Gotham Season 3
« on: November 17, 2016, 12:30:56 AM »

Because Gotham started earlier than Supergirl Season 2 I managed to watch the first few episodes of it live. Once Supergirl started, I DVR'd Gotham to watch later.  Once I'm all caught up I'll have more comments.

But for now ...

Who's watching this season?

They totally wasted the character of Isabella.

Spoiler for Hidden:
I kept expecting it to be revealed that she was Ms. Kringle's twin sister out for revenge on Ed.

I can't see that whole plot line happening for nothing.  Not with all the unbelievable coincidences. I'm thinking Gotham's way of introducing the Lazarus pit.

This season has me convinced the writers have absolutely no idea where they want to take the show. I've been losing interest fast.

I like to see that actress turn up over and over again the rest of the season with the twist ending being that Ed never left Arkham.

Same. I've stopped watching entirely. Season 1 was great, Season 2 was okay, now they've just completely jumped the shark.

Kinda in the same boat.  I think it's just morbid curiosity at this point.

This show just keeps getting worse. It's like they were tasked with making a show similar to the successful movies but they thought that meant the Schumacher ones.

I dunno', maybe they should keep going down this Scooby Doo route? That way the series can end with Nigma shouting, "And I would've gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you pesky cops and your meddling Gordon too!".

Fox has always had an unfair expectation on it's fantasy and science fiction shows: go big or go home.  Ratings-wise, it's very safe from cancellation, but they might cancel it anyway because it's not Empire-popular.  The writers are probably pressured into attention-grabbing schemes instead of the long game.  (Same trap Agents of Shield fell into last fall with "Ghost Rider", but Agents of Shield is already syndicated, so those tactics are warranted.  Gotham is getting this treatment too early.)

Non-show minutiae follows.  Very cynical.

Spoiler for Hidden:
http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/renewcancel/cancel-bear-vs-fox-week-17-rosewoods-friday-move-doesnt-offer-a-lot-of-hope/

If this show was on the CW, they'll make it to a 4th season (2/3rds of show's futures are determined on the 2nd season renewal... most don't make it that far) maybe a 5th, because then syndication money might happen.  22 episodes a season = 88 by the end of Season 4, the bare minimum for "stripped syndication", or a deal where syndication is allowed if the showrunner can finish 100 episodes within the fifth season by a deadline.  (One possibility: CW has a DC superhero lineup.  Their local stations would enjoy adding Gotham to their weekend lineups between sports matches and news.)  But after 88-100 episodes happen, without high ratings, everything from there on is diminishing returns.

But this is Fox.  If it's not the best, they meddle until they have an excuse to cancel it.

I'm still sore about Terminator cancelling on a cliff-hanger, as it was several orders better than Gotham. Cancelling Gotham would be a mercy but I wouldn't look for that unless it moves to Friday. Given their inability to make successful new shows other than Empire and the fact that they'll already have to replace Bones next year I'm guessing we're stuck with Gotham for at least another year.

For me, Firefly (duh), Human Target (Guererro was awesome.  No, seriously.), and Almost Human.

But I'll stop there, this is about Gotham.  Enough from me.

Every one of those series' cancellations were disappointing.  The Tick, too.

Terminator was the one that most disappointed me, but that's because the world needs more Shirley Manson.  :)

Oh, the thing that annoyed me most about Human Target was the transition between season one and two. Season one ended with a big cliffhanger which was resolved in like the first 30 seconds of the second season.

Alright, I guess I derailled this.

Human Target is a prime example of Fox meddling.  Showrunner was replaced.  Moved production to Los Angeles from Vancover (where it was cheaper to make).  Fired Bear McCreary because it cost too much (which makes the prior move of the Production Unit make no sense... also Battlestar Galactica... Agents of Shield... Outlander.  Dude's got a pedigree now, so it's their loss...)

And then added women to the cast because the show was seen as 'sexist', then two thirds of the plots in the second season were rescues involving those same women adding to the sexist overtone in the first place.  (What to do this week?  Let's make Chance rescue Pucci again!)  I didn't mind Ames as much as her character was supposed to be inept as a thief learning how to be a mercenary from Guerrero.  But Pucci was grating.

I had no hope for the second season.  I watched to the end, but the cancellation did not surprise me at all.

I loved the first season of Sarah Connor Chronicles.  But the recession went down, RL problems made TV impossible... I completely missed the second season once I got back on my feet.

The Amazon series' pilot was really good, and last I heard they decided to make a full season.

Seriously?  Thank god.  Although they got the look of Tick himself wrong they got the tone perfectly which the previous live series never did.

Bring on Sewer Urchin.  Definitely bring him on.  Yeah definitely.

Oh, and Jerome is still the perfect Joker.  The show had a good and new take on where the scars came from.  Now we just need a chemical bath at some point and transformation is complete.  It will be ok if they get rid of the character by the end of the season because they are planting the seeds of all the classic villains.  They just have to avoid killing him.

Spoiler for Hidden:
My guess is that the chemical bath will happen with Penguin at Kane Chemicals.

Jerome is the Joker Gotham needs, but not the one it deserves. I really hope the actor gets more Joker roles in future Batman media.

OK season 4 doesn't deserve its own thread. Not that any of the other seasons did either, but still.

Good to see the Flash's habit of taking his mask off constantly is cross-network.

I think the big villain this season will be Selina's back-lit leg hair.

No Flash, just the mask taking off habit from Flash. And the less of this series you see the better off you are.

Yeah, his taking off his mask is just plain stupid.  And he is worse than Barry because he doesn't even try to hide his identity from the bad guys.  It's like he's wearing it as a fashion statement instead of a disguise.

I'm glad we are seeing more of Victor Zsasz this season.  As much as I liked Butch he was too good natured to be menacing.  Victor is scary.

With every season I become more and more convinced that Michelle Pfeiffer had herself cloned.  Too bad they didn't clone Michael Keaton for Bruce because that kid just plain can't act. But Jim Gordon makes up for it by overacting.

They just keep redoubling the Joel Schumakeriness every week. At this point I have to believe the producers have another project they want to get to and are trying to pull a Bialystock.

Honestly - I'd watch just to see Zsasz, that dude cracks me up everytime!

That's saying something too because normally I find him abhorrent.

That said - I really wish they'd pace the action over an entire season, rather than suffer the mad rush some of the episodes seem to be.

Gonna assume we have ivy 3.0 thanks to #2's somehow managing to have her bad acting stand out. Which on this show is a staggering accomplishment.
