Damage Resistance
« on: November 08, 2013, 12:36:30 AM »
Ok, so. I'm looking to boost damage resistance on a ranged tank and one thing I'm considering is Telekinetic Shield with the advantage to keep a 16% DR boost going for 8 seconds after releasing Block.

What I don't know is what 16% means.

If I take a 30k Gravi hit, do I take 4800 pts less damage? Or does that 16% need to go through some more math before it subtracts damage?

Resistance in CO works on more basic cryptic math, in that the damage you take is divided by the % of resistance you have added to one.

So 16% resistance means 1+.16 = 1.16, the damage would be divided by 1.16 and the result would be the damage you take.

So 30k / 1.16 = 25862 damage taken still.

If you dodged the attack first, then avoidance kicks in like flat % reduction, each % avoided is the % not taken, so say you had 40% avoidance, and dodged that 30k hit before resistance...

30 * .6 = 18000, which, if divided by 1.16 would equal 15517 damage taken.
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

Anyone with Defiance wanna brag on their resistance? With invul the best I get is like 68% + like 158 of flat damage absorb. Which seems a lil lacking atm.

>>

It's 69% + 155 of absorb.

Block. There's no passive Resistance (or CC or KB resistance) that can match even the weakest Block.

This article is 2-1/2 years old but contains the basics.

I thought I was blocking that yellow gravi bubble of doom but it can be that I wasn't. Will have to give it another go.

Thanks for the read. Have that bookmarked now.

I've noticed that the Glacier tank on one of my Silver accounts will sometimes abort his Block and use Ice Cage even with my Block key (or button - I've tried both) held down. I've checked his settings and they're the same as my other characters.
