Use a bugzilla-type tracker..
« on: August 14, 2008, 03:44:25 AM »
hey guys - you're getting a really cool site up and coming here... so keep it up..

A separate idea for you that might help on support is..
why dont you setup/use a bugzilla-type tracker for support tickets and bugs?

There's plenty of free stuff out there that you can use, with full features, ....bugzilla, bugtracker, even sourceforge, etc..  and it would probably be a better option than tracking bugs via forums lists, which are not the best format for this.

I know you got plenty of stuff in your hands, so this is just an idea for the future, but Im guessing it would facilitate your lives a lot, and would also improve support for the site by havinga better organized tool for that..

Just 1 cent :)

We actually have an internal bug tracker we use, we just put the bugs into it from the forums.

I do agree something like bugzilla might be better.

I hate bugzilla. hate hate hate it.  Convoluted and a pain to use.

We do have a bug tracker, as Volt said.

hehe - i agree bugzilla can be convoluted at times...

I guess my point is to have a bug-tracker capability built right into the site pages - that can connect straight into any back-end tracker you might want to use.

That way, you guys get a more direct access to tracking things without having to retype them twice, and users would have a better GUI for use and status on their requests etc

I remember using a tiny little 'bugtracker' (it was actually called "bugtracker") a couple years ago that was fairly simple to setup and connect to a web front end.. it was SQLServer based thou, so thats not an option for your shiny new Linux environment... (maybe its been ported to MySql, dunno) but as i said, the back-end is unimportant...

Then again, as i said, this is definitely low on the list of 'maybe' things to do.. just throwing my usual crazy ideas out there..

Bugtracker is a .NET app with a SQL Server backend.  It would be easy to port it over.

I actually like Bugtracker, it's very simple and to the point.
