Scaling entities--is that thing?
« on: December 08, 2012, 02:15:10 PM »
I seem to remember there being a command to increase or decrease the size of players and NPCs, but I can't find any trace of it in any demo editing guides now. Anyone know what the scale command might be? Or was that the Boone's Farm talking again?

I know how to do it for player characters, but I don't know about NPCs. It's how I made 'Atlas' for my 5th anniversary vid.

The bold/italicized value is the one that, the larger you make it, scales up the size of the character (if you make it smaller, same thing in reverse). If you compare that value to all of your characters' demo files, you'll see they tend to fall in a much more limited range.

Thank you, Michelle, for the instruction on how to scale entities. I used your method to scale my character, Hornet. His roleplaying gimmick is, he's supposed to be able to shrink to tiny size (like the Atom or Ant-Man) and fly around (like the Wasp).

In CoH's character creator, I made Hornet as small as possible, which was 4 foot tall. I did not buy the Superscience booster pack, which enabled players to access a Cosmetic Surgeon and change the size of a character, so Hornet was stuck at 4 foot tall.

Now, thanks to your tip, he can shrink to tiny size and grow to full-size as shown in this image.

On the left, Hornet (defined as the player character in this demo file) is hovering at 4 foot tall, which is a scaling factor of -33.000000.

To Hornet's left is a full-size NPC named Starbolt (dressed in black and white) for size comparison. I had defined his height in the CoH character creator by using the height sliding scale, and the demo file shows his scaling factor is -1.370000.

Hovering above Starbolt's left shoulder is an NPC version of tiny-size Hornet scaled to -90.000000.

And standing on the right is full-size Hornet (another NPC), scaled at -1.200000. So, he's a bit shorter than Starbolt (but, he's wearing a big helmet, which makes him look taller). I also swapped Hornet's beating insect wings for a cape that looks like hanging insect wings. The idea is, switch to the cape when Hornet isn't flying.

I had defined two costumes for Hornet in CoH, one with insect wings and the other with the cape; but, I was never able to make him full size nor shrink to tiny size. Now, in a demo file, I can, thanks to Samuraiko--hooray!
