active one with T2 and T3 buildings, and I have more than enough Fleet Marks and Credits to buy any ship I want... but no Modules.  And they cost 70 million and up in the Exchange.
2 out of three.  Romulan Republic is "Greenside". :D
Yeah, there's also the TOS Federation, which appears to literally be Goldside, but they likewise just get shunted into the regular Federation storylines, without even being given the choice the Romulans get.  My Federation character is actually from there (and I refuse to change him out of the 23rd Century uniform, even if some NPCs were giving me weird looks and wondering where the costume party was).
I technically have one character in each faction, but my Blueside character (a Ferengi) is on the PC version, which I can no longer play.
The cheapest T5's on PC are ~ 2 million. You might want to look up Starship Upgrade Modules (pretty sure that's it..) on the Exchange and see how much they are. One of them + that APU Cruiser = a T5-U.
Something uber about T5's being so cheap for you, is... they can be fairly decent Admiralty ships. You get them for next to nothing.
In my limited ship buying experience... T5 buying was worth it for the experience, and, I could fly something I picked. The T5-U was worth it (it cost me ~ 17 million, total). And now I have little desire for anything but Z-store T6's. There is at least 1 Fleet T6 I'm considering. I don't even consider the lockbox ships. They aren't out of my reach but on PC they are 125 million++ And... bind to Character.
I don't have the game open in front of me to check right now, but I'm pretty sure that everything is more expensive than you're describing on the PS4 Exchange, except for that one ship.
Edit: I checked.  Fleet Ship Modules start at 7.5 million.  Upgrade modules start at 5.5 million.  The cheapest APU Cruiser is 1.4 million, but most are 2 million and over (which means that 1.4 million one will probably be gone before I have 1.4 million).  T6s ship start at 58 million and rise dramatically from there.  So I guess things are a little cheaper, but I also don't have that sort of money to toss around yet.
Basically, getting that one ship for so cheap was an aberration, not the normal prices of ships on the PS4 Exchange.  Even now, the cheapest Vo'Quv is 300k, and prices are rising.
... also, though, I've gotten hooked on Carriers.  I don't just want any old T6 now, I want a T6 Carrier. :D
That's more than a Little cheaper.
You can get a T5-U for Half the price of what it cost on PC.
You can get a Fleet T6 for Half the price (!)...
Your Exchange T6's are Half...
I have alts that can buy Fleet T6's at that price.
It seems we've discovered a console gem.
... holy crap, someone put an APU Cruiser on the Exchange for 100,000 EC.  I snagged it.
I'm honestly not sure whether I should unpack it or put it back on the exchange for 2 million.
I think I'm just going to hold onto it for a little while to see whether the person who sold it put it up at that price by mistake.
The only way I'd not unpack it is if you couldn't use it. I'm not sure if KDF can. Most ships say who can use it but that one doesn't and I know Fed can.
That's as good a ship as I know of that you can get before a T6 without spending zen. The Zen T5's are T5-U upgradeable I think. But if you're gonna spend Zen, why not save for a T6. If the looks don't turn you off it's a pretty decent little ship.
Having said all that...
... holy crap, someone put an APU Cruiser on the Exchange for 100,000 EC.  I snagged it.
Holy Cow!
You might have gotten a Mistype Sale. I've gotten some good ones of those..., but, I get the feeling ships are just cheaper on Console. Even at 1,000,000 that's a good price on PC.
If I knew for sure I could use it I'd open it - especially if I was in Cruiser mode. Just be prepared to pilot a flying box with lights. That turns pretty decent, I thought.
According to the STO Wiki (and the fact that non-Klingon ships don't show up on the Exchange unless I specifically turn off "show only usable", and I didn't turn that off), I can use it on my Klingon (it's cross-faction), so I might just unpack it after all, if only to give it a spin.
But, holy crap again:  when I switched to my Fed character and checked the Exchange, I found a bunch of Mirror Universe Advanced Escorts and Mirror Universe Patrol Escorts for 150k-ish.  I bought one of each. o_O  He's only Level 20 so he can't even unpack them yet, but ... yeah, going to have to give those a spin when I can.  (In this case, I *did* turn off "show only usable", otherwise no ships show up at all for him)
The T5-U will give you more hull, shield, and some Masteries to gain as you 'level the ship up' .. iirc..
Oh yeah.. you still have to buy the upgrade module to upgrade it! Well... at 100k... you can at least see how it drives first.
All ships your toons own are/will be Admiralty ships. Pretty nice for the prices you're paying.
I can't imagine you getting the Ship any cheaper!
A few more chores to do and then it's Bonus Marks time. There's a Featured story coming up... after the next patch? Those tend to have nice newb gear that levels with you. There was a recent one that had Uber ground gear. I've not been playing enough lately to remember the name of it. Good stats and Stealths you and give you +runspeed when you take damage. The mish is pretty decent to run/re-run too.
If you don't mind/like tradeskilling I hope you're raising one of your R&D schools on a regular basis. It takes forever to get started but tradeskilling can help pay for stuff. It pays to check the market before raising a school so you can get an idea of what you might sell.
I always raise 1 school to 5 that can make Weapons or Aux batteries and usually follow that up with raising Shields up so I can make my own shield batteries. I started with someone that can make hull patches, too. Then, just pick a school to raise to 20 and check the market for what to sell. Your Fleet's Research Lab may help. The tier 3's have a Daily that gives like 6 - 9k (depending on buffs and if you crit) of R&D XP in whatever school you choose every 20 hours - along with some components and dil.
Yeah, there's also the TOS Federation, which appears to literally be Goldside, but they likewise just get shunted into the regular Federation storylines, without even being given the choice the Romulans get.  My Federation character is actually from there (and I refuse to change him out of the 23rd Century uniform, even if some NPCs were giving me weird looks and wondering where the costume party was).
Yup, blueside with a different tutorial, more or less.  That, and I like the teleport and scan animations better for 23rd Century characters, which is thankfully permanent. :)  The "23rd Century" styled Tier 3-6 ships to me are kind of bleh looks-wise, but that is more opinion than anything.  I'm sure someone liked them.
Still, opens up possibilities for other sub-factions.  Maybe we could play as someone from the Orion Syndicate, who is shunted to the Klingon storyline... now that would be a hell of an intro.  Or maybe as a Reman, who has the same choice to make at Level 10 like a Romulan Republic character.  After the changes to the Romulan storyline, I wouldn't mind a little more of Obisek's story.
Tried out the APU, and ... kinda regretting not selling it for 2 million instead of opening it.  I mean, yeah, it's a good ship, but I like my Vo'Quv a lot better.  It will be good for Admirality missions, of course.
