That Romulan Tour is actually fairly decent. I don't have to be in my best ship, so, it's a good chance to work on Starship Traits. The XP per second is on par with RA: Borg and there is no wait time, and, due to if I don't collect your rewards at the end of the Patrol mishes and instead do another run and then collect *2* rewards... I can get 20 Romulan marks in the same time or less as I can get 10 in a RA: Borg.

So, all in all, fairly decent. The Patrols are varied so that it's not the same thing every time and I can queue up for other stuff in the meanwhile (RA: Tzenkethi, Swarm.. whatever). 1 of the Patrols goes by super fast - it's the one with all the dialog - just skip the dialog and then there's a 1 minute battle. *cha-ching* 2k+ xp and 10 Romulan marks x2. Other Patrols in this tour are more XP, btw - like 4 - 5k. None are quicker, though.

I plan to Rom XP Tour with my next newb(s).

Speaking of Swarm... Swarm: Revisited. This is a great queue for Fleet Marks. 100+ per run? It has no cooldown and pops fairly fast. Run it when CC is on cooldown... pick up that 720 dil per run, too. Fun to run FaW in a high(ish..) dps build in this queue and pick the Swarmers off of people fleeing for their lives (not that I know that that is what they are doing from first hand experience or anything.. *whistle*)...lol

As you may have guessed, since there are Marks involved, you can't do the Rom tour until you're high enough level to be in the Rep system (50?). Which I think sucks but oh well.

I've finally got a tank build worth keeping! Hurrah! I mean... it's been a long time coming. Still have 20 levels to slog through to 65 but it's been a fun slog, even in that freebie COW I flew to level 40 from 30. Man I was cursing that thing but I didn't explode in it and was pulling agro off of lvl 65 Tac Escorts with my Reman Eng in it, which, is more than I can say for my previous tank attempts, and, kept the cow cursing to a minimum.

Well over a quarter billion EC in twinkage on Gar'd'n so far.. Closer to a half billion. Most of it hand-me-down Bind to Account gear.. so, that helps a lot. Took me months to gather the Boffs. And then I finally flew him directly onto the shelf. But he's back! With a fun vengeance. I can tell this build is a keeper. Finally.

I'm going to make a healer toon! In STO?? Yes. Why? Because I can. And haven't, yet. : ) That'll be awhile, though.

You know what's funny is I have an urge to pass on all this newb knowledge, like it's some huge helpful thing, but compared to a lot of people in the game I don't know a thing. I've been playing fairly regularly for, it must be, ~ 3 years now. Maybe I'm just that slow! Could very well be... *epiphany's*

Dang I thought we were getting another new queue but it's just a limited time thing:
https://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/10963943

It's not as good as the last 3 new queues so I'm kinda glad it's not a new permanent RA but while it's here, it's like running RA: Tzenkethi in both time and reward. That, is a good queue - as are all the new queues. Swarm is probably my favorite new queue. Romulan Minefield is by far the one I'm most thankful for. *ding* *ding* *ding* and my feet never touch the ground except to occasionally collect rewards.

That Elachi queue was funner when I got the hang of it

Am up to 10 lvl 65's now..

(1) torps (2) exotic (1) exotic/torps (3) beams (3) cannons

(3) FaW w/Trait (so it permas) agro-the-entire-map-and-can-(usually)-live-through-its

(3) Rapid Fire/Scatter Volley shred macheens.

(8 ) dps
(1) Reman/Eng/Beams tank
(1) Mostly abandoned human tank w/beams

(1) Andorian (4) humans (4) Roms (1) Reman

(5) main alts - (4) Rom (1) Reman

(1) Poppa toon. Has all Specializations but sits at the Research Lab Exchange as my #1 tradeskiller and 1st toon and first toon in a Fleet, that, he's still in. He's human or I'd still fly him - otherwise, he's perfect. Tac/Cannons/Escort. All Specs/Rep maxed.. and a million Fleet marks.

Toon #11 is a Rom/Tac that I'd planned to make Cannons/Escort. Then I got this healer idea... Then I saw that with 3 toons (2 now, finally maxed Gamma..) going through the Rep system there was no time to level another newb.. I'm not sure what I want him to be. I'm leaning back towards tac/cannons/escort.

Well, for reasons unknown, my data limited data has been getting drained. Hopefully it was due to my now hopefully spambot unhacked Internet Mail account. Yesterday I was keeping a fairly good eye on Network Activity and didn't see anything unusual but then when I looked at my usage, today, 3 Gigs had *poofed* from yesterday. Should have been closer to maybe 300 megs. Soooo, not playing so much STO for awhile...

One small update on the Romulan Tour from above. It really is a good way to get Starship Masteries. You don't need to have nearly as good of gear to get through the patrol mishes as you do, queues. So, like a recent situation I was in, I didn't have good consoles to fill all the slots of the ship I was in and I didn't really want to fly the ship I was getting the Mastery from in a queue either, so, Patrols worked out pretty great.

No queue wait times, either, just take a short flight from planet to planet and start pew-pewing.

Another fairly important note is that I found out that it doesn't matter at all what your Ending XP is for completing the Patrol Mish when it comes to Starship Masteries. What matters, is the XP you get inside the Patrol. The ending xp has no effect on your Starship Mastery XP bar.

A related note on end rewards is that Patrol Mishes have cooldowns of 30 mins. If you don't collect the reward at the end... the cooldown doesn't start. What this means in our situation is that you can find a Patrol that has lots of mobs... and run it repeatedly for Mastery XP until the you-must-choose-a-reward timer expires. At that point you have collected a reward and the cooldown starts. You get 2 end rewards in the end if you do this, too - the auto chosen one and a 'buffered' one.

You can also... run a Patrol Mish twice, don't collect the first end reward, collect 2 rewards after you finish the Patrol mish for the second time, and then go to the next planet in the patrol.. Then you get two end rewards (Marks, Dil, Toon/Spec XP) for the travel of one. End XP ranges from ~ 2k to 6k+ per run with an XP booster. 12 Rom marks with a Booster.. and a small Dil reward. 240? 480? All x2

Someone is hacking my Wi-Fi!

I saw over 400 megs poof yesterday when all I did was send a mail, check weather, and post here. Today I didn't even turn my PC on except when it woke me up this morning due to it comes on by itself. I turned it off and have been doing chores and watching the modem in the meanwhile.

~ noon my usage was completely reset. I thought, hurrah, maybe Verizon found their mistake! Then, my old usage number came back up plus, possibly, a few megs or so - maybe not. I could be wrong. Anyway.. Then.. between 4:00 and 5:00 (maybe 4:20?) I get dinged for 420 megs and I haven't turned my PC on once since very early this morning..!

Nice, huh? This is a pretty unlikely area, I thought, to see that kind of thievery. I wonder if the ISP itself isn't getting hacked. I had that happen the one and only other time I had metered Internet and all his customers got charged for it, for months, before the guy who was the local ISP figured out *he* was getting hacked. Somehow.

Anyway. Blah. I have one of those accounts now that won't charge me for going over my limit, but... I share this account and apparently there is a per-device data limit - any device that goes over the limit throttles allll devices on the account. Which isn't going to make me very popular. Especially if it starts to be a regular occurrence.

I'm just glad it wasn't my PC! I was locked out of my ancient Internet e-mail account recently and my backup account, too. And then my data (monthly data limit data before throttlation) starts poofing.. So, I'm glad it's not someone using my PC to spam ... spam. It's someone hacking this modem - or, they are hacking Verizon. Either way, they ain't hacking me personally, apparently, so that's good. I've not been doing anything even remotely high risk except using the STO (black data hole of the cyberverse) wiki..

Good news is, CO plays perfectly, throttled, the last time I checked and STO doesn't play so bad either. Mostly it's just extended load times and exponentially extended patch times. haven't got throttled yet but it looks to be guaranteed to happen.

It's easy to avoid the new CC DT (Death Touch) in a Pilot escort. Just be ~ 6 - 9 km away from your target and when the absorption phase is about to end - tap Pilot Maneuvers to go backwards 5km.

In a Miracle Worker cowbird... Well.. I'll have to get back to you on that.  So far I've been employing the crawl-away-early-or-explode method.

I've been wondering: Is there a difference between a game (such as STO or CO) installed from a commercial disk, and the same game downloaded from Arc or Steam? I mean, does Arc/Steam add anything of theirs to the software - launcher, data collection, anything - that you don't have when installing from a bought DVD?

I definitely don't recommend using Arc. Tried it once for some reason. I've got no hard data or facts - it just triggers my Hinky-Alert fairly hard. I run the client directly via a desktop shortcut due to I want to click and then have STO simply load and run. Same story with CO. I downloaded both directly from PWE but it's been years ago so I dunno how the download works, now, but it was pretty straightforward when I downloaded.

After a year or two or so of effort I finally managed to get an invite into DPS 30,000 - the Bronze.... channel. The DPS League is pretty cool. Kinda mysterious. Huuuuuuge ranking lists, of which, I think my best placing is ~ 2,000,001th.

Just in case you don't know about the DPS League... You can google them and download their parser and then run the Infected Space Advanced queue, parse your run, and upload it directly from the same parser you parsed yourself with.

There's a DPS 10,000 - 30,000 - 50,000... and I dunno what else. Based on your parse, you'll get an automatic invite into the appropriate channel. It's pretty easy to get into DPS 10,000. The DPS channels I'm in are well populated with knowledgeable players and the parsing is a fun minigame. Often there is someone in ISA teams that'll parse for you if you don't want to do it.

If the plain files were still downloadable, I'd do so, and write them onto a CD/DVD to preserve them for future use. I hated it when I was forced to accept NCSoft's launcher. I don't know how it happened this way, but, after installing the launcher, I was still able to run Guild Wars I independently of it, and I definitely did so. I don't like the feeling that Steam, Arc, NCSoft, etc., might be keeping tabs on my game play.

I forget exactly how the install worked but Arc was already around when I downloaded CO and STO last.

I do remember what I did in the end. I just ferreted out the .exe (Star Trek Online.exe - Champions Online.exe) and made a shortcut to it. This made my installs exactly like they were pre-Arc. I think I then un-installed Arc due to I think it made me install something in Windows to get the game clients installed..

It wasn't a very memorable event, apparently. I do remember that I didn't like Arc, at all, (the idea of keeping track of friends in other games was interesting, but... Global chat channels/Friends lists do that too..) and that it was easy to bypass.

I've got no scraps of Arc left around now and my games run exactly like they did Pre-Arc. *click* ~password~ ...LOADING.

I used to run STO from Steam just to avoid Arc.  Even if it's not actively malicious (and I wouldn't swear to that), it's a resource-hog.

It does seem like more of a mining tool than anything..

I'm pretty sure you can still download both games from PWE and just uninstall Arc and then make a shortcut to run the games directly, like they did originally. I'm pretty sure I heard this advice in CO Zone fairly recently and I haven't heard/read anything about the PWE install changing since I dl'd it.

If some thought was put into it I might be able to figure out how to make an install dvd from an Arcless install and PWE download. Something along the lines of starting the install, stopping it at the point it's installed into Windows and then copying the Arcless install over.

I think you have to install Arc before the game client installs itself into Windows is the only kink.

Now here is a worthy update!

Reaching Tier V of any reputation will now automatically sponsor that reputation for your account.

They could have stopped right there and I'd have called it a worthy update but there's even more.

In addition to all of these rewards, the reputation UI will be undergoing improvements to make it clearer to understand and display the information you need in a better fashion.

Does this mean I finally don't have to rely on the STO WIKI or my cut and pasted together lists..... for STO info (like Rep set bonuses)...? on STO items... IN STO...? Geez.. I mean, really, it would be nice.. to have in-game info.... about in-game items...

Anyway, looks like a great update. That sponsorship thing was getting more and more tedious with each new Rep - was nice of them to streamline the process that they know we want to do and I'm looking forward to checking out all the rest.

Well, and they're updating the Set Bonuses/Weapon Damage.. It was getting time, I mean... I have a toon right now who is mostly in Colony/K13/Spire.. Fleet Gear and I'm looking at Rep Gear and going.. "why bother".

Different damage types available for each Rep Set...?? That's kinda huge.

It's probably a Jem thing, then. There's been no shortage.

Not to be a link spammer, and, it's not as impressive as the Rep update, which, kinda, really needed to happen the more I think about it, but... this update looks pretty decent too:

https://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/10993953

Some Klingon love and sorting of mishes. Mishes could use some luv and it's good to see them going back and ... modernizing things. I mean, it's kinda a large game so there's lots of room for things to lag behind and get jumbled.

Mishes and Rep needed some polish and yay that they get it.
