Looking for a download-speed app
« on: September 01, 2017, 02:05:03 AM »
I know that there are websites to tell you your connection's general download speed. But, since the speed varies during a download, is there a program that'll show a constantly-updated speed display (like a car's speedometer) while I'm downloading something? I use the public wifi at the superkarket to get updates for Windows, games, etc. (it's about 20 times faster than my home DSL), and I'd like to know how much bandwidth others are occupying.
Linux. Because a world without walls or fences won't need Windows or Gates.

There's a Performance monitor in Windows, now.

The way you do it is in the task manager under network utilization.
Look at this screenshot

During this test I was pulling about 58-60 megabits from this internet connection.
300 megabit linkspeed to my router multiplied by 21% network usage = 63 megabits used.
This is close and in the ballpark.
The TCP/IP Protocol has some overhead though to explain the difference.

Hope that helps!
