Sharing COH with your dad sounded wonderful, Backneedle.
I grew up reading Marvel Comics, started reading them in grade school with the Fantastic Four & the X-Men. I had to walk half-a-mile to the nearest drugstore to buy them, then bring them home and sneak them in through the bedroom window to my sister, so I didn't get caught carrying them into the house!
So, when I found COH -- my first computer game ever! -- I was enchanted with the possibilities of not only creating and playing my own superheroes, but of running them with Other Players! I played with my husband at first and then also with an amazing SG on Virtue, up till the very last day, and loved every minute. The gaming community was fantastic (and I honestly think it's because they were playing heroes, and so in a way behaved like them.) I marveled at not only how creative the game itself was, but in the creativity it fostered in those who played it, in RP, in fiction and in art. It was lightning in a bottle, and I've never encountered its like again.
To this day, I grieve the loss of the game, but console myself with Paragon Chat, and am looking forward to when the successor games come out!
