Update June 18th (1.4001)
« on: June 18, 2008, 02:12:26 PM »
Automatic update should pull in a patch today which will hopefully address the majority of the issues that've been reported so far.

Hopefully, it won't introduce any new ones. :P

*sigh* autoupdate doesn't seem to be installing, I quit MHD, restart it (using MHDLoader.exe) and it goes straight into loading recipes and all that, doesn't seem to be patching anything, any way I can direct download and manually apply the update?

Uriel, Can you check a couple of things for me?

First, in the program folder, is there a file named 'mhd.mhz'? if so, what size is it?

Second, what version of the app and database does the 'About' box display?

Thirdly, is this under Linux+Wine?

yep is Linux+Wine the about box said 14.00
unfortunately, I managed to get a workaround by downloading and updating on my girlfriends Vista computer, and copying it over, so I no longer have the folder as it was,  and can't answer regarding mhd.mhz

I'm glad you managed to work around the issue. :)

If you have the same problem next time it updates, i'd appreciate if you could check the presence and size of mhd.mhz and updat.tmp, as it may help me work out what's going on with it.

Although i hope the problem doesn't occur again.

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging

For example:

<configuration>

</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Clicking Continue and/or Quit froze the Program.  Checking for Updates and/or Forcing a DB re-download (as the only 2 Update options available) both resulted in the same Error.    Without understanding the Error, I uninstalled 1.15 and installed 1.4....which apparently gave me this upon trying to load up my saved Build.

It *should* be able to load those... zip up your save folder and email it to me, and i'll see if (a) I can work out why it's not loading them and (b) if I can make it load them so they're not lost.

This wouldn't have anything to do with it would it?:

I did download the 1.4 from http://www.fusionforce.us/mhs/MidsHD14.zip, yet that doesn't say 1.4.

Either way, when I get home tonight I'll double check on all the files and send you what I've got.

Are you using MHDLoader Taz? HeroDesigner.exe caused a similar issue for me earlier this week.

To be honest I'm not entirely sure but I think I used the .exe and not the Loader.  The .exe is what I have shortcuted to my Desktop and that's what I was running at the time of getting those Errors for Updates and Load Files....so it should be set around that .exe.

However, when I manually Uninstalled 1.15 and Manually Installed MidsHD14.zip, there was the presence of the Setup.exe and an MidsHDSetup.msi, of which I installed from the .msi.  Now I am trying to recreate it at work and only the MHDLoader is present in the Installed Files...so clearly my Files at home have something more to them.

Meaning I messed up somewhere.  Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

*Edit, nope, I replicated it up to the point of the attempted Loads, cannot progress since I do not have the saved Files but I believe I know what I did wrong.  I haven't fully Updated to the 1.4001 DB at home.

The 1.3 version reported in the trace/dump is the version stored in the VersionInfo structure, which isn't actually used by the application anywhere at all. I didn't change it to match the actual version number as used by the app itself, so if 1.4 crashes, it'll report 1.3 in a trace, but it's still 1.4.

(will correct that to match in the next update, just to be tidy)

I think 1.3 will actually refuse to start if you run Hero Designer.exe and there's an update pending to be applied. It wasn't a check I added in the 1.1x versions though.
I should probably have named the main executable "Do Not Run This.exe", it'd have avoided some confusion! ;)

The install process has a minor quirk...
When you install it with the installer/MSI, it'll deposit MHDLoader.exe, zlib.dll, and MHD.MHZ in the folder.
The first time you run MHDLoader, it unpacks the MHZ file which contains all of the application files.

Give me Information.

Yup, that's exactly it.  When I first posted that I tried to replicate my actions, I didn't finish apparently (forgot).  However I edited to include my mistake.  And it's by my own force of Habit to keep using the .exe of Applications regardless of whatever Startup items are present....I don't know why it like a preset in my mind, but it is.

Installed 1.4 on my Flash Drive at work, unpacked and got all messages accordingly, this Install went perfect and works great, once I get home I simply have to run the Loader and it'll correct all my mistakes.  However, I'm still having a trouble Importing Builds, specifically from This Thread, no matter what I copy, none of that gets recognized.  I pulled it off the Forum and posted in Notepad to avoid the Smilies.  Can you attempt it and tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Good news: You're not doing anything wrong.
Bad news: The data has been corrupted.

When the forum displays the post, it goes through it and substitutes character combinations it recognises as smilies with the image.
The process of adding the smiley faces actually removes characters from the build's data chunk, corrupting it.

Often forums which allow the 'Code' tag will avoid substituting inside the code block, but if it wasn't set to use a code block when it was posted, there many not be much you can do about it.

Luckily, this forum doesn't store it corrupted, and so here's that build back in one piece:

Code: [Select]
|   Copy & Paste this data chunk into Mids' Hero Designer to view the build   |

Well I'll be, I pulled that whole thing out into Notepad, replaced the altered code from the 8), and it never worked....until you did it.  I copied your Code and it works....ridiculous!

Thanks though, at least I know it wasn't fully me that time :P.
