I'm long since past wanting the Obelisk Carrier (which doesn't cost Dil at all, but Fleet Modules and Fleet Credits - I have loads of Fleet Credits, but no Modules), since I have my T6 Jem'Hadar Dreadnought Carrier, and I'm working on unlocking its Traits, so there's no rush to get him other T6s right now.  In fact, I was kinda over the Obelisk when I bought the Mirror Vo'Quv Carrier, which has only slightly lower stats but better Hangar pets.

I spent most of today on my Romulan, getting the last few (hundred thousand) ECs I needed to buy a Ship Upgrade from the Exchange, and that really boosted her survivability, thanks to an eleven-thousand-point jump in the ship's base Hull (and that's before the buffs from my skills, traits, and gear passives).  The extra Tac Console slot and the new Traits are nice for the DPS, too.  I'll probably eventually get her a T6 Warbird (I'm thinking about the Jhu'ael, but that can wait.  Frankly, getting the Vonph for my Klingon is still a higher priority, though neither is a top priority

Now that I'll finally be able to start seriously playing my Vulcan again, I'll have to start looking at T5-U Science ships for him to replace whatever freebie I get at level 40.  (I know you don't have to match ship to career, but it amuses me to do so)

I started another Fed character, a Benzite, but I haven't even gotten him through the first Academy mission yet.  I was going to remake my Ferenghi from the Mac version, but changed my mind at the last second.  Considering deleting him and making a Gorn instead.  (Or not deleting him and making a Gorn as my final character)

The Doff boosting requires spending Dil that .... I don't have.  Oh, I *make* a good amount of it, but I trade it for Zen constantly.

I've watched some YouTube videos, but mostly to drool over the Vonph in action.  Most of my info I'm getting from the STO Wiki and the STO Builds Reddit.  (What I really need to do is consolidate my weapons so that they're all doing the same type of damage, and then equip a Tac Console that boosts that type of damage)

So a sincere thanks for the advice, but I think you're about... two pages too late :D

Another  easy way to make EC is to sell doffs  on the exchange. There are a few doff missions that can reward you with additional  doffs which can be exchanged  for 3 doffs of a lower tier. 1 very rare doff an make 27 common doffs, rare doffs can make 9 common doffs  and 1 uncommon  doff can make 3 common. The common  doffs are used  for Fleet projects  and sell pretty  quick.
You can also do the Lore daily  on Star fleet Academy  or the Klingon Academy  for 480 dil which takes about 20 seconds  to do if you go to the STO GAMEPEDIA  website. Just Google  STO Gamepedia  Lore and  it'll  lead to the  correct page with all the answers for the daily  quiz. There's  also a lot of good information  there.

Everyone has their own secret for becoming rich in STO. TG has his ship flopping & Tours of the Galaxy and.., I have my tradeskilling, Fleet mates are making a mint from doing Ground Elites... And so on.

STO's a rich game. No Pun intended, but I'll take credit for it  : )

On the subject of farming... Farming seems to be my Summer playstyle. Winter can hopefully be the time to play with new toys.

I've got a bigillion Phoenix tokens, a T6 token is waiting for me that I haven't even decided which ship to choose from it yet, and I just cha-chinged enough Zen to get another (when on sale..) C/Z store ship that I haven't decided on yet. Oh yeah (edit..), there's also at least 1 Fleet T6 that I want to try and I could get like 6 Fleet T6's right now if I wanted.

Dunno when I'll play with any of the new toys, maybe not until Winter. Gonna farm some more, tonite. Make some newb gear.. The newb gear thing makes me feel like I'm contributing to the game, somehow.. as well as making some EC's.

With Nimbus III unbugged, my Vulcan is finally level 40, and has several Tier 5 Mirror Universe ships that I picked up for super-cheap  some weeks back.  They were 150k at the time, but the price has jumped up considerably since then.  None of them are upgradable to T5-U, so I plan to only use the free Science Vessel, but the two Mirror Escorts and the Mirror Star Cruiser will help with Admirality missions when those unlock.  Or if I want a change of pace.

I realized that a game I've been looking forward to for quite a while finally releases tomorrow, so I may get distracted from STO for a while.  Probably not forever, though.

(The game is called West of Loathing, a single-player follow-up but not-really-a-sequel to the long-running online game Kingdom of Loathing.  I'm buying it sight unseen, based on the strength of KoL and their other game, Word Realms, which I love. And, yes, this is a bit of Buzz Marketing for all three games, as Judge John Hodgman would say.  In fact, John Hodgman appears as a powerful optional boss in the original Kingdom of Loathing, and an optional costume for the main character in Word Realms.  Anyway, back to STO discussion!  And playing!)

I never expect to stay with the game I'm currently playing. This is probably enhanced by the fact that I started out in the 'golden age' of PC gaming, when, your gaming PC was obsolete in months and nearly useless by the end of a year, and when games were aplenty, and, is probably further augmented by the fact that I used to give a lot of gaming reviews in my job therefore I felt it my duty to try and play every game that hit the shelves where I worked, therefore, I learned PC gaming by playing tons of games. My goal was to try and tear through a respectable amount of most new games in a weekend's time and my weekends could basically occur every 3 days due to work was just a place to pick up new games (..and paycheck) and talk about the ones I just finished playing..

There's games I know I'll always come back to (CO...STO...), but, I never expect to stay full time with any one game for all eternity.

A new PhysX is here! A new PhysX is here! (no, it's not suuuuuper new)

I have no idea what this means (yes, my Google works) but this rarely gets an update when Nvidia video drivers get updated.

I'm always crossing my fingers for a PhysX update, though! I mean come on... It has PHYS.... and an X... It must be good. And I'm always hoping that a video card driver update actually makes some kind of noticeable change. I think I got both today.

Wheeee back into Space. And not as a trader.

Either it's been too long or that video driver update really was a decent one or the last patch was good or... some combo of the previous or maybe just a whole other thing, like, aliens lasered the video game perception part of my brain. Nooooo wait, I know there is something different because the paintjob on my Iconian geared ship looks a little different. The Borg Sphere's seem more 3d..

*shrug*!

I read a dissertation in Zone once that Advanced queue's aren't worth it. I have to disagree. If your ship can handle them to the point where they are fun to run, they give like 720 dil and a component to turn in for even more dil or for Rep gear. A lot of people are trying to get Rep gear. So, when you run an Advanced queue you're probably helping at least 1 person in the team get some endgame type gear and you are doing some fine gear or Dil farming for yourself. Good stuff.

I like running queue's, in general. Ever since CoH invented the modern queue. I liked CoH queues... A lot of people playing CoH, didn't - just like a lot of people playing CO look down on them. STO's attitude towards queue's seems to be fairly neutral.

Oh hey, there is a featured article in the PC launcher about a player that's so famous for giving build advice that his name made it into the launcher. If I read it right, his main ship is an... APU...! lol.. go figure. He surely must be talking about another APU than the one we know. Seems like the build advice guru would have a top of the line hotrod as his main!

Well, the game I got turned out to be a lot shorter than I thought it was going to be - I bought it on Thursday night, beat it yesterday, and started and finished a second playthrough (as a different class) today.

And the Mirror Universe event is running on the console version for the next three weeks (it started on Thursday, actually), and I definitely want to do that.  If nothing else, the reward of 30,000 dil is too good to pass up.

So I'm not out yet.

So I'm not out yet.

I'll take the company!

IRL is taking most of my mind and body energy lately. I put a lot of effort into IRL and am really glad for the chance to play and am grateful for all that my toon has to be thankful for but I do feel like I'm really sucking at it lately. Have an LTS, though, and the thing requires I log in daily no matter how bad I am at playing it. Lately I can never seem to get logged off and even when I do I'm all distracted in my other games.

Think I'm going to get some character slots when they go on sale again. At least 2. I have no Cruiser captain! Cruisers are fun and I could get an uber one or two I just don't happen to have a cruiser captain ever since I retconned mine into a Sci ship cap'n.  I want to eventually look at some Birds of Prey, too, due to I haven't flown any of those outside of a couple of newb ships from when I first started playing.

Sure don't need another dil/zen/EC farmer.. Could probably spend an entire play day farming with the toons I already have. Seems like I do that a lot already!

Ok, so.. STO Ground isn't the most fluid and graceful ground combat around, but, it's not so bad and this Event can be fun. Just don't be like me and decide 'hey, I want to try this before I grab my pillow for the night'.

54 rounds later....

54!

That, was fairly epic.

It hasn't reached consoles yet, it appears.

I'm not a huge fan of ground combat, particularly on console.  (I enjoyed it a lot more on PC)  I tend to use more turrets and drones than real strategy.

... that includes Universal Kit turrets and drones for my non-Engineering characters.

This week I've actually been focused mostly on non-video-gamey stuff.  I play a tabletop RPG called Scion (where you play as the son or daughter of a god), and in our last session our characters got a huge boost in power (going from Heroes to Demigods), with includes an entire set of eleven personalized "spells" (for lack of a better term) we have to create from scratch, so I've been doing that all week in my free time.

I'm still making sure to do my Daily Mirror Invasion, though.

I've pretty much came outright and posted I don't like STO ground combat, more than a few times, right from the beginning, as I remember. It's just so clunky.. And then I was mobbed by people posting that was the only reason they played STO was for the Ground combat and I was like wha...

And then I got in a Fleet that was nonstop trying to get me in Ground Elite's and I was like wha... Maybe it *is* just me... I honestly thought that everyone who played STO played it for the Space stuff and that I was being Punk'd by anyone saying otherwise.

Anyway, yeah. I don't recommend trying the untimed version of Sompek...on a whim...for the first time...minutes before you'd like to be getting ready for bed. 54 effing rounds! lol. and they can even go for twice that long or more..

... that includes Universal Kit turrets and drones for my non-Engineering characters.

Universal who's? There's Universal Kit stuff? I paid a mint for some Tac stuff last night that fairly well sucks. Under my use. Plasma Grenades? These, I like.

That was a good tip! Two of my best ground Kit Modules are now Universal (epic, mk xiv). I dunno why I didn't imagine that since ships get Universal mods, why not ground Kits.

More EC's to the wind. And Phoenix upgrade kits. Outside of Sompek, and the occasional mish, I don't see doing much Ground. But.. I do see myself playing a lot of STO. Soooooo... Why not upgrade at least 1 toon. I upgraded his gear to mk xiv, too, it's good enough.

The thing that is getting me killed, now, (duh), is I have no Specialization points in *anything* Ground. I do just happen to be at the point where I have to choose Ground skills to get a Starship Trait I want upgraded, so.. there's that. My 'Ground toon' (which should be my Andorian! but I picked Xev..) was just about to run out of things to spend Space Spec points on, and he's my main, so, he's a valid choice as my (first?) Ground guy.

Here would be My more random STO tip of the day. That maybe everyone knows already. I just found out that we get 40 slots on the Exchange to sell stuff in. I also just found out that any mail that the Exchange sends back to you with an Attachment (item was unsold and returned) shares those slots. So, for every mail you have from the Exchange with a returned item in it - that's one less slot for you to sell something on the Exchange. If you have 10 mails from the Exchange, you have 30 sell slots - otherwise if you have no mail from the Exchange, you have 40 slots to sell stuff in. For example.

One of the best and simplist STO updates to date -- Now, when looting after a PVE queue.. it tells you right there in the loot window which choice will give Bonus Marks and which won't.

I've been running PVE's with my Rom ever since he got his Epic mk xiv Omni (plus, he's the Dil poorest) and now it's super simple what marks to choose afterwards.

I didn't realize the PC version didn't have that.  The Console version has had that since I started doing PvE Queues.

I'm a little disappointed - I got my Vulcan up to level 50, which means he can do PvE Queues now, but I got him there just a little too late to get the rewards from the current event.  (He can only do, at most, 11 of the 14 days required).  Unless the console shows up on the Reclaim tab, he's out of luck for that (and he's definitely out of luck for the 30,000 dil).

The change is so sensible I didn't even notice it at first.

I was 'a little disappointed' when I passed up at least 1 or 2 really nice looking Event T6's.. (The Dorito ship! And I had just gotten into Sci ships..) I have enough T6's to keep me (me, as in, The Easily Amused) busy for awhile, now, though.

Dil is easier. If I sacrifice a significant portion of a regular play session I can come up with my 40k for the Day. As in: I don't have to log in and grind my brains out for it, but, if I want to max out my refined Dil for the day I do have to devote a significant portion of a not eyebrow raising, timewise, play session, to do so.

Assuming it's an account-wide reward, that is.  I have the Prolonged Engagement weapons on all my characters, but nothing else.  Yet.

Edit: Having gotten my Vulcan to 60 (by doing the daily, no less), I remember one big reason I love my Klingon...

Rom Level 60: Fleet Admiral
Fed Level 60: Fleet Admiral
KDF Level 60: Dahar Master
