Ok, I couldn't download it and install it, cause it wouldn't give me the choice of running it as adminstrator, but when i loaded up the version I had and ran it, everything seemed to go fine!

Thanks,

Thanks for all your hard work.  I know I'm going to spend hours playing with the new verson, since I don't care about color customization!

Fiery Transfer!

Edit:  I just took a closer look, it says version 1.4 with database 16, so I obviously did something wrong.

Fiery Transfer

Reedit:  Weird, after I ran it as admin.  then dl'd and installed, it worked fine.  It says v1.6

A minor note in the grand scheme of things:  In 1.4, Options => Check for Updates Now tells me that no updates are available.

Easy workaround is obviously to just go download the new installer and run it manually, but thought I'd mention that.

Told steiner about that.  Problem is that 1.4 points to Mids' old site, and he's currently incommunicado.  He'll need to either update that himself or point it to our site.

There is no way to change the update address in the old 1.4 Mids'.  I tried that this morning and it was a no-go.  However, the new version that we just released DOES have the new update link.  This will allow future updates to be automatic like it used to be in the good 'ole days.

Wooot!  Gratz...
Now, before I dive: Question: Can I parallel install the 'new' Mids and still keep the old Mids?

Not that I doubt the excellent Development and Testing etc that you guys have surely done :D .. lets say that id like to keep both versions for a while if possible.. kinda like Vista and XP.. sometimes you do want to go back to the well known oldies ;)

Just an FYI, I was having the same problem mentioned above, every time I tried to install it it would show error writing to, and then list most if not every file involved (one at a time, if you hit Ignore on each of them). This happened even running the installer as an administrator (Right-click>Run as administrator)

Only way I found to do it was uninstall the old Mids, Delete the Mids folder out of Program Files, and then try again, after doing so, no problems at all.

I dunno if there is a better way to go about it, but whatever the easiest way to do it is, you might want to put a note about it on the CoH Planner page where you download Mids, just a quick little blurb like "If you have the old version of Mids you must..."

Thanks for the update!

I'm a big fan of this site in general and I just want to say thank you, thank you so much for picking up Mids' again. This is a huge QoL increase to my overall CoX experience. I also wanted to note I had to do the same thing as Incarnadine to install though.

Thanks to all of you for this! I'm so happy! :D

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I don't understand any of it obviously, but it only happens when I try to load a build I made through St0n3y's previous I16 release (http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,2576.0.html).  Maybe if I try to create a build in the official updated Designer, it will be different.  I will try that later, though, 'cause I need to get to work here in a few minutes.

EDIT: Also, after toying with it some more (didn't leave for work...) I realize that I cannot create new builds with I16 powersets.

Spar, when you run Mids, do you "Run as Administrator"?

If you are on a Vista system, try that. If not, I'm out of ideas. I'm not one of the techies.

Just tried that, got the same thing as before.

EDIT: Should we divert this into a new thread for bugs or problems in the new Mids update?

You're honestly the only person it's doing this for... or others haven't spoken up.

I'd try a complete uninstall of all Mids applications, and install the newest one again... if it still persists, I'll use my little GoToAssist Express app to view exactly what is going on and see if we can fix it ( if you're willing, it's very secure ).

I would have no problem with that.  I'll try your first suggestion there and see what happens.  I'll probably load all of my Mids stuff onto my flash drive for backups and then try.  I'll let you know what happens.

EDIT: Still got the error message.  Even tried using "Run as Administrator."

Yep.  the UAC was preventing it from loading the database, like you said.  After that, the problem was using builds from St0n3y's designer which it wouldn't load.  All problems fixed now.

Kewl, So; our problem and Solution!

Problem:
When installing the new Mids, make sure to check your versions!

Located on the Title Bar. It should read 1.6 or higher from this point forward. And the database issue should reflect the current live issue on the game client.

Solution:
The best solution for this is to right-click the Installation exe and set it to "Run As Administrator" so the installer edit and re-writes all the files properly.

If you know what you're doing, turning off your UAC will also prevent this from happening, however I would only recommended this if you know what the repercussions of turning this off are.

Now this would be for all of us who do NOT have the Veteran travel power at lvl 6.
Mids is now to default that you can have a super-speed or the power Fly at lvl 6, and well... I don't have that (and I do not think I'm all alone).
Could the default still be lvl 14? Or is there a button i've missed that fixes this option?

A problem I had on my Vista system is that after the install, Mids still seem to be keeping the old database.  I had 1.4 installed and made modifications to the database myself at some point.  So I dug around and found that Vista kept the modded database in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Mids Hero Designer\.  After removing those files, everything worked perfectly.  Just thought I would post this in case anything similar is happening for anyone else.

Yeah, I agree. I didn't see a toggle for it, but would love to see the default be level 14 as the requirement, and to toggle ON the 60-month reward. I'd fathom most players aren't at that level yet with their vet rewards, so it would make sense to cater to the majority on this one.

Otherwise, this is a great update, and I personally can't think Stoney, Steiner, and Energy Aura enough for their efforts in getting this going for Issue 16!

Quite helpful, I was victim of the same thing when I "upgraded" to Vista (kept the UAC on) and re-installed it. The app will look there, but it looks for the \Data\ folder first.

St0n3y just made it so tiers 1,2,3 can be chosen at level 6, however tier 4 still requires lvl 14 and 2 other pool powers until we can add such a button, which I am working on getting to function as we speak.

Mid's has been running fine for me for a long time on a Vista machine, and I've had no problem having it auto-update before.  However, it won't install new version now.  :(  It tells me there is new version available, and after telling it to get it, the new version downloads.  Then almost immediately, a "user-defined breakpoint" is hit, with the following exception:

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.
The clock in task bar shows the correct time and date.  However, right before the first time I tried to update, my system did a hard crash.  However, everything else seems to be running fine.

Mids won't update properly from 1.4x to 1.6x - you need to uninstall your current Mids (make sure to backup your saved builds!!), then reinstall with the new download from www.cohplanner.com

Ok, maybe i was running 1.4x.  That would explain it.

But ...

Why did it never update itself from 1.4x to 1.5x?  Every time it started up it said that it was checking for updates, and never found any until 1.6x.

Just an update ...

I did as Aggelakis suggested, and now I have v1.6 installed and running.  Thanks. :)

Oh, I had indeed been running 1.4, but I still don't know why it never updated itself to 1.5.

There was no 1.5.

My failure release a few weeks back could be titled as such.. or just imagine that the first two digits of a version are the issue it works for, lol.

1.6 = i16, 01, first build of this version, etc etc.

I am having problems with version 1.6, specifically with regards to the Electric Armor defense set.

Mids' recognizes that it is there, and I can build a toon using it. However, when I click 'View Totals' it doesn't show any of the numbers for any of the powers within the set that are toggles. It picks up the totals from Grounded so it would seem that it is recognizing the powers, but not taking the numbers from the toggle powers.

I checked in some of the other defensive sets and noticed that within the database that under the 'Basic' tab that they were set to 'Toggle defaults to On' and so I tried changing that setting, but it did not appear to affect anything.

This is a very frustrating situation. Everything else I've checked in this version seems to work just fine. Is there a fix for this or something within that particular set that I need to do in order to make the 'View Totals' work correctly for the Electric set? It is making it difficult for me to build my toon and guage which IO sets are doing what I want to accomplish without it showing me my totals from my main defensive toggles.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the new version 3 different times, scanned all my directories to make sure I've removed everything I can find that looked like it was related to Mids' Hero Designer, but the same problem persists.

Any help to get this resolved will be greatly appreciated.

In the area where your selected powers show up, there is a hollow circle next to any powers that have effects there.  To make them show up, you need to click that circle so that it turns green.  Screenshots in a few to clarify

SaintNicster,

Thank you very much for the response. That took care of the problem.

As a side note, is there any way to make them stay selected for the Electric Armor set? I've never had to do that for any of the other defensive sets. After having done that I closed the program and called up the particular toon I'd been working on and they were no longer selected. I can select them each time I suppose, but it seems odd that I only have to do that for the Electric armor set.

Thanks again for the prompt and helpful response. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me with my problem!

Apparently the toggle default wasn't set for Elec. You can change it manually in the Database Editor. Maybe St0n3y will change it for the next build.

 ??? ???  ok I uninstalled Mids from my comp (vista 32b) and attempted to install the new version.  I get as far as...

"C:\programfiles\.... \hero designer.exe and everything after that fails.

I have removed everything from the previous version of mids that I can find.. I am at a loss. I love the program, but this is getting annoying.

What is the error you're getting? This sounds like a permissions error on Vista, trying to install to Program Files. Make sure you're running the installer as an administrator.
