Sharing of CoH vids, demo's etc
« on: November 30, 2012, 10:30:16 PM »
Hi there. Thought i would start this thread as a place where people can organise sharing some of the fraps videos and demorecords and screenies that we have been collecting.

Some of us have already been doing this using utorrent and sending each other the URL's but now the game is closing, this will be a way to continue.

Seems like a good way of amassing the things that many have not been able to get their hands on, even if it does not actually involve their chars. So if you have something you would like to share - post here with the URL (or whatever else) and it can be spread around.

P.S.: Sorry for being rather formal with you all here, I'm afraid writing this just after the shutdown put me in a REALLY weird mood - plz be sure that I don't expect any formality in response and that I'm already better (but much more tired and likely less coherent), just ask anyone who knows me ingame ;) ... eh, I might just edit it later.

Hey folks,

just so you know, I have prepared this post offline, about 15 mins after shutdown, so that it still makes sense when the forum is back up and I finally get hit with the crash from all that caffeine, sugar and the trials and this forum recovers from the insane load spike of a large part of the CoX community trying to access it at once. In hindsight, I can only facepalm that i have not fully expected this.

I just checked, and added up all the folders, and ended up with 795 gigs of raw avi as well as 2.15 gigs of demorecords. The raw avis translate to roughly 23 hours of video, I am unable to estimate how much material is in those demorecords.

Since these include some failed records, accidental records and assorted tests and junk, especially on the raw video, there may be as much as 10 to 20 percent garbage in those numbers (as a mildly sleep deprived estimate). They are also very minimalistically named, the videos are even only named with a timestamp.

I fully intent to properly encode these soon, but achieving a decent quality and compression is going to take me a long time as my CPU is a few years old. And even after that, my upstream is rather limited (I have my connection for truly excellent pings, uptime and support, not bandwidth). Those few encodes I have done so far have reduced the size by a factor of 30 while still retaining a quality I consider VERY good, but those encodes are around 15 times slower than real time.

Encoding with rather low quality, for example to host a preview on youtube, is vastly faster, and results in much smaller files at times, so if there is sufficient interest, I will start doing these first while I start looking at what it even is that I have.

Lastly, those few things I have now:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsItpc1WRxo
A Rikti Dropship kill that I really need to re-record from the demo since I missed part of it breaking down; but at least the final explosion is nicely centered.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0f6IiWYUGIk   and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoZfkULboPs
This is a rather nice mom we recently did on Union. Very few instructions since we were mostly regulars, but I think I have at the very least one with the complete set somewhere in my piles ... but that is for later. I had to split it since my youtube acc is rather new.

As a matter of note, the files I uploaded to youtube look MUCH better than what you get if you watch it there, even on 720p, which is the highest it lets me choose. I'll make a direct screenshot comparison later, but if you watch the youtube version, the chat is somewhat fuzzy, while the original file looks nearly as good as ingame, and is much more easily readable.

And with all that said for now, I think it's time for a tiny break since I'm starting to feel the crash incoming, I'll be active again Sunday at the latest ;).

I type this message as a way to convey the feelings I've had tonight. They are hard to explain, but I'd be willing to place my bets between excitement and a final drop of sadness. There were so many of us running missions, TFs, and everything inbetween, just for those nostalgic feels. I took several moments to pause and just absorb the energy that the community shared with one another on the final few hours. This night was even more special to me, because I capped off my second level 50 during the same TF that I got my first 50 from. All of those nostalgic memories are definitely coming to the surface now. I took several screenshots up until the final shutdown. There we so many of us there. It couldn't have gone out by any other way for the Freedom Server.

I think now, more than ever, is the time we can prove to everyone that our community is strong. Hopefully strong enough to win back the game that brought us together.

Here are some of the final screenshots I got, they include everyone that was at City Hall on the Freedom Server in AP33 and Hit Streak; who was recording the last official livestream from Paragon Studios. (Sorry if they're too big.)

(This is where Hit Streak nuked himself. I seriously suspect a Nemesis plot had something to do with this.)

Finally, here's a whole album of even more screenshots I captured, and these were just ones I picked out of my collection. I may edit in more later.

I have tried searching for a video of the katana taunt Call of the Wild, with no luck.  I wanted to know if they had changed it recently. I remember the blade pointing and then twisting or swirling in the holders' hand. I saw it before the servers went down but it was different with no twisting. I just was wondering if anyone has a video of it or if it was changed. Thanks

Here are the final moments of CoH that I had recorded on my side.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPmfQDCoNOI&feature=youtu.be

I am in the process of encoding ~40 minutes of the Tiwtch.tv stream that Hitstreak hosted, as well as a short run through of some of Paragon City that I recorded the other night. I'll be sure to post the YouTube links here when the final moments vid I'm currently uploading is done.

In the mean time, here are some the screen shots I managed to capture from CoH. Most of them are 3840x2160 and no hud. Great source material for wallpapers.
http://www.2shared.com/file/UQHZvC0e/CoH_Screen_Shots.html

Here are some sample pics included in the .zip that I resized for forum use with some personal color adjustments.

I would have a lot more, but the original install I had of CoH that captured most of my memories ended up getting vaporized when my HDD died. Really makes me sad to think about it :(

Blastor reporting in...

Got rough videos of zones both villain & hero sides, as well as some screenshots of the last gathering in Atlas Park. But it'll take some time for me to edit them. I'll also go through my screenshots taken throughout 8 years of playing and select/post some of them here.

I also wanna include my webpage www.theintrepids.co.uk, where my SGs database (last updated in 2007) and forum are stored. Maybe because I went there right after the incident of 8AM today, I got so emotional seeing the pictures of some old friends who left the game 6-7 years ago, maybe some of them you may even know. But the webdesign is kinda simple, I did it by reading webdesign for dummies :)...

Anyway, it's very good to see here some familiar names from Union.

My email is blastor.coh@gmail.com and I'll probably play Startrek Online for a while, my toons are blast@blastor and nlador@blastor

Muggins here was the idiot Dark/Stone tanker in that MoM (Albedo Null)

It's peculiar as hell watching yourself running around like a mad thing from the viewpoint of someone else, even if I know exectly why I was doing what I was doing when I was doing it.

There's also a strange effect in that it looks frantic as hell when watching as a video, but felt sedate and controlled while I was playing.  Very odd.

Thanks for posting that, Keiphy.

Highly annoyed to find on checking my Demofiles this morning.

Yesterday was the only time I've ever run the Eden Trial (Thanks Sailboat!) So, I was determined to Demorecord all of it. Breaking it into parts, as scenes changed etc.

I was using the renamer to keep me covered on saving it's parts, as I've done the last several weeks whenever I remember to run it an demorecord. My various other files saved just fine, but for the Eden Trial we ran?

I have only the very first part of hunting DE in Eden, and then I have the final battle against the Crystal Titan.

I checked as we were going and my parts seemed to be saving.

Especially, right when we went into the actual BEAUTIFUL CAVES, right after the outdoor section. The first save in mission. It was there! I also was saving after every major drop down the hole, or breakdown the wall section.

:-\ I don't know what happened, maybe there was a space or something that stopped it, but if Evangeline_Blue or Sailboat or any of the others were recording PLEASE SEND ME THE FILES... very annoyed right now.

I will try to organize my demofiles into some kind of order, in case talented people can make something from them.

In the interim, here is the last screenshot for Glass Goblin on Triumph. It looks as though Bipolar Man got in the ironic last word. (Forgive the sloppy UI housekeeping.)

Here is some of my final screen shots. I am gonna put them all into a collection and save them.

I think that is one thing we should do is pick our best screenshots and make one large collection lol.

ATLUS PARK 6 is where I was during the end!

FINAL MOMENTS - The guy left to the square doing the pop dance is me

Cool group photo explosion thingy....I do not think I made it into the group photo which is a shame...This is Atlus
Park 6

I do not remember his name but he was a Radiation/ Electricity Defender whom helped me get my final level so I could get Blaze from my secondary power set.

HIS Name was Rambler! He Picked up giant rocks and threw them and had a hammer! He came before the other guy for one mission and helped out a lot!

Her name is Molly! She was my beloved Flytrap!

One of my IRL Friends characters

Cool party we had going earlier on in the day before it ended.

Oroboros

I forget where this is I think its in croatoa but I think its a nice landscape picture.

Molly again in my superbase!

I have some stuff to share. You might know me as @Septipheran in game and TwoHeadedBoy on the COH forums.

Last ITF Ever (video)
Quote
This was on Protector server. We had about 30 minutes to complete this whole task force. After trying for a few minutes to fill the last spots on the team,we realized we didn't have time so we ran with six.

This video picks up just before the "10 Minutes to Shutdown" announcement. We had just entered the second to last mission and we went straight to the computer. It seemed we had no chance of finishing the rest of the ITF.

After we completed the second to last mission, one of my team mates suggested that we take a group shot and call it a night. I said the game wasn't over yet, and we went into the final mission. If you pay attention to the chat, I think it'll help you understand how we were all feeling.

People were ready to give up even before we killed Romulus the first time. Another person was ready to give up before we killed all the traitors. I said the TF isn't over yet, and one of my teammates responded saying, "time is."

Well, we pulled through anyways. We somehow finished the very last ITF with seconds to spare. I asked everyone to exit after completion so we could all be grouped instantly outside the door for a screen shot. Well, I clicked exit map, and the loading screen froze for the very last time.

The last thing these heroes of Paragon City ever did was successfully complete their goal, against all odds.

RIP COH. You will be missed.

I also have some screens from the final day. This is Freedom server's Atlas Park 1 during the early afternoon.

Myself and my pal Doomrider.

From the final Mothership Raid on Protector.

After fighting through an AE Arc on 54x8 with about a million AV's at once in the last mission... Doomrider, AIB, myself and Dechs Kaison.

Because it made me smile.

Our victorious Numina team- With Layla Rei, Stone Daemon, Doomrider and Fizzbin. Not sure on the names of the other two. I'm up front. AIB was on this team but he must have moved out of the screen.

Our Final STF.

The last screen shot I ever got- Same team from the video.

And finally my main, Septipheran, watching over Paragon City.

Hello. I wasn't sure whether or not to make my big post here a separate thread after seeing this one, but I looked at a few posts here already, and figured what the hell.

The more the merrier right?  ;D

You'll find here in my post tons of screenshots I took for Cosmic Corsair, Elemental Order, and a few for Tech Knight.

Along with random other assorted things, such as demo records of the sets shown, costume files of the sets, and screens of stuff like cybertech thrown in because why not.

You will need a full Beta client for the demos though, sorry. I took them there.

Enjoy.  :)

With the game shutting down I finally got off my duff and made a video of Nova.  My only regret is I hadn't been recording Nova for years so I could have minutes and minutes of it for the thing including some from back before target caps.  I really wish I had a clip from me nuking an entire map at once or hundreds upon hundreds (seemingly) of Rikti monkeys back when the zookeeper badge was terrifying.

Finally added the RHW to youtube:

Playlist: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBQUqXmsW-rq9Iz6tFZjXKflU55nUZWg6
Part 1 (before Tyrant): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dt7CxDdB4qE
Part 2 (Tyrant fight only): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhAMbDy8nAs

Also added the MoM i had already uploaded and linked above to a playlist for convenience:
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBQUqXmsW-rqYSvhiRaShjBFyPnX2Nfaq

I think I'll go for the MoUG next, even if it will take a lot of time since it's huge; I think there are a few people who never did one.

If there is any Incarnate Trial one of you want first, send me a PM and I'll go for that next.

Edit: I just noticed this topic has been moved to another subforum, and i think it is new? I approve ;)

Edit2: And thanks a lot for all the other videos and screenies ;)

I have some stuff to share. You might know me as @Septipheran in game and TwoHeadedBoy on the COH forums.

Last ITF Ever (video)

Even knowing how it was going to end, I couldn't help but shout "Yes!' and give a fist pump when you completed the last mission.

Amazing stuff.  Thank you so much for sharing it with us.

Hi, thanks so much. I'm genuinely surprised and stoked at all the attention the video has been getting. It really was a great way to go out and I'm glad so many other people are getting to share in the experience.

Well, like everyone else, I have a ton of screenshots, and I went into overdrive in the last week of the game.  Most of the images were really just for me, or my wife and sons, and would really only interest us. We all played the game, and all were online on the 30th until the end (or some of us were, until 'the mom' declared, "No, it really is too late and it IS bedtime!  You can watch the video tomorrow!"  We're east coasters, so no 3am shutdowns for the 9 year old :P ).   I also made some more with the intent of capturing something that I loved about the game: mood pieces; amusing things; the 'classic wallpaper' shots, etc.  Here are a few of them that I think are shareworthy

They're all 1920*1028 'cause that's my screen resolution.

This is my youngest sons' current main Protege Justice rezzing (again) in AE. I like the framing effect of the AE medbay.

I wanted to make some pix showing fights or action, but I wanted to avoid the typical over-the-shoulder/three-quarters-overhead-view, and I had a surprisingly hard time coordinating alts and mobs and poses and camera.  I could demorecord, and I will eventually, but I wanted to make "live" shots that had some dynamism, and that were well framed.  I think these next two did this:

Agent Double-O Soul putting down a little justice.

Dragons Daughter bringing it on.

These next three are just fun. When I first started the game the game world just seemed so lively.  I would sometimes just stop and look at stuff on walls and billboards.  I never got out of that habit, in fact.

Here's a 'classic wallpaper' shot in a favorite spot for them - Blyde Square

Finally, I have a 'mood' pic with my redside co-main La Demoiselle (who's waaay in the background alongside
Television).  I was trying to imply the isolation and loneliness of the character and the trust-no-one world in Grandville by using the oldest trick in the book - distance.  Obvious perspective lines are obvious, but they do point directly at the 'characters' there.  Oh, did anyone else know that among the static showing on Television there is an occasional flash of a crab spider image?  I took alot of screenshots to capture it. Just not this one.

Thanks Devs.  This game had soul.

Hi there got a bunch of screenies - ones taken by me and a fair few i have copied from elsewhere, 430 in file. Again gonna distribute by utorrent :

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:045558E0C972432BCC6D507FA83CDF048B39A202&dn=Part%201&tr=udp%3a%2f%2ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3a80%2fannounce

but if this doesn't work for people and you have a better way that isn't a huge drag - please let me know. If some do go for the torrent option, when i see you DLing, i will carry on seeding until you are done.

What is it you are trying to do? Just playback the demo? Swap out characters? Turn them into video? I'm sure someone will be happy to help.

You seem to be confused. Is that an already recorded video capture OR is it a demo recorded in the game? It can't be both at the same time.
We were heroes. We were villains. At the end of the world we all fought as one. It's what we did that defines us.
The end occurred pretty much as we predicted: all servers redlining until midnight... and then no servers to go around.

Somewhere beyond time and space, if you look hard you might find a flash of silver trailing crimson: a lone lost Spartan on his way home.

Okay, first things first.

1 - if you demorecorded stuff in-game, that is not automatically made into a video file. To do that, you will have to play back the demofiles and capture them somehow (whether by using FRAPS, Camstudio, or other screen capture application), or by converting the demofiles to JPGs and compiling them in VirtualDub.

2 - once you have actually converted your demofile into a video file of some time or another, then you have a couple of options. You can upload them as-is directly to YouTube (no music, no nothing), or you can use a video program like Windows Movie Maker, Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere, what have you, to add a music track and then save your video with a soundtrack.

3 - that's when you upload it to YouTube for others to see.

*****

Now, you mentioned wanting to add people to your demofile. There a couple of tutorials on the Paragon Wiki page for Demo_Recording - I'd advise checking them out. That will let you put people into your video that were not there at the time you actually filmed it in-game, *IF* you recorded as a demofile. (If you used FRAPS while you were in the Matrix room, then what you filmed is what you've got.)

Demorecords that I have are available on Google Docs.  Two of the files are from Megajoule (CoH Zones) and Arachnion (Demo Records.rar) respectively, who have both offered their recordings up in other places on the forums.  My zipped archive includes Triumph's final Hamidon raid, which was broken upon saving.  I removed some data in the beginning of the file and it's playable as a fixed version, although some obvious problems are visible (no nucleus, attacks and pathing go right through the zone floor on some toons and organelles.)

I only captured demos from the last day of play, which have some "Who Will Die" maps, the Matrix Room, and the Hive.  I wish I learned how easy it was to do earlier, my last three months would have been carried out VERY differently.

Well, anyway... enjoy! https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B_m0lcQNX49AdTBDWjlZcWRLcTg/edit

Heh.

The demo records file you have of mine, was actually just of those costume sets I have in that big post in this thread.

I actually have 527 MB of demos, 144 files in that folder. They are not mine, they are from a pack someone put up on the old official forums I believe, that I got before it went down.

Anyway, I might compress it and upload it sometime.

Can't wait to see it, and thanks in advance if you do. :D  Hopefully someone gets a central repository going for these files (if not TitanNet, who said it's a priority but not the top one at the moment) and I'll offer up mine to that instead.

If not, Google's got the space.  That works for me.

I finally had time to finish my Coh Tribute video, which you can find here now: http://youtu.be/KnLUE5hPuh4
I am still very new to the whole video recording/editing thing, so I am happy for any comments and suggestions  :)

Also, to make this I recorded a lot of small fraps videos from the game (lots more then you can see in the video).
Sadly, since i didnt had a registered version of fraps, the all have the fraps watermark on them and are all only a few seconds to 30 seconds in length. And to make this even worse on some videos you can hear tv in the background (I didnt cared at that time, since I only wanted to play some music over them anyway). But if someone might be interested in this (maybe to find a particular scene for their own tribute?) I would take the time to give them some more meaningful names and maybe pack them all together?

I like the way you assembled your memories of the game, using your own recordings. It's the whole game in 5 minutes time. Bravo!
the rapid sequence of screenshots was very nice too.

Thanks to CoH's demo recording capability and the Titan Network's Icon utility, I was able to record/recreate these 44 characters separately and then edit them together.

For my latest video, titled "Starbolt and Friends Versus the Fist of Fear", I modified a demo file that I had recorded in City of Heroes to swap in alternate characters. The demo shows the final battle from my Mission Architect story arc, "For the People" but now with different heroes.

In the original demo, my hero character, Protector led the Freedom Phalanx NPCs into battle. In the new edited version, Starbolt leads other members of the Krusaders supergroup.

The video was created by using the demorecording capability of CoH along with FRAPS and Windows Live Movie Maker software.

For those who never played a demo before, here's how simplified (in Windows XP and 7):
  • Find cityofheroes.exe, rightclick it and create a shortcut to it on your desktop.
  • Rightclick on the new shortcut and in the Target field, after the endquotes, type a space, then a dash, then the word demoplay
Code: [Select]
...cityofheroes.exe" -demoplay
  • Now just download any file that ends in .cohdemo like this one of me in the summer event arena SummerEvent_Flo_Andy_FINAL.cohdemo
  • Now drag the demo file and drop it onto that new shortcut.
  • Sit back and enjoy.
  • P = pause.
  • F2 = camera toggle. Hit F2, fly the camera around manually, hit F2 again and it will zip back to auto. Rinse. Repeat.
  • Escape = exit.
  • FYI - There's no rewind or fast forward in playbacks.
  • Playbacks loop endlessly like a screensaver. You have to exit the current one to playback another one.
  • If you hit Escape and the playback pauses but there's no "are you sure you wanna quit" box, the box is there you're just not seeing it because of your windows settings. Just Hit Enter now and you will still exit demo mode.

More of my demos:

RiktiInvasionRedside_FINAL.zip 1 MB (1,106,105 bytes) Zipped
I modded the camera to circle the event slowly

THEEND01FINAL.cohdemo 5 MB (5,502,560 bytes)
I spent the final few minutes before sunset fighting Rikti in PI on Liberty. Chat is modded to actually display All channels that were recorded but not displaying during playback. Added a villain who joyfully counts down the last few seconds as his plot comes to fruition.
