Ship of Heroes
« on: August 29, 2017, 02:43:06 PM »
I checked some of the updates and fresh videos from Ship of Heroes the other day.  Man....I've just got to say....they appear to be leading all the other contenders trying to assume the mantle of CoH.  The videos of the devs playing their characters in a short mission were stunningly familiar.  They'll put a craving on ya!  Player movements, visual effects, power animations...are all comfortably familiar.

The amount of progress they've made in so short a period of time is amazing.

It really does make you homesick for a certain city in Rhode Island, doesn't it? But I really wish that people would stop playng music in the background in their videos. It distracts me from what I'm trying to watch, and I just find it to be really irritating. In the case of a gameplay sample, I'd rather hear the powers' sound effects.

Out of the contenders.. this is the only one that has not only made a public checklist of goals, but has met each and every one!  They are a spiritual successor in many ways as they all use to be avid players.  I'm excited for City of Titans... but as far as I've searched the depths of the net.. there has been no 'real' public update or announcement since IGN back in 2014... There is a certain significance in holding things close to the vest...not showing too much so that people will 'flock' to you out of pure exhilaration of shock and awe and 'finally'!  But, there is also a mainstream of followers.

Outside of the public announcements and updates. I love that they have an open donation line for people to get in escorted alpha tests.. to play with the creators and give them HARD, BRUTAL, REAL feedback of the experiences.  The alpha isn't live yet but is coming up.  I hope to save enough to donate in and get an invite.  They explain everything rather well in their forums.. so I won't spend much more time on it...

The main thing that the CEO stated that makes me excited to play is that.. at launch... they aren't gearing to people with fancy gaming rigs.  They are intending to head that direction but for people like myself with a on par Laptop.. and okay connection.. this is beautiful news!

The CEO explains his reason in an interview on youtube with PositiveGamer over a Skype.  I recommend watching

I've put in my $25 for future Beta Tester.  Hope I get a chance reasonably soon!

I will have to keep on eye on this.

Seems like COH without being COH. Even the logo is very similar.

If it keeps going like this could be the next best thing to getting the game back.

They just updated their character creator.  Just like every update to the game so far, this is a quality update.  There are no flies on this group of devs.

I'm liking the look of Ship of Heroes. The devs are communicating well and they're releasing regular videos showing off their ship, the character creator and the powers as they create them. It's early days but I'm hopeful that we'll have a good game here. I'm hopeful and confident enough to have donated to their cause - now we keep everything crossed :)

Personally, I hope all the 'spiritual successors' are successful. I think they're sufficiently different from each other for there to be room for them all.

The thing about the game that bugs me from what I've seen so far is the 'Ship' part, but it's not a very big deal

To paraphrase a certain Captain Kirk: "It has the virtue of never having been tried before."

We'll have to see how it all pans out. I suppose it does give them largely limitless possibilities for aliens as the ship visits various planets.

It looks very promising indeed. I worry that it looks too similar to City of Heroes and could attract unwanted legal attention. But I'm watching closely! It appears to be the closest thing to our beloved game.

I thought the same thing.

I admit it's caught my curiosity .. I like the basic Nemesis plot, backstory and outline of the game... I'll be keeping close tabs on this one.

Not just that, but there are plenty of "ships" in sci-fi lore that are as big as planets with an interior that replicates a planet (see last week's Orville, or last season's final Dr Who story) so there's no reason the "ship" itself can't be all types of awesome.

Of course CoH actually a space ship of sorts - remember the Storm Palace?

Ok, it didn't actually go anywhere but it could have done and the devs were working on a moonbase so you could be forgiven for thinking that CoX was expanding into space before it was cut down.

Still wish CoX had added an undersea "kingdom."  The one in Champions is fun, in a Champions Online kinda way...

or Silent Running or Starlost.

I don't see a problem with it.

Inside a ship?   So where do all those mega-blasts that miss their target end up?   Punching holes in the ship's hull somewhere else?
