How could we forget this classic? (grin) Took me a while to find the recording I think I remember from my misspent youth... which technically is still in progress according to most people, but who's counting.

That was unofficially our second fight song in college.  And we had sooooo many more verses for it (many of which we were banned from singing in public. The "clean" ones can be found here)

Honestly, a lot of these songs are great action-y type songs, but nothing captures the spirit of CoH to me more than the first thing you hear when you create a character for the first time: The Atlas Park theme.

I second this one.

I've had Coldplay's Viva la Vida running through my head the last hour whilst playing CoH and a loose form of parody lyrics began forming. I'd love to make it (or some revised form of it) a youtube video, but I dont have the time and I can't sing very well. I'll post it here in case anyone else can do something with it or get ideas from it.

I used to save the world
Heroes united when I gave the word
Now every night I just walk the streets
Wondering how I'd met defeat
Villains were terrified
When they saw my cape in the sky
Civilians would cheer my way
For a Hero I was, that's what they'd say
Wish I could have saved it all
But my world began to fall
Away from everything that I knew
My Incarnates were gone, I couldn't renew

I'd fly off into the endless skyline
Theme songs that I'd hear in the daytime
Turn 'round and face down my ArchVillains
'Rachnos, Hellions, Crey Corporations
And hope one day we can save this place
From the MMOKiller
Always built for solo-play
And that was when I saved the day

T'was NCSoft and their C-E-O
Told us we're done, we had to go
Forums posting at the speed of light
The worst villain we've had yet to fight
As criminals roamed with pride
Families crying at my side
Our world itself coming to an end
Oh, why was it we couldn't defend?

I'd fly off into the endless skyline
Theme songs that I'd play in my downtime
Turn 'round and face down my ArchVillains
Nemesis, Rikti, and Cimerorans (insert new enemy groups 2nd time)
If this battle should leave me slain
I know Hero 1 will call my name
They can't take it all away
And that was when I saved the day
x2

Only wish I'd thought of this sooner. Just work with me, I've never done this before. ^_^

There is one other.. a bit more behind the idea of us, the nameless faceless peons rising up and fighting for control..

Van Canto- Last Night of the Kings.

... what? I'm a nerd.

Oh and I completely forgot to thank you for introducing me to Van Canto! I didn't like metal at all before and now I was even able to get my dad hooked on their music. 8)

I've been listening to this quite a bit since the "Notice of we don't care about the US/West market anymore..."
Our Lady Peace - Superman's Dead (US Version w/o Clowns)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=155mR0SAISI

There's another version with Clowns & Carnies that's sort of appropriate in a kinda creepy way too.
And, I should note - part of why it made my playlist was that I kept hearing that one line as:
"The World's a Subway away..." = at least in Praetoria I guess, or a Monorail in Primal Earth/Paragon, that and the obvious  "Superman is Dead"... and so in turn = all of the other Heroes -probably are/or would likely be- dead as well.  :(

Me I been hearing...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-ZMJZmKhvk&feature=related  What gets me is one line "From the ashes we shall rise!"

Hell the whole album could be our Theme.
One way or another... Heroes will fly again!

I'm not really sure if this should be posted as a "theme song". However, I do think it applies to everyone here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Xu0FriE4oI

I was watching a Jackie Chan movie (the Medalion) and this was part of the sound track.

I thought it was appropriate. :)

This is similar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tbJq8ZLJ90
It's oddly close to things that were in the game. :p

On the other hand, there is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5QIW8VpXss (the lyrics translation in the video is a bit odd... here's the one I'm used to: http://gendou.com/amusic/lyrics.php?id=6759&show=2 )
We were heroes. We were villains. At the end of the world we all fought as one. It's what we did that defines us.
The end occurred pretty much as we predicted: all servers redlining until midnight... and then no servers to go around.

Somewhere beyond time and space, if you look hard you might find a flash of silver trailing crimson: a lone lost Spartan on his way home.

Not normally my type of music, but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDcmf_GhlZY seemed to have some really appropriate lyrics around CoH and TPP.

I have theme songs for all my toons, and I think this one would be ideal

3 Doors Down - Citizen/Soldier
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgV6VUinDEA

Beyond the boundaries of your city's lights,
Stand the heroes waiting for your cries.
So many times you did not bring this on yourself,
When that moment finally comes,
I'll be there to help.

On that day when you need your brothers and sisters to care,
I'll be right here.
Citizen soldiers holding the light for the ones that we guide from the dark of despair.
Standing on guard for the ones that we sheltered,
We'll always be ready because we will always be there.

When there are people crying in the streets,
When they're starving for a meal to eat,
When they simply need a place to make their beds,
Right here underneath my wing,
You can rest your head.

On that day when you need your brothers and sisters to care,
I'll be right here!
Citizen soldiers holding the light for the ones that we guide from the dark of despair.
Standing on guard for the ones that we sheltered,
We'll always be ready because we will always be there...

There... there... there...

Hope and pray that you'll never need me,
But rest assured I will not let you down.
I'll walk beside you but you may not see me,
The strongest among you may not wear a crown.

On that day when you need your brothers and sisters to care,
I'll be right here!
On that day when you don't have the strength for the burden you bear,
I'll be right here!
Citizen soldiers holding the light for the ones that we guide from the dark of despair.
(Citizen soldiers)
Standing on guard for the ones that we sheltered,
We'll always be ready because we will always be there.

I listened to so many here.  This I think is it!

Meh. Too much rock and no real voice punch. Had the chills but not long enough. Lyrics are godlike though (that's what gave me the chills)

Someone posted a link to the Dr. Who song, "The Majestic Tale (of a Madman in a Box)" up above.

I am now listening to it on repeat while I grade English papers.

Fitting.

If we were going by title only, I'd suggest "The Day The Whole World Went Away" by Nine Inch Nails. But the lyrics of it don't really fit.

I've been listening to:

Indestructible by Disturbed
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWxBrI0g1kE

It seems like a good rallying song to show, that whatever gets thrown our way we will keep fighting until we get our City of Heroes back.

I Am The Doctor - Murray Gold: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5D-QPDGhCtM

Everytime I listen to it, my resolve strengthens. The imagery this song instills in me is a strong one. I picture the call going out, and our characters--never truly gone--answer. Men and women who have not been in uniform for far too long step forward into a central plaza we can't quite make out, heads held high and ready to defend their City once again. At 2:15, we slowly rise and see...the statue of Atlas, with the sun coming over it and casting light across Atlas Park, banishing the darkness and shadows. It's what we're all fighting for, and it always gets me.

Our fight is not over, and to that end, I also propose the following.

Uprising - Muse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfblGznVLJo

They will not force us. They will stop degrading us. They will not control us. We will be victorious!

That line from the refrain says it all.

And finally, because at this point we definitely color outside the lines and march to the beat of a different drum...

The Crazy Ones - Stellar Revival: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOediKfzoec

Because we are the crazy ones, the mavericks, the dreamers, the forgotten sons. Just like my sig says. And we won't be silenced or marginalized.
We are the crazy ones, the mavericks, the dreamers, the forgotten sons. We color outside the lines for fun. We are the crazy ones! - "The Crazy Ones," Stellar Revival

"We put ourselves in "the attitude of heroes"--and we all became a little more heroic." - VV
