My first ever "I'm out" thread...
« on: August 22, 2013, 09:00:18 PM »
Hi guys, just wanted to post this here too.

http://co-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=236571

Since then I've been on The Secret World, and, while I desperately miss tights and capes, it is a game that has heart like CoH, and you can still feel like a Superhero in a Buffy the Vampire Slayer kind of way.  Really nice community.  And my son and wife are finally engaged in a game with me again.

No travel powers yet, though.  They say vehicles may be coming!

Hey, I just realized I haven't looked for a "CoH Channel" on TSW yet.  Bet they have one--anyone know?

If Cryptic North comes through, I might pick up my cape and tights again, but, otherwise, I just can't take Jack's signature arrogant neglect.

There are a few  CoH chat channels actually, but the only one in frequent use is CoH-Refugees.

I like The Secret World quite a bit, but something about it is kind of claustrophobic. It's not a game I want to play every single day. But I do enjoy it when I log in.

It's posts like this, and there's a lot of positive TSW posts out there, that make me want to try The Secret World.

Grats for finding what makes you happy! That's what gaming's all about. You Win.

For extra points, I try to go for having at least one backup/go-to. Gives me somewhere to go to during burnout or if, say, my game shuts down.

Your son and wife playing w/ are some uber uber bonus points.

Good stuff.

trust me op you are not the 1st to walk away from champions, I left 2/3 months ago myself. champions had so much potential but cryptic/pwe just squandered it. for me short of a total remake im done with champions
One day the Phoenix will rise again.

Normally you'd be right, but all my guys are freeform :(.

Just to mention, we're all playing characters that are related to our mains in CoH :).  That makes it extra fun.  My wife is considering it the "pre -superhero" days of her main, and my son is playing his main's father.  Mine is an alternate version of my most supernatural main.  This is really making it fun.

I have to admit, TSW had become my "main" prior to the CoH shutdown. I loved CoH (and still do...), but it was my backup MMO after TSW went live.  I'm actually not much of a comic superhero fan, and it was never CoH's genre that appealed to me (and same goes for CO). It was, well...no need to preach to the choir: anyone posting here knows why CoH was a great game.  :)

At this point I'm thinking I want Funcom to make a Superhero MMO.  They are a great company with a story-forward style and they're not Chinese or Korean.

Judging by their latest MMO though, it'd be amazingly buggy and the gameplay would be boring as all hell outside of a few cool set pieces. And there'd be customisation that wouldn't matter because team content would demand one of a few specialised builds anyway.

That said, you know who I almost want to make a superhero MMO? Blizzard. Because taking what works and making it better is pretty much what they do, and I'm sure we can all agree that for the most part CoH worked better than either of the other superhero MMOs. At the same time though, I don't really want them to because there's just as much chance it'd end up as a generic WoW style game with superhero flavor.

You know, I was thinking that too.  Blizzard could knock it out of the park if they weren't too arrogant in trying to improve what already worked.

I have to admit I am missing my tights and travel power--but then I remember flying around aimlessly trying to think of something I'd actually enjoy doing.  Man, I never had that problem in CoH, the new content was fun, but even just visiting Mission Architect or running a 4/8 radio on my main was fun enough to happily kill time.

Champions could really use some random repeatable missions, yeah. They have the ones where random civilians just run up to you and give you missions, but there's only two or three distinct ones per level and some levels don't have any at all. They need a proper random mission thing like the radio or newspaper ones in CoH.

They also need the Foundry, but they've said in the past that none of CO's content was designed to work with that system and they don't have the manpower to go through and properly set it all up.

Personally I like to believe it actually is 'don't have', because PWE demands that most of Cryptic's effort be focused on STO and Neverwinter rather than on Champions. Which makes sense as those are both bigger games. It may not actually be true, but it helps me not get depressed about the current state of superhero MMOs in general.
